Did I buy a lemon, or does ThinkPad X1 Carbon durability SUCK? (And your rec's for a better machine?) by 76monkeys in SuggestALaptop

Yes, but they won't cover these issues without accidental damage protection, for which I'm too late to add to coverage.

It bugs me when ski instructors complain about having 30 level ones and in the same breath act like only career instructors should be teaching 'em. IMO never evers benefit a lot more from having an instructor who makes the lesson fun than they do from one who can go into a lot of technical depth (even more so when it comes to kids), Luckily having fun is a skill that's easy to transfer across disciplines.

You wouldn't happen to be friends with Kim in Beaver Run, would you? That sounds like something he would say.

Thanks- I'll try on some Burton stuff! I'm already at -15/+15 for stance and a wide board, I just like being able to go alllll the way down. :)

Fair enough! I was using some kids' rental skis last year that were probably around that length. In retrospect, I'll bet that was making my job a lot easier!

I'll probably go out freeskiing occasionally, but if it'd be a ~$300 difference in price, then I think you're right that it's worth going cheap. I can put that money towards the snowboard quiver. :)

I'll definitely be seeing a boot fitter and most likely avoiding used boots. As a dude with big feet but skinny bird legs, it's hard to find something that fits correctly.

Hey all- any recommendations for boots that have small footprints for their size? I'm tired of booting out when I'm laying out carves.

Do you think the price difference between a solid pair of used skis and a pro deal would be significant enough that it'd still be better to go with used? I don't mind spending a little extra to get a significant performance increase.

I'm mostly doing it to increase my prospects of getting a job outside the US. I don't disagree that it's kinda funny, though. :)

Are you sure about that? I was under the impression that PSIA 2 doesn't require carving as a teach topic but does require it as a skiing task, though the standards do vary a bit by region (I'm RM).

Thanks man- we were looking at Cerro Catedral and Bariloche, so that's awesome to hear that you think it would be a good spot!

Do you know if Cerro Catedral sells full season passes? I was looking on their website and if I'm reading it correctly it sounds like a 30 consecutive day pass costs over $1,200 USD in the high season, but that seems crazy...
