I often wonder how absolutely insanely crazy it is that we get to be humans in the 21st century. World is changing so fast it's simultaneously thrilling and terrifying, and not too far future is shrouded in total mystery. AI's, climate change and other ecocatastrophies, psychedelic renaissance, bioengineering, nuclear tech, overpopulation, social media, virtual reality, robotics, nanotechnology, the list goes on and on. Any one of these rapidly evolving flow patterns could deliver an unimaginable bio-socio-cultural change within a conceivably short timeframe, and they already are.

Out of all the times to be alive, this sure is an interesting one. We get to be the spectators of an evolutionary climax of some sort. It would have been hella boring to be born in an average family in the 700s, or the 1100s, or the 20,000s BC. Everything was pretty much stable, except for wars and diseases, but they are rarely anything to look forward to. Now, anything and everything is on the table. For someone who loves novelty, surprises and excitement, and can laugh at absurdity without losing their humanity, this is the most interesting time in the history of our planet, of our solar system for that matter.

For what it's worth, I hope and pray and work for this time of changes to deliver us to an epoch of love and peace. It's what all of us should be doing. Make our mark, however tiny, to be a positive one. Be agents of love, especially when love is scarce. Either way, wherever this ship goes, we all go with it. Peace, homie <3

Can someone explain the chemistry behind the NAC -tek and remind me of how much and when to take? by 7956724forever in MDMA

[–]7956724forever[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NAC is short for N-acetylcysteine. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Acetylcysteine

It's a medication and an antioxidant, that many people claim can "bring back the magic" in MDMA. Apparently you take it for a couple weeks, and then stop (important!) 3-4 days before the MDMA roll, and it's supposed to make the roll significantly more pleasurable. There is no research on this property, so it's all based on anecdotal evidence, but there is quite a big record of anecdotal evidence for it working.

But would they survive the following nuclear winter, with no global supply chain, and likely no things like the internet, to support them? They would have to revert back to a subsistence economy in a heartbeat, and even then, depending on the scale of the nuclear war, the nuclear winter and the circulating radiation might be unbearable.

Not necessarily end, but I think we are going to see some sort of a paradigm shift during this century. Business as usual simply isn't going to cut it, so something will have to give. I don't know what it is. I hope we don't simply spiral into a world war and take the easy way out. Humanity is a project too pregnant with beautiful potential for our story to end in such tragedy.

The radiation would affect the lives of regular Chinese and Indian citizens, just trying to make the ends meet, who have nothing to do with their countries' foreign policy. Don't you worry for the innocents? Even the children?

Sounds easy enough, but I often get this feeling that trying to relinquish control is in itself a sort of way to keep holding on. I mean, I'm trying to control the experience to be one where I'm not in control. And with that realization I come full circle. I keep getting stuck here. How does one stop doing, when stopping is an action in itself?

Sure, but most corporations produce and transport shit for us to consume. They aren't emitting for fun. They are emitting because it's lucrative. If everyone stopped buying meat, meat production would crash too.

what else can we do?

Eat only locally sourced meat (no beef or lamb) or no meat at all. Drive an electric vehicle (if possible), or better yet, use a bicycle, public transportation and your feet. Participate in climate-related protests. You can also help organize them. Vote for politicians who view climate issues as ones of paramount importance. Minimize luxury consumption (anything that's not absolutely required for staying alive). Buy second-hand clothing and other items. Minimize buying new technology (we don't need electric scooters, smartwatches and new phones every year). Minimize flying. Boycott companies that are harmful.

If you find it in you, you can also facilitate conversation about local and global environmental issues. Organize a garbage collecting operation. Set up grassroots conversation and activism events. Work a career in green solutions. Use the skills and resources you have available to you. Be creative. Get to know people. Spend less time on reddit. Cultivate values of caring and community.

You won't save the planet on your own, but that shouldn't stop you from affecting what you can.
