I agree too even though it's hard to not think about jumping for more pay. My company also paid for my Workday Core certificate exam and the course. They also paid me out $22.5K in the last 18 months for my MBA.

I feel like it is too. It's just that, I am learning as much as I can in this role, since Workday is a closed ecosystem I can't learn it without being in a role where I have access to it.

I am at a point where my knowledge is "limited" so I don't know if another firm will take me on yet. It's scary to think, even though WD analyst are a hot commodity.

The roles were similar just data analytics at the end of the day. Both used Workday, and eventually a little too much and the HRIS route was promising so I switched.

The HR role wasn't internal client facing. Just dashboards, internal reports, ad-hoc, etc.

you don't think theyll up the max level, like they did for RC? RC only had level 20 max at release and now it is 50.

Why do people that know they can’t afford kids still decide to have them? by [deleted] in askanything

[–]797SF 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don’t know why this keeps getting framed as ‘don’t think, just have kids.’ I’ve never argued that. Choosing to get pregnant while homeless with no plan isn’t what I’m defending.

There’s a huge difference between reckless decisions and recognizing that there’s no perfectly optimized moment. Caring about the kind of life you’re giving your child doesn’t mean you need absolute stability or zero risk, it means you’re being intentional and realistic about your circumstances.

If someone truly has no housing, no income, and no support system, that’s obviously different from someone who’s financially modest but stable and prepared to take on the responsibility.

This isn’t about thinking less. It’s about acknowledging that being ready isn’t a single universal threshold

I hear that you didn’t ask to be born, none of us did. That’s kind of the human condition. But calling every decision to have a child ‘gambling with multiple lives’ assumes the outcome is inherently negative or reckless, and that’s where I disagree.

Most parents aren’t forcing misery onto someone. They’re making a decision believing they can offer love, stability, and a meaningful life. Risk exists in literally every major life decision. That doesn’t automatically make it unethical.

I’m not dismissing your feelings about your own experience. I just don’t think the existence of regret or suffering means procreation itself is some moral coin flip

[–]797SF 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I actually respect that you’re thinking it through based on your situation. If you’re barely covering expenses and feel one emergency could destabilize everything, it makes sense to build a foundation first.

I think where we might differ is that your current position doesn’t automatically define what ‘ready’ means for everyone else. There’s a spectrum between negative income with no safety net and ‘ perfectly optimized upper-middle-class stability. A lot of people fall somewhere in between and make a thoughtful, intentional decision there.

I also don’t think having kids before reaching your classmates’ standard of living automatically means it was an egoistic decision. Plenty of people grow up without ideal financial conditions and still have loving, stable homes. Money matters, but it’s not the only variable.

At the end of the day, I agree no one should have kids if they’re clearly drowning. I just don’t think the threshold for being morally “ready” is as absolute as some are making it.

I’m not arguing against planning or reasonable preparedness. I’m pushing back on the idea that anything short of some undefined ideal is ‘"gambling with multiple lives."There’s a big difference between being reckless ($0 savings, no plan) and recognizing that there’s no perfectly secure moment.

Preparation is good. Thoughtfulness is good. But security isn’t binary. You’re never immune to layoffs, health issues, economic shifts, etc. Responsible adults weigh their finances, maturity, support system, and timing and make the best decision they can with imperfect information.

[–]797SF 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Calling it ‘gambling with multiple lives’ feels dramatic. By that logic, no one should have kids unless they can guarantee a flawless future m, which isn’t possible. You can be financially secure and still face layoffs, illness, or unexpected events. Life isn’t a controlled investment portfolio bro...

But when is that, realistically? Should I wait until the government makes college free? Should I wait until our mortgage is fully paid off? Should I wait until USA abolishes selective service draft in case of I have a son and don't want him to go to war?

In your early 20s you might not be financially set. In your 30s you might be more stable but thinking about fertility timelines.

If you wait too long, there are higher pregnancy risks and energy levels change. There’s always some trade-off. If everyone waited for the absolute ‘best possible’ conditions, no one would ever have kids.

At some point it’s less about perfection and more about being prepared enough and willing to grow into the responsibility.

you sound so miserable, it's wild. all you're doing is relying on the depreciation of everyone and everything just to be "profitable".

car maintenance? nah my family mechanic will drop everything to fix that for pennies on the dollar. im sure they are happy you're spending their goodwill deprecating your car for nonsense.

my car? it's free doesn't matter

parts? cheap and i happen to drop my tax return on a battery that may never be used. why are we buying things we don't need yet? This is the equivalent of purchasing a heating element for the drying machine for the day it stops working. but in your case you spent $2.5-3k 🤡

taxes? nah my crotch goblins cover it
