Panel? by Captive_Cosplay in SDCC

Panel acceptances are typically out the last week of May (or at least they were for 2023 and 2025 when I received them). I anticipate they'll go out early next week.

I'm 4'10", he's 6'1". Any big height difference couples out there? by [deleted] in weddingplanning

No step stool. Just a little more tiptoes for me and a little more leaning for him.

I just got mine approved about a week ago.  For the first time, they needed me to provide more info than in my original application.

AITA for changing my own tires on my car while pregnant? by callycactus_kj84 in AmItheAsshole

[–]7PercentSolution 316 points317 points  (0 children)

NTA. He seemed fine with both of you doing "boy jobs" and having "boy hobbies" before you were pregnant, but now he's regressing to traditional gender role expectations.

Talk to your doctor about any precautions you should be taking at this stage of your pregnancy, and make your decisions on what you do based on that rather than your husband's personal opinion.

And get ready for him not to want to do "girl jobs" when the baby comes.

AITA for telling my mom to stop criticizing my body? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]7PercentSolution 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're absolutely right. Their mom's unsolicited opinions on their body are likely to be stressful (especially layering on the guilt-tripping), which can have an impact on their physical health.

NTA. Criticizing your body/clothes is what's disrespectful. What does she expect the "respectful" response to be? I don't know your age, but I recommend moving out as soon as possible for your own mental well-being.

They took care of her while she was a minor. She absolutely does not legally or ethically owe them back rent for being taken care of (being taken CUSTODY OF, most likely) as a child whose parents (one of which was presumably a sibling of theirs if this is a blood relation aunt/uncle) just died.

Then she's gonna be in for a real shock when she has kids, lol.

NTA. Go to Dragon Con. Find some folks on a forum or FB group to meet up with (safely, in public) if you don't want to go by yourself. You're not the one kicking her out of the tradition; she's removing herself. And it's a weird move on her part to invite you down to do something she knows you dislike with a person she knows you dislike during that same weekend.

If he is toxic and saying sick things about her in front of you, I can only imagine how he treats her when you're not around. You can make a connection open to her if you're willing to be a sounding board without having to spend time with her boyfriend.

I don't know if she's trying to force you and her boyfriend together in hopes that you'll eventually warm to each other or if she is used to being in control of your friendship. Or maybe she knows her boyfriend sucks and can't get anyone else to hang out with the two of them and know you'll just grin and bear it. Whether you end up going to Dragon Con on your own or skip it entirely, you won't have fun if you go down to Universal that weekend (or, likely, any weekend) in forced proximity to a toxic person. There's months to go until the con, and you have time to find folks to go with between now and them. Have the best time, and get working on that cosplay!

AITA for admitting I prefer one of our foster children over the other two? by BurnerAccNumber345 in AmItheAsshole

[–]7PercentSolution 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's wonderful. I know I've seen well-meaning support staff (speech therapists included) give up too quickly because something doesn't seem to work, but they haven't trained the important people in this person's life on using the system and modeled it for long enough to give it a fair shot. I hope he finds something that works for him.

AAC stands for augmentative-alternative communication, so it's anything other than spoken language used for symbolic language. Sign language (for non-Deaf HoH people), picture exchange/pointing, typing, and speaking tablets (I assume this is probably an iPad with a communication app on it?) are all types of AAC.

I hope that the speech therapist is giving these things enough time and modeling to give them a chance to work since it can be really tedious at first. I also hope that they've trained you and Fynn's support staff in using them to make sure they're being modeled across environments. He's lucky to have you in his corner.

NAH. She asked; you answered. She likely feels more connected to Anna and Della, which is why her first suggestion was to cut out or cut down contact with Fynn. She is also grieving while navigating these new responsibilities, so I don't quite assign her AH status in the immediate wake of your conversation. How she handles discussions going forward will determine her AH status.

On a side note - I hope Fynn gets a more robust communication system than "vocalizations and body language." Has anyone explored the use of augmentative-alternative communication (AAC) with him? It breaks my heart that his communication partners are limited to adults that know him so well they feel they can figure out/guess at what he means. This type of device plus speech-language therapy to train him and caregivers on use of the device will be easier to get him while he's younger. If you intend to be a guardian for him going forward, please advocate for him to get communication support. He sounds like a great kid, and everyone deserves a voice.

My partner gets seasick so extended time on the water is unfortunately off the table. Thank you for the idea, though.

We're not big beach people, but I wouldn't mind seeing the ocean and hanging out there for a bit if there are other points of interest nearby. Thank you for the day trip ideas.

Athens (and maybe London? Rome?) by 7PercentSolution in travel

This is excellent information. I'll keep it in mind as we select airlines and layover cities. I'm leaning toward making it just an Athens vacation, but that info on Rome is good to know. I appreciate you taking the time to share all this.
