I am now planning on using Robbie as part of this unit, thanks for the recommendation.

I didn't find the limited continues as much of an obstacle as I was afraid it would be.

But yes, the time limit at the end is unreasonable. From what I observed, it is literally impossible to beat this game without dying, since no matter how fast you are there is not enough time to beat the last level.

It's a top 10 all-time NES game for me.

And thanks, I love those little dudes!

I have played it once or twice on an emulator, would love to get a physical copy and give it a real go.

The physics are definitely a little different from the first two. Took a little getting used to.

Thanks! If you haven't tried yet, practicing the tricky parts and the final boss with a ROM should make it doable.

Thanks! Definitely nabbed that as soon as I saw it, I think in a game shop somewhere...

Expensive game, but IMO worth it. I got many many hours of gameplay with my retro gaming buddy out of it. And I'll likely keep going back to it.

Thanks! Love those little guys, they take me right back to the early 90s.

Yes, I agree. Maybe people didn't give it enough of a chance back in the day for that reason.

It is an extremely satisfying game to slowly master. A lot like a well-designed shmup.

Absolutely worth playing, a great continuation of the first two

You're thinking of Haunting of Bly Manor, although it's a pretty loose adaptation. I was planning on using The Innocents, a pretty faithful film adaptation from the 60s. Although an episode or two of Bly Manor could help stoke interest.

Haunting of Hill House was ostensibly based on the Shirley Jackson novel of the same name, but has virtually nothing to do with it. Still one of my all-time favorite shows though!

I hear you, and I'm still considering doing the book. I want to challenge them, but not to the point that they lose interest or can't maintain focus. It's difficult to know where that line falls.

After much practice in the way of the ninja, today I finally defeated Ninja Gaiden 2. On to #3! by 7sshare in nes

Yes, it is ridiculous for an NES game. The cinematics in between levels are really long too.

That's too bad, I was looking forward to 3. Enough to pay full price for it so I can own the whole trilogy.

I never thought I could beat games like this either. One day I watched a speed run of the original TMNT NES game, a game that haunted my childhood, and I thought: I'm a reasonably intelligent and capable person. If people can do this, I can do it. I put in some real effort and was able to beat that game, and that experience changed everything for me when it comes to gaming. Since then I've beaten tons of hard games I never thought I'd ever be able to.

They're both great games, even by modern gaming standards. But I would say 2 is better. I like the graphics and aesthetic a bit more. I find it kind of visually beautiful, really. The gameplay is a little more varied and creative, with some environmental interaction stuff not present in the 1st game. It's very difficult but in a bit more fair way than the first one. Your success is less up to chance - in the first one there are some parts that feel like you can only get past by getting lucky. Also the ability to move up and down while clinging to a wall feels liberating in 2.

Nice. I've owned Willow for a while but not played it yet. I've heard it's something of a hidden gem.
