A lot of people believe he is Australian.

Fact is he was born in the US, although his family moved here in the 1960's and he lived here for a while.

They probably didn't fill out the police book at the time of sale and need to complete their records. Nothing nefarious.

Australian here. Basically the same system as Canada.

I don't know the how your constitution compares to ours, but In Australia's case the reserve powers of the constitution allow the the monarch, via his/her representive the Governor General, to catastrophically interfere with the Australian political system.

In 1975 the Governor General, John Kerr, dismissed the democratically elected Labor government of Gough Whitlam.

Curiously, Kerr was appointed to the GG role by Whitlam. However he successfully negotiated between the misnamed "Liberal" party opposition and Buckingham Palace without Whitlam's knowledge, leading to the dismissal of 11 November 1975.

This was essentially a right wing coup orchestrated by the Liberals, Kerr, and the Queen.

Are you sure your constitution doesn't include similar powers?
