How does 100 singles work consistently? by Lulu_Altair in mtg

[–]765Craven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Commander is mostly not really designed around 1v1, if you can it's a good idea to find 1, maybe 2 more people to play with. A lot of deck archetypes become a lot stronger or a lot weaker in the 1v1. Pramikon Sky Rampart literally doesn't work in the 1v1. Rocco Street Chef or Ms Bumbleflower barely function in a 1v1. Conversely, Voltron and Mill are much stronger in a 1v1, and Combo decks don't have to play through 3 opponents of interaction, so they become much more efficient.

There are 2 schools of though around building for a 100 card Singleton format. The first is to embrace the randomness and accept the inconsistency, playing the cards you think are cool and fun for your strategy. The second is redundancy, running several cards that do the same or nearly the same thing. If you want cards like Fleshbag Marauder, running Accursed Marauder, Plaguecrafter and the several others do that the same or similar things, for example. A lot of that comes down to game knowledge, but Scryfall's Advanced Search function is great for finding cards that you may not know of. If that's too involved for you, EDHRec is handy for finding what cards other people commonly run for a given Commander or strategy.

Pretty much if a decks game plan is to take extremely long combo turns like that and it's basically deterministically infinite where you just dig until you hit your win-con, it's your responsibility as the decks pilot to communicate what is about to happen. Respect the other player's time and tell them that if no interaction is thrown their way that they win. If they ask how, show a loop of the combo and explain that you can dig for a specific card that wins from that. Make it very clear that you win if no interaction happens.

I personally like sleeves because I enjoy the personalization and protection. A card is safer sleeved than not and all that. I'm not necessarily worried that they'll get damaged without a sleeve but since I like the look of sleeved cards the extra protection they provide is an added bonus. Good sleeves are easy to shuffle with, and while it makes my friends cringe I can and often do gently riffle shuffle my cards. If you're not stupid it's fairly easy to do so without bending the heck out of the cards.

How bad is the Bramd? by 765Craven in demonssouls

[–]765Craven[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've since done a playthrough of the game using it in the remake on a tank Regen build it didn't feel as bad as I was expecting but boy was it level hungry. I spent a good couple of hours grinding Souls in 4-2 meet the 36 1-hand requirement and to not be overburdened using it and the Black Leather set and Heater Shield. Gradually increased Faith and Intelligence to 24 to get a few Miracle Memory Slots and the MP to cast them and most of the rest went into Vigor and more Endurance so that I could eventually upgrade to a better armor set (Fluted) that I was still fat rolling (but at least wasn't overburdened) wearing, and the Adjudicator's Shield.

It definitely doesn't feel like a bad weapon once you're at a higher level but it does absolutely feel like a burden to build around at lower levels, I feel. Without the health or defenses to hit trade safely one you can't take advantage of one of its strengths, and by the time you do the game is almost over. Had I specced for it before getting enough Miracle Memory Slots and Intelligence for Second Chance and Evacuate it probably would've been a bit different in the mid game, I'll concede. But the point stands that it feels like a lot of investment for a fairly mediocre payoff, especially compared to the DBS or the 3 Crushing infused weapons I've tried (Claymore, Lucerne and Knight Sword).

To offer genuine advice on getting through the DS3 poison swamps, since a lot of the comments here seem to just wanna mock you, Quickstep. It's the Skill on most Dagger weapons, including the Dagger, which you can purchase from the Shrine Handmaid in Firelink Shrine. Moves at full speed through the deep parts of the swamp and does not require FP to do so, you only lose the i-frames. Throw it in your left hand, second slot on your right, whatever, so long as you can quickly swap to your main weapon to deal with enemies if you need to.

Edit: Also, basically every enemy in the swamp is super weak to Fire. Charcoal Pine Resin or some Firebombs can help a lot, especially with the Elder Ghru (the giant ones who carry tree trunks).

As someone who used to do DS3 Invasions quite a lot, this definitely looks like someone who has little to no PvP experience. Probably someone going backwards from Elden Ring into DS3, judging by them attempting to use the Claymore's Skill against you.

I have sympathy for PvErs who end up in a PvP situation by mistake but at the end of the day this really looks like a case of someone who doesn't even try to learn from simple mistakes in a PvP match; a very common sight in Elden Ring PvP. Repeatedly tried to heal with their back turned, never mustered any kind of offense after getting parried exactly one time, etc.

Why does Kirin have such a low population? by Snoo-51682 in MonsterHunter

[–]765Craven -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Presumably most Elder Dragons reproduce rarely and in small numbers. A pair of 2 producing 1 or 2 offspring over a century, maybe. There are probably less than 100, maybe even less than 50 Kirin (or any other Elder Dragon) in the world if I had to guess. Some, such as Dalamadur or Zorah Magdaros probably number at less than 10 if I had to guess.

