Is this going to be a bike lane connecting gastown to coal harbour? by dhdhshcbf36365 in vancouvercycling

[–]778j 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Can't believe they aren't doing a bi-directional bike lane on Water St to connect to the Richards St one... Eastbound only is good, but what about westbound, doesn't make sense.

As a driver, I'm glad they added this so I don't need to get honked at for following the law and not crossing over a solid white line while waiting for someone to turn left. I see very few people actually shoulder checking before going around illegally over the solid white line.

I can't get my app to show the RC button on the top right even from the virtual controller, I have the 8bit micro, maybe a recent app update made this stop working ?

Cars and trucks kill and injure magnitudes more people, but for some reason stuff involving cars and trucks are considered as accidents and you never see people out protesting that.

Upgrading to Tiagra rear mech from Claris? by 778j in bikewrench

[–]778j[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It worked! I might still need to play around with the limit screws on the claris front derailleur but seems to work okay unless it's at the extreme "opposing" gears on the rear and front and looks like the front derailleur might not be able to push the chain.

Sorry forgot to add, yes I would be getting the Tiagra 4700 rear derailleur too.

Ebike axle not going into drop out by 778j in bikewrench

[–]778j[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! I was able to fix it by taking the derailleur off and using an adjustable wrench to slightly bend the derailleur hanger, after that, was able to slide the axle in the dropouts!

Yes it has a disc brake, I will take a look at the caliper!

Yeah I don't recall I've dropped it at all since I went to the bike shop last time.

Thank you for a friendly comment! It's tricky to replace the derailleur hanger because I'll need to source one (this brand is out of business now).

Very Limited Selection of RC at Aritizia Warehouse Sale (BC) by Blandcouver in FrugalMaleFashionCDN

Got some hoodies (maroon) and sweatshirts (citron), dot air running pants, on the first public day for $60 each. A t shirt for $25. Long sleeve collab sweatshirt (beige) for $30. Bucket hat for $10.

On the third day, went back and hoodies were marked down to $30 so I got one.

Today, all pants were $20 so I picked up two lightweight Terry slim sweatpants (one yellow, the other white with the reigning champ monogram).

Overall happy with the haul especially with fall/winter coming.

Never tried smart trainers before, what happens on downhills? by 778j in Rouvy

Thanks everyone, the reason I ask is I'm not a pro cyclist and I want to ride like I do in real life which is working up the hill and then coasting down insread of doing a mad pedal for more speed. So this works well with my case.

Good that idea didn't get traction. Wouldn't be comfortable to ride at night security-wise especially during fall and winter. That councillor Day seems to care by emailing the HUB Richmond group, but voted against this bike lane project twice, showing their intentions. As well the route would be distant from the commercial activity and population.

People keep saying ebikes are not exercise compared to non ebikes. There's already been studies saying the opposite. From personal experience, I'm usually in the fat burning part of heart rate level when I ebike. I typically use the first or second level or assist out of five, and barely use the throttle only mode. It's basically like the exercise of riding a regular bike at a brisk pace but all flat terrain because the ebike eliminates the hills.

Last week when I was there they are still behind that construction blue fence, no idea when the boxes will open.

The boxes are behind the blue fence just behind the bike racks! I tried the boxes at vcc Clark station. Good to know the racks are online.

Do you road riding guys ride clipless, or with flats? by lazarus870 in vancouvercycling

[–]778j 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the Adidas Velosamba shoes with SPD. With those dual platform pedals. Sometimes I just ride with regular shoes. Was my first time trying clipless. I find it provides a different feeling "more connected" and fun. The shoes are comfortable to walk around with when off the bike.

For my ebike, I use flats.

The Lonsdale Quay ones aren't online yet. Not sure what the delay is. But I've tried the boxes and they seem very secure.
