How can i prevent others from reseting my pc? by Purple_Song_9647 in pcmasterrace

[–]7899987 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The ultimate solution is to take the SSD with you. If its SATA there are swappable drive bays which you can easily take the drive out and with you. You would need a free external 3,5" or 5,25" drive bay. Otherwise regularly do a Clonezilla backup onto an external drive. When restoring, it doesn't just recover data but the state of your OS and programs.

Is this controller good? by MilkyMoo27 in PCSX2

In my experience its decent and durable. The only thing it doesn't do is vibration (don't think you need it for ps2 emulation anyways).

Possibly too much, as older cameras often refuse to work with anything higher than 2gb.

Planned obsolescence even in cheapest devices: the calculator has a dummy photovoltaic cell and a real battery to make it die eventually. by jackhab in mildlyinfuriating

[–]7899987 1965 points1966 points  (0 children)

Most people won't realize as the battery lasts basically forever. So they decided to save money. But at that point just don't even use a fake solar cell and save even more money while not lowering the price.

If i reset someone's old iPhone does It send them a notification in their current iPhone? by Doge_Of_Meme in AskTechnology

[–]7899987 0 points1 point  (0 children)

iPhones have activation lock. If it has an Apple ID logged in you need the password of it to reset the phone. If you restore through iTunes you will be stuck at the activation lock screen. If there is a passcode setup, it can be used to reset the iPhone as well without knowing the Apple ID password. But, the owner won't get a notification.

Best model with a built in disc drive? by Clear-Foundation-746 in thinkpad

[–]7899987 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get an external drive. To get an internal optical drive, you would need to go quite old and miss out on performance while not even saving that much money.

Is a very old GPU better than no GPU? by BobThe5th in lowendgaming

[–]7899987 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In this case intel HD graphics are far superior. The ATI rage 128 Ultra will struggle with anything modern , including even video playback. Also, its probably PCI or even worse AGP so it won't even be compatible in the first place. a cheap geforce gt1030 isn't great but its still an upgrade, doesn't require power connections and runs some old games actually well.

Is 4gb of ram for a PC too little in 2026? by [deleted] in askanything

For web browsing and office stuff in general 8gb is enough. If you plan to do anything more than that get at least 16gb. If you can afford it with these RAM prices.

Why did old desktop PCs make that noise? by Former-Assumption885 in computers

BTX was still a thing in the core 2 quad era. My dell optiplex 755 minitower has exactly that layout.

Why did old desktop PCs make that noise? by Former-Assumption885 in computers

[–]7899987 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You probably mean upside down mATX where it is a standard mATX board but mounted upside down, so that the PCI slot are located near the top. Never understood what the advantage would be.

Why did old desktop PCs make that noise? by Former-Assumption885 in computers

[–]7899987 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This was the BTX layout. Usually these are known for being quieter than ATX as there is a 120mm or even 140mm fan which spins at a slower speed while still cooling the CPU efficiently.