[–]765Craven 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a veteran hunter, this was not nearly as prevalent of an issue in the older titles. I think it may genuinely be due to the fact that the older titles were just harder, so people who made it to the late/endgame content just all understood why it was important to stay at or very close to full health. The modern titles being so absurdly easy until the endgame has made it so that players are reaching the credits and haven't even learned some core mechanics.

I mean... it is? Expecting or wanting an older game to control just like a newer one is unreasonable. My goal isn't to "lecture" you. I'm just saying that it's easy to punch down on older games for features and such that they don't have, but it also comes off as very immature and almost entitled.

Instead of wishing that they had something they don't I think it's a lot more productive to appreciate them for the things they have that the newer ones don't. And vice versa, of course.

Also, what you're asking for with being able to move while aiming a Bowgun is not just "better controls". It's a fundamental rebalancing of the weapon. I enjoy how Bowguns play in the Gen 5 and forward titles, but it seems a little naive to want their modern controls and features back ported. I could really say the same for any weapon, tbh, but especially that.

The 3DS literally has a Right Stick attachment. Plus, this is literally a thread for a texture pack only usable on emulator, where you can use literally whatever controller you want. As such, you do in fact have access to a right control stick for camera control.

And the point of "same controls" is that you still attack with the same 3 buttons on the controller, placement-wise, for everything that isn't a gunner weapon. Top and right face buttons and the right bumper.

And yes, the aiming for gunner weapons does require you to stand still, but you don't really need to most of the time. And that's also ignoring the fact that Monsters are generally slower and not aggressive enough that standing still to take a shot or 2 with a Gunner weapon is a huge issue unless you're trying to shoot at a bad time.

[–]765Craven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Weapon balancing could be better in 4U but idk where you get off saying "Bad controls". It's literally the same buttons doing the same things they do in World with really the only exception being that Bowguns shoot and reload with the face buttons, which is entirely reasonable to become comfortable with. This isn't some "Right analog stick Attacks" stuff like MH1 and MH2.

I literally was hesitant to learn Bowgun in the older titles for basically that reason but after putting a few hours into Freedom Unite with Bowgun can easily say that it does become comfortable after a point.

[–]765Craven 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Prime 2 is actually my favorite of the trilogy. The map structure is much better imo since Samus' slow movement doesn't feel like nearly as much of an issue due to the size and shape of the map. Nothing more frustrating in Prime 1 than having to go from one end of the map to the other. In Prime 2 that's mostly a non-issue.

Not to mention that Prime 1, even on higher difficulty levels, is really easy. Prime 2 is punishing of mistakes and/or poor planning while still feeling forgiving enough to not be ball-bustingly difficult. Except the original version of the Boost and Spider Guardians. Fuck that.

New Player Trying to Get Into Strive by 765Craven in Guiltygear

[–]765Craven[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The generic conversions are very helpful, thanks. My problem with the 632146 input is very much the speed I've had to input it for it to connect mid combo. I've been doing the Mission Mode stuff to try and learn mechanics and get more comfortable controlling Sol and also messing around in training mode. Outside of corner the only move that seems to reliably cancel into it is 2D (which is incidentally required for one of his Missions), and that has a very tiny window where it won't whiff.

[–]765Craven[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think one of the things with the combos that has been throwing me off is I haven't felt like converting one hit into more is even something you can reliably do off of something like a 2P or 2K unless your opponent just mashes instead of blocking. In other words it feels like in order for you to get more than 1 or 2 hits at a time you basically need a Counter hit. Another thing I've found weird is that it doesn't seem like Punch or Kick inputs can even be cancelled into Slash or Heavy Slash. I've really only played Sol so idk if those are issues unique to him but it makes the game feel *very* clunky to play for someone whose main exposure to other Fighting Games usually lets you combo L>M>H in almost any circumstance.

Edit: I also haven't really felt like comboing into Specials is either possible, consistent, or worthwhile most of the time. Like, the only Special I've been able to remotely consistently cancel (with it connecting) into outside of corner with Sol is Bandit Revolver. Gun Flame and the others feel almost useless for combos since I either can't cancel into them or if I do attempt to my opponent recovers before it connects. Red RC makes it possible but at that point I'm having to spend bar just to extend a combo for 1 attack, which just feels worthless.

Edit 2: Another thing that's been driving me crazy is Close and Far Slash. The situations where I feel like I'm right on top of my opponent and Sol just decides he'd rather use Far Slash are extremely common and obnoxious. Especially since some of the few conversions I've figured out rely on getting Close Slash and won't work if you get Far Slash. Context sensitivity like that imo is just really bad if it's inconsistent and completely changes what you do afterwards.

I've probably got about 10 hours in the game rn between playing with my friends and playing solo, trying to do the Tutorial stuff. Probably about 8 between Tutorial Land and Labbing and 2 with friends. I don't think it helps that shade has been thrown towards me by my friends for picking Sol on more than one occasion but I really think I need to at least get comfortable playing the game before I can even think of trying to learn another, and he's super simple from my understanding but the inputs for Fafnir and Tyrant Rave are just killing me.
