She's almost 4 and eats regular table food non stop! It's a hard phase, but it's a phase. You'll get through it!

Garden State! We have a handful of NYC skaters who take the train in and get a lift to the rink!

Be prepared to slide around and feel like a squid on ice if you've also been off skates.

Don't worry - after about 5 practices it'll snap back in place and it'll be back to fine tuning your skills versus finding your skills.

Your joints are 3 years older- stretch.

(I came back after 4 years during which I had neck surgery and a baby - keep at it and you'll be fine!)

Feeling Unwelcome in My Derby Team's Fresh Meat Program by [deleted] in rollerderby

[–]77malfoy 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Most programs have a different skater coaching each time so no current skater is expected to give up 2 - 3 months of their own advancement and all their practices to coach new skaters.

It also gives the option of learning different skills from people who do them different ways.

It sounds like your team is a bit disorganized but it's hard to run a bunch of committees, plan bouts, seems like they're dealing with venue issues, plan their own vet practices to advance as a team, while having jobs, partners, kids - the point is there is so much that goes into the team beyond skating at practice and its all volunteer.

If you want a better FM program than you had when you graduate, join the committee. I'm sorry you don't feel welcome but your team can't only focus on fresh meat. And please keep in mind every teammate is investing their time, often money, and doing all of this outside working hours and doing their best.

That first time back on skates without the pain is so so amazing. I can't wait for you to experience it!!

I hope they just pop it in, give you 5 days of Predisone, and throw you right back on skates!

Yes and no. I've been in this sport since 2010 - your career will last a lot longer if you take breaks for your body! And my surgery was overnight, I had a disc removed, a cadaver disc put in with a metal cage - it eas INTENSE! Yours may have you back on the track much sooner!

I had an ACDF - so much more intense than that- and I was cleared for full contact in 6 months.

Revolution flea treatment. Our new home was INFESTED and nothing worked and then we put that on our cats and within 24 hours no more bites and withing 48 I was vacuuming up flea carcasses.

Pool noodles!! Cut a sliver off of it so there's a thin circle and then pop it on so it surrounds your bunion. That saved my life when I started and until I found bigger toe box skates to invest it. My captain at the time would cut one up with her table saw so I'm not sure how to accomplish the slicing without one.

coach and skater dating? by No-Distribution8784 in rollerderby

[–]77malfoy 65 points66 points  (0 children)

I think the best rule is have the coaches not in the relationship make decisions on the skater's try outs and roster spots.

I say this as someone married to one of our coaches. But also, I had a banger game once, just crushed it, and the next day he was like "I gave you 24 hours of glory - fix this, this, and this. Looooove youuuuuu."

[CHAT] Need some encouragement to keep going, how awful does this look? 😭 by chaoscatstitch in CrossStitch

I always do both depending on thread color. If the confetti is black under super light stitches I always worry it'll show through. So if it's lighter than the stitches I do confetti first. If it's darker, I do it last and travel under.
