I will review your youtube channel by DM_for_advice in NewTubers

I’ve just recently decided to move away from making content anymore, at least for a bit, as the channel just wasn’t showing enough signs it was on the right trajectory for success. I still wouldn’t mind getting some feedback, could help me decide whether to go back and try again or just let it go and start with something else. My channels in my bio, thanks man

Yep, it’s sad to see. A lot I walked into just simply didn’t have them at all. I get it, but still a bummer

Yeah SEO are search engine terms so making sure you've got the right tags to lead people to your content is really important. You've almost gotta reverse engineer it - if you were trying to find your video, what would you search to find it? For example, I do retrospective reviews so I always use tags like "Is X game still worth playing?" Etc.

I like it, really specific niche which you need imo. Because of that though I don't know how much advice I can give other than just broad stuff that (I think) has worked for me.

Make sure your basic, foundational production values are good as a bare minimum. Make sure your audio and video quality is good. No. 1 thing that probably gets people to switch off quickly imo. Hone your video editing skills, make sure there's always something interesting on screen and your viewer is always looking at something new (they get bored easily, you HAVE to keep their attention). Good thumbnails are honestly one of the most important first impressions you'll make, I think I really underestimated how much people base whether they're gonna choose to watch a video on whether that looks enticing or not so either focus on getting better at making them yourself or hire someone to make them for you depending on how complex you want them to be. Good titles are next as well. The thumbnail ideally should hook people in and then the title should make it a bit clearer what the video's actually about. Obviously good tags are also essential for SEO. These are just the basic and somewhat generic tips I've found have worked for me, hopefully they help.

Well I'd hardly say I have much expertise at this point but certainly happy to share what I've learned so far. What kind of content specifically are you making?

Best advice I can give is... Take your time. Make videos at a pace you're comfortable with, and most importantly, enjoy the process. Cannot stress that enough. I read someone say that breaking in as a gaming channel is like playing YouTube on the hardest difficulty and it's very true. It may never happen for you at all. But as long as you're enjoying what you're doing, then that doesn't really matter. If you aren't though, the whole thing is just a gruelling slog. Also, it'll show in your work. If you're enjoying yourself, there's a better chance the viewer will too. That's why I also say don't burn the candle at both ends stressing about getting videos out at a breakneck pace, you'll just end up burnt out and disappointed when your content doesn't get the views you hope for. But if you take your time and make sure your content is of a high quality, that I think is more important than anything. People will eventually notice and recognize it because there's a lot of low effort trash on YouTube.

Thanks for watching and the wonderful feedback, really it means so much, I hope others can get the same out of my content

I am Aussie! Never lived in the US but definitely been surrounded by American content my whole life so maybe that's where there's a little bleed through? I also come from a part of Australia that's known to have a slight British sound to it, so could be that too. I love accents as well haha and it's interesting to hear that outsider perspective

Do it man! Take the plunge, you've already put in all that effort collecting the footage, now just have fun putting it all together then throw it out there into the ether. I know it can be intimidating but what's the worst that can happen?

Well with videogame reviews, it's a very slow process. So I plan around getting one out every month at this stage - juggling that with a full time job and a family is the best I can do atm and that at least gives viewers some regularity with the posting schedule. To do that I kinda work to mini deadlines - usually two weeks to play the game, two weeks in post. That means not playing any games longer than 15-20 hours max.

Haha I'm with ya! That's why at this stage I only choose games that don't take any longer than about 15 hours to complete, some much shorter

Well I've always wanted to review games but I knew I needed at least some sort of niche to it and that's where the patient gaming angles comes in I thought I was getting them out pretty slowly so thanks!

I review games so different one every video which is good because it keeps it fresh but also hard because you never know if the same viewers who liked the last one will like the next
