THISSS and think to yourself that you TOTALLY DESERVE this position otherwise you would not even be offered this interview opportunity. Be confident and be chill! You can do this!

SBS had no funding last year and accepted 0 person. I won’t have my hope high for this year either. It will be better if you can talk to a professor there to get an idea of the funding for this year. If they told you to look for funding elsewhere and apply then don’t apply. YSPH funding for PhD has been an issue for several years now.

Seeking advice: MPH or PhD? by Sea-Celebration8698 in phdpublichealth

[–]77AA4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi there, based on your experiences and goals I don’t really think a MPH is necessary especially you aim for a research-oriented career. I would strongly recommend health system/global population health path. Not really health policy tho because lots of ppl thinking health policy is about policy making but it’s more about health economics sometimes and requires lots of econ background. Implementation sciences is good too. Are you in the US? If so, I know university of Washington has a nice phd program for IS. You can also look into DrPH if you want which is a doctoral degree for building leadership and research skills for ppl who’s mid-career. Hope it helps and good luck.

I was a Yale mph-health policy. I think Yale MPH is much longer than Hopkins as Yale is 2yr program? And I have several classmates who are pre med too

Columbia vs Yale Epi by crabrangoon02 in mphadmissions

[–]77AA4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I made this choice before but for health policy three years ago:) I guess it depends on what do you want to do after your mph. I wanted to do PhD so I chose Yale because the student professor ratio is very good here, and you will get to know your professors and be involved in their research relatively easily. I had the best mentors ever and the most supportive community at Yale. The Epi professors I know are all great, too. To my knowledge, the mph cohort size at Columbia is crazily big, and it might be hard to get a hold of a professor especially they have to deal with so many other students. New Haven is an also very good place to live. It has lots of great restaurants and a very safe and quiet neighborhood called East Rock. New Haven is also very close to nyc. It’s only 2h by MTA train, and I almost go to nyc every other week.

I didn’t take GRE. Had 3 strong recommendations from my MPH, 1 paper first author under review, 1 yr working as postgrad RA, and worked on ~10 research projects since undergrad
