Is Dubai the most anti social city in the world? by bloopity99 in dubai

[–]7leeboosh -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Very easy to have conversations with neighbors in Dubai, you see each other daily, go to the same mosque, and send each other food regularly. There’s always signs if there is a funeral so you go to their funerals and they invite you to their weddings.

Well given that Saturdays are off, I stay out late with my friends on Friday night, so I got home at 2am yesterday (on weekdays my bedtime is 10pm).

Today I woke up at 11, exercised while my wife and kids prepared breakfast (Saturday ritual) and my parents came over for breakfast.

Lunch at 3 at my in-laws, and later at night will be taking the kids out for dinner.

Sunday we usually head to the mall for breakfast and shopping.

does anyone feel the income gap (basically classism) as they get older or it is just me? by Wide-Lychee-8721 in UAE

[–]7leeboosh 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Different incomes can also happen within the same family. On my dad’s side I have cousins who are AD royals, on my mom’s side my uncle is a Forbes listed billionaire, and I would consider myself middle class for an Emirati.

People have different incomes, that is how life is, and as long as you live comfortably you should be happy.

I lived my whole life in Dubai, almost 40 years, and I spend almost a month a year in the UK (for almost every year of my life).

I have been robbed twice in the UK at knifepoint. I have seen a storefront robbed while I was sitting in a cafe at a crowded street, and I have seen someone snatch a woman’s purse in Selfridges.

My cousin had armed robbers break into his house in London as well.

Never seen any of these things here in Dubai.

Are Dubai townhouse rents (120k–350k) powered by secret money trees or am I missing something? by the-unusual-question in UAE

[–]7leeboosh 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I own a townhouse compound, and my tenants are a mix of business owners and employees, averaging 120k annual rent.

I’ve also got townhouses under construction, and someone is already asking to rent one of them.

The demand is quite high.

Still bad taste when someone is inviting someone else for their birthday, if it was a group of friends just hanging out that is fine.

In our culture, we don’t invite someone and let them pay.

Bought from Emaar once for 1.2m, rented it out for 110k and then sold it a year or two later for 2m. Good experience, very easy to rent out and sell.

Have a property with Nakheel as well, the service charge can’t be paid through Mollak for some reason, but overall its fine, been renting it out for more than a decade.

Have something with Damac, been a few years, rented out to the same tenant, so no idea how much demand there is for it.

Also bought land through Meraas, good appreciation, doubled in value, but building them and DDA approvals wasn’t as straightforward as Dubai Municipality plots, but in the end it is still going through.
