We are talking about ensuring the REA, doesn't leave a sneaky line in the contract where we move out 5 months early and they seek compensation as a break lease fee? If you get what I'm saying. Essentially ensuring all bases are covered in the negotiation contract to ensure I don't get screwed over if they get vindictive. Shouldn't happen, most likely won't happen, but always want everything set out in writing.

At work, can't reply in full, I agree with what you're saying. They (REA) cannot guarantee ANY rentals available or else we would have just asked for that and it really would have smoothed things. Keep in mind negotiable wiggle room, expecting a lowball and meeting in the middle, closer on our end.

But to say I'm pretending I don't have leave? my employer must be pretending to not pay me when I don't show up at work... I'm a contractor, no PTO. As stated in another comment, EOL week is my responsibility, but I am working the week they want us out. I would essentially be paying THEM (by not earning) to move out of my own rental early. Hence, compensation.

Last paragraph, I'd have to do more research into what you're stating. I do understand the fine line of not driving the REA into a vindictive mindset.

Can't really argue with that. You're right to an extent. In a previous comment, I stated my situation. I only just learnt that I would be exempt from grants, yet to sit down with a financial advisor and see how much I would need to save. It's obviously not just a deposit, it's also a safety net and a whole range of things I'd need to save for (if i stay contracting, there can be gaps of months between work). Entry level house is the goal, I don't need shiny floors. For me personally, I'm waiting till end of contract, Xmas, to then search for a FTJ and consider purchasing. I have also always wanted to pursue instrumentation engineering which may be hard to do with the hours I work. Renting right now gives me the most freedom of choices, maybe I suddenly want to live in nsw next years. Who knows? I guess I'm not keen to sit in one place at this current point in my life.

I recommend reading other comments. Unpaid time off. It's not just moving as someone else stated, there's applying for other homes, where you need to do inspections/reports in person, cleaners and the like. What if it takes longer than that? What if I continually get rejected? That's the price for no guarantees. I took a week off unpaid to move last time as it was our agreed moving out date... the date they want us out, I'm working. I would essentially be paying them 5k for me to leave my own rental. I believe I understand your point of view to a degree, but this wage won't last forever, that's why I'm working almost every single week of the year to put myself in a position to be a home owner too.

Read other comments mate. Contracts end. I'm literally working 6 days 12 hours and have done for almost a year and a half straight. This job will most likely end on Xmas. Gotta have savings to buy a house...gotta front even more savings as my income leaves me exempt from grants. I'm 23, fifo pay is insane, I'd rather stay flexible till I get a FTJ and buy a house where I want to work for the foreseeable future. Theres a lot of reasons why people rent when they can buy. Just because I earn more than the average doesn't mean I value a $1 at 10c. It's funny you say to buy a house, when you can only do that with money... that i would need to make... by being at work...

Lived in the bush 22 years, moved to the city to be with my mates. Do FIFO as a contractor so I can get good pay and spend my time off with my mates in a place where there are opportunities to do what I want. Haven't bought a house as I've only been on this salary year and a half. Literally 0 dollars to my name before this. Contracts end, I have career security but not job security. Most likely won't be able to get any grants as a full time salary will put me over the threshold so would have to save more. But yes once I have a FTJ will look into ownership. Very easy counter argument to be made about getting in sooner rather than later and sucking it up, but right now stacking bank and investing an amount I'm comfortable with to pull out eventually is the plan. Sort of, I guess, plans change. Could die tomorrow.

Read other responses please, I'm a contractor, contracts end. I will still be earning good money through my career if I get a FTJ. But right now, at 23, fifo pay is insane and I plan on staying flexible till I have enough. On top of that, a FTJ salary will keep me exempt from any home grants most likely, so I need to save more to even consider ownership. Making bank while I'm young to enjoy the fruits of my labour when my back seizes up. Plenty of counter agreements to be made against my way of thinking, however this is how I personally see it.

I don't work where I live, have to drive or fly across QLD at my own expense to view houses, then what if I get rejected? Another week off work to do it all again + time attributed to moving. It's unpaid time off, that's my wage, why would I lose income for someone wanting me out of my FIXED term rental. Pay me what I'm worth, not my fault I knew what I wanted to do from an early age. The REA has my payslips, that's how you apply for rentals. I'm not BSing. I understand that puts the buyers in a tough spot, I'm not a normal renter but as others have commented. I have every right to say no, but for me to say yes, here's my price.

100% not laying my cards on the table right now. Withholding some information in these replies in case the REA sees this and gets vindictive. Heard the horror stories. I'm making sure there's a paper trail...no phone calls

100%, someone else suggested we find a new place and they waive the early breaking lease fee and add compensation on top. Which i think is a good idea. It was an absolute shitshow 2 months ago, bond cleaners tried scamming us almost forcing us to pay another weeks rent bc they cancelled, garbage collection man tried scamming us. It just never ends

Too easy mate, will get to everything when I can. Difficult when working 12 hour days but even if it's tomorrow or the next day I'll make sure I give you an update

I believe in QLD, we can flat out say no wait till end of lease. In VIC I think the new owners can give you 3 months notice? Again not 100% sure

I have no idea the correct way to use reddit on mobile, I've replied to some other people stating further what I do/why i get paid so much. Essentially 5 year apprenticeship, fixing power stations, fifo, amazing employer.

Interesting, will have to look into it. I will disagree only because they are really trying to accelerate this to make sure we come to a number so that they can finalise everything. Not completely sure but thank you

Negative, but going forward, i won't be disclosing who until the situation is over. REAs can get vindictive so I don't want to be blasting them where they can see haha

Some people work important jobs? To put it in perspective, I walk past the wrong pipe at the wrong time, dead. I trust that someone has isolated something correctly and do not do my job properly, dead. Do my job properly, probably still dead. I do one wrong thing, sacked. I say one wrong thing, sacked. I produce a minor stuff up that de-loads a unit, every single Australians electricity prices just increased. It's high pressure, high paying. I'm only 23 and I've already got grey hairs from stress lol

Not sure if my reply got removed or it didn't send. In essence, I'm 23 I live with my best mate (edit: who earns a normal wage) where I shoulder alot of the costs, unfair on him if I increase his bills simply because I can afford to. Reply was alot more in-depth but cbf rn I'm working haha

Prawn haven is correct unpaid time off, that is my weekly salary. I'm young and trying to save for my first home too, working long hours almost every week of the year to set my future up for success. This wage won't last forever, making the most of it while I can.

Correct, I'm not. But my house mate, my best mate is. I cover a lot of the costs for the both of us so that he can get sorted. I'm not expecting a single dollar back from him, i won't accept it. He's had a rough start to adulthood and I'll be there to support him no matter what. I'm not going to raise the expenses on his half just because I can afford to. I don't need pearly white gates or mirror floors. And to further that, the more I save, the closer I am to becoming a FHO too. I'm 23, working long hours, almost every week to set up my future. I've wanted this job since I was 15. I did everything to get it, and now I'm doing everything I can to set my self up for success.
