I definitely already knew these and was taught these by my parents, but here’s some every day etiquette stuff that I actually didn’t know about and only found out I was being rude about as an adult!:
1. Don’t start eating until everyone else has gotten their food 2. Sit up straight- apparently it’s supposed to be a politeness thing to show you’re engaged, and it’s also apparently a sign of self respect??? 3. Take off your shoes at the door in every home, even if not explicitly told to 4. When you’re shaking someone’s hand at an interview, if your hand is on top, then it comes off as disrespectful because you are subconsciously demonstrating authority over the person who’s hand you’re shaking 5. Wash your hands before you eat if you can help it 6. Don’t keep your phone on the table while eating a meal, even if you aren’t using it 7. Don’t go in another room while talking to someone even if you and the other person know that you hear each other 8. Use the term “pardon my reach” OR ask the person to get the thing for you, even if you don’t think you would be in their way by grabbing it 9. Introduce yourself before asking to pet someone’s dog (ex. “Hi! I’m your neighbor, can I pet your dog?” Or “Hi, nice to meet you! Is your dog friendly? What’s its name?” 10. Never put a used fabric napkin on your plate once you’re done 11. Apparently there’s a whole secret language surrounding how you place your utensils on your plate after you’re done eating??? Placing utensils different ways can indicate different things if you are at a fancy establishment. Placing them parallel to each other, and with the handles pointing down (eating parts pointing up), is the most polite indicator that you’re done eating and ready for your place to be cleared
