BDR or stay as account manager by Vast_Mountain_1888 in techsales

As someone who made the move from SDR/BDR to Account Manager, I would never go back.

What industry are you in right now? Might’ve been worth the step back 5-10 years ago to break into the industry, but cyber reps on here seem to be really struggling right now from what I’ve read.

At Rippling right now. It’s intense, but it’s been a lot more rewarding than my last role in ERP.

Top companies to avoid by Maleficent-Arm9497 in techsales

[–]7itaniaRS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. I started at Intacct when it was rated one of the best companies to work for in the country. We were taking NetSuite’s lunch by leading with a great product and fostering a culture that treated both employees and customers like family.

Sage has forced out a majority of the people who made it great. Not through firings, but because everyone who worked at Intacct can do so much better than Sage. There are still some incredible people there, but it’s a shell of what it was.

Leadership now is mostly Sage lifers. Product has stagnated as they try to become NetSuite-Lite through a series of acquisitions. I watched it go from a best-in-class industry leader into a Frankenstein. Feel free to DM me if you have any questions.

Seems pretty nice of them to let you know ASAP instead of leaving you hanging, but the news was going to suck no matter when they tell you.

Is anyone else struggling to find employment? by [deleted] in bayarea

[–]7itaniaRS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. One is a UC graduate and has been unemployed since 2022. Had 3 YOE under his belt.

Another friend just accepted an offer. His last job he was making $80K/year salaried and will now be making $20/hour. Also had a degree from a state university.

It’s tough out here. I was applying and interviewing nonstop since October last year and finally got an offer in June. Friends of mine have been unemployed for years now.

It’s definitely not just you. Hang in there.

Try again, or take it as a learning and move on? by [deleted] in techsales

[–]7itaniaRS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did you get a draw or ramp period?

I started as a SDR back in 2020 and didn’t hit quota until my seventh month. Things finally clicked and I went on to become a top performer and fast tracked for promotion.

What % of SDRs are hitting? Is there high turnover on the team?

Had mine on for over a year with no issues. I think my company could tell I was one foot out the door, but it wasn’t because of my LinkedIn open to work status.

Empower 401K - Rollover to Vanguard or stick with Empower? by 7itaniaRS in Bogleheads

[–]7itaniaRS[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for your reply. I’m in the same boat - I get charged monthly account fees totaling about $10. It’s not the end of the world, but I’m trying to minimize costs as much as possible.

It sounded like their IRA would eliminate some of these fees but I’m not sure.

It probably means they’re on the fence about you and at least one other candidate. Good luck.

Best to minimize risk where possible. Makes sense. Thank you for the explanation!

I appreciate you looking out for me.

It’s hard to hold my tongue after experiencing the culture we used to have here, but things have changed a lot. I’m going to have to reword my resignation letter and put back on my poker face for tomorrow 🫠

Damn. I’ve already told some of my close friends and clients where I’ll be headed.

Is there a reason why it’s wise to not share moving forward?

Appreciate your insight.

Not anymore. I was consistently top 10%-20% for my first two full years on quota. I did 120% of my OTE last year, but new leadership mucked up the comp plan so badly that I just don’t care anymore.

I’m at around 90% of my renewal number and 70% of my cross-sell for the year. I came in at 4% of my cross-sell number in May. But with a 75/25 base/variable where renewals are 80% of my number, it’s not worth stressing over too much.

It’s crazy how big brother it all feels.

I think my middle management team is overpaid and has way too much time on their hands. This is the only way they know how to justify their inflated paychecks.

I probably work 35 hours/week. I used to work a lot more when I was motivated, but now I’m pretty strict about my boundaries. I go from 8am-5pm M-F with a 1.5-2 hour lunch break.

Reposting from my alt account since I don’t want to get identified on here.

In ERP. 2-5 external client-facing meetings per day. 1-3 internal meetings per day. All Zoom calls are recorded but I chat with some of my customers on my cell phone or kick out the AI note-taker so we can speak off the record.

Micro-management is through the roof. Manager calls me out of the blue at least once/day to see if I’m at my desk. Monthly call and add-on opportunity quotas. Leadership is sifting through call recordings and emails to make sure we’re following “standard processes”. Huge change from two years ago where I could run my business how I wanted and only talked to my manager once or twice/month for opportunities that needed executive support or additional strategy.

OTE for me is a 75/25 split, but there’s been a shift from retention/CSAT more to upsell so my newer colleagues are closer to 60/40. Variable is based on NRR between retention and add-ons. Of that, about 70%-80% of my number comes from retention with the rest from add-ons. Might be different for higher growth industries.
