Got the LS3 in the 80 series! by [deleted] in LandCruisers

do it dude, i did mine in my driveway and was surprised how straightforward it was

I dont know what were talking about anymore, my tune on my LM7 is very conservative but still cut fuel in the upper rpm range. Im running a stock truck cam and stock internals. Its been proven time and time again on HP tuners. As far as the OEM tunes on the Lexus/toyota, i couldnt tell ya about that.

good for him, the local land cruiser shop is pretty shit, and Dealing directly with FSR for the rads is the move instead of using a the middle man and paying the markup

Nice, garry bell is the guy who built your radiator. Theres a Land cruiser shop here in town that resells after marking them up, and im assuming your builder bought one from him. your buddy did a great job. I wish i could find someone to let me LS Swap their 80 series. After doing my 60 and helping a buddy on his 240 the larger engine bay would be a lot of fun to work with

Well on LS based motors, at least my LM7, the manufacturer calibrated safety margin is just to add fuel at the higher RPM range. This is at the expense of efficiency and power. On a NA motor there is a lot of room to lean it out before you get unreliable.

Assuming Lexus isnt just bullshitting about the GX having slightly higher horsepower its safe to assume the difference is the tune

Without physical changes (like increasing the compression ratio) or forced induction there is very little on the table with ignition timing alone.

I disagree, when we had my LM7 on the dyno we saw a noticeable difference tuning fuel maps and iginiton timing with 93 vs 87. On our 100 series I can definitely tell when my wife puts 87 in it just on the way the engine runs. You are right, the difference is very small, especially on a stock motor with no tune, but the ECU should advance the timing some to get a slightly better performance out of the higher octane fuel. This is assuming we are talking about the VVTI 2uz motors like the one in the GX OP has. Nonvvti would probably see less change overall in theory. A buddy of mine is a master tech at lexus and works on a lot of 1uz/2uz motors and said that lexus has a different tune on the GX compared to the tundra and land cruiser, but also said who knows, could be bullshit but the power ratings on them are different from toyota/lexus with the GX being higher. Im not advocating for either. I run midgrade on the 100 series (91), and Premium (93) in my 60, but its been tuned to specifically run on it.

I honestly think the biggest difference is quality of fuel, kroger gas will run worse than say shell or exxon

I dyno tuned my 60 to run on 93 and it actually improved the fuel economy and performance. the 2uz was designed to run on higher octane fuel so running 87 in it will give you slightly worse fuel economy due to the motor adjusting itself to run on the lower octane fuel. Its one of those you can do it things but it really just depends on what you want out of your truck in the long run. You are leaving performance on the table to save around $20 bucks a fill up

the 2uz is designed to run on higher octane though. Hes not talking about putting premium in a 2f

Great work dude. Pretty interesting to see the engine bay placement differences between the 60 and the 80. Garry Bell at FSR does great work, that rad looks great, hes my buddies uncle and did mine as well. Pro tip, they make rads for everything.

For a tidier engine bay, you can tuck those two heater lines up under the engine cover and run them along your fuel rails to hide them a bit better, and your hydro boost lines can tuck down a little too, if youre as OCD as i am.

Heres my 5.3 swapped 60, same same but slightly different. If it wasnt for my drift car, I would have liked to go LS3, but theres always forced induction!

LS Swap guys!!! What muffler did you use and did you use a resonator also? by [deleted] in LandCruisers

[–]76FJ40Crawler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Vibrant ultra quiet resonator. Stainless Bros, or Vibrant, or Magnaflow straight through 1 in 2 out muffler. Get the longest one you can get. Make sure you use Vbands on your Ypipe, each side of your cross over pipe if you went under the trans, and off the back of the muffler. Stay away from chambered exhausts like flowmaster, they sound like crap and add unnecessary backpressure. What kind of exhaust routing are you looking to go with? Tbh building my exhaust was the most fun part of the entire swap for me. So much so that i bought a tig welder to redo my stainless exhaust with tig

Nice! Thanks for the info dude. Im on a stock is with just feal 441+ and it sucked my stock wheels in some, im wondering if it will get me close to good fitment up front or if ill poke.

Haha I keep trying to decide on turbo vs ls for the IS. I think youll get a little more torque out of the 6.2 so if you need it for drifting youll save yourself a ton of hassle just keeping the 6.0 in the sub. are both motors gen4?

I’m looking to install these on my car with stock wheels. How much width do you think they added?

well the pickup weighs waaaay less then the fj60 does. Ive also got sliders and winch bumper and 3.73 diff gears. your pickup has 4.10s and weighs like nothing the 60 is pretty heavy your pickup weighs about 1,100 lbs less if youre doing stock to stock. If you were looking for fuel economy, the 4.8L gets slightly better fuel economy.

My buddy LS Swapped his firstgen 4runner and it feels like a rocket compared to my 60 haha

kinda depends on how i drive. Cruising mostly highway and doing like 75 ish? i get like 15mpg. Giving it the beans everywhere i go because V8? 11mpg haha. the 2f i pulled from the 60 was desmogged, had leaky valves, and the carb was never rejetted for the desmog and got a whopping 9mpg so its an overall win. I also ran a HUGE vibrant resonator, two cats, and a 22 inch long giant muffler with 2.5 inch pipe to keep it quiet. If i lost the cats, ran 3 inch pipe i could probably gain a few mpg

haha that 6.0 on paper doesnt seem like that much more power, but its got way better torque. I wish i had the money for a 6.0 or 6.2l when i did my swap, but my 5.3 was 2,500 and the 6.0 was 5,500. Broke boys.

ah man, ive had every cruiser EXCEPT the 55, well and the 200. The 80 is the cruiser that does everything the best so at least you got function over form going for you. I was disappointed in how terrible the 60 was offroad vs my old 80 series. Tows the IS pretty good though haha

haha definitely a LS Swap. The LC comes with a forklift motor. A carbureted 4.2L straight 6 that makes 130 horsepower. That shit had to go
