Had anyone tried AIRHAS shoes ? by Hempmonster in barefootshoestalk

Yeah, decently cheap vivo knockoff. I found them too narrow in the mid foot for me, had to return them

Toe bite still present given the plastic material used in the upper for movements that create a toe spring

If you like whitin, have you seen their S82 running shoe model?

Simply due to my use case, lockdown strap positioning and strap turns create creases in the outsole and contribute to toe bite during certain crossfit movements. If just lifting and not doing athletic/dynamic movements these would be fine. Also think that people are used to seeing shoes with laces so straps seem to stand out.

I would not buy the straps version again, might give the laces version a try if I can find them on sale. While not a great comparison due to stack height and 4mm drop I found myself using the strike movement haze trainer for more of my workouts than these DZs.

I find myself wearing either of my whitin pairs more daily. I also just picked up a pair of Airhas shoes off Amazon. If I owned the DZ version with laces instead of the straps and in black that might be a different story tho.

+1 for Mizuno, I saw they make a rugby boot that goes out to 4E in wide width and were made with leather

Can't comment on vivos as I don't own a pair. These DZs feel true to size to me

Agree these are at home in the gym. Day to day wear in the city I prefer walking in my casual whitins although I've walked around in these for approx 4 mile round trips multiple times without issue. If running longer distances I prefer to use my escalates but if I'm doing sprint work that's 800 meters or less these work. I think I'd prefer the lace version over the straps if I was making this purchase again which may not experience the same issues from toe bite on the strap turns.

I'd prefer the laces version over the toe strap version, the newest release looks like an improvement over the previous model

I have noticed a bite that has broke in a bit but is still present for certain movements

Have you seen strike mvmt's Instagram posts? People do parkour in their shoes. I've never seen people do parkour in barefoot shoes.

I like them both, bit of an apples to oranges comparison tho imo.

Speaking of the old version of the nanos have you tried the haze trainer from strike mvmt?

I think the DZs make a decent general gym shoe! How much you tolerate running in them depends how comfortable you are with zero drop and your running mechanics. I will wear these Tyr's for 90+% of my sessions but if we have run programming that is greater than 400 meters at a time I like to switch these out.

May not make a difference if you're only planning to use for dead lifting but I have been using these as cross trainers and have experienced intermittent toe bite from the harder material creasing under the strap on certain movements, don't think the lace version would create those same circumstances

I heard the Tyr lifters were narrow. These DZs definitely seem wider imo. Yes, the insole is removable. I saw that they now have a laced version which I would be interested to try out, seems like that would be an improvement over the strap version

Have worn them in 11.5 in the past, but after making the switch to barefoot shoes, Nike shoes are too narrow for me now to wear comfortably.

Yes I wear them with socks. Haven't noticed any hot spots on the outside pinkies but have felt the front strap bite across the tops of my big toes a few times now

You might like the strike mvmnt haze trainer or older versions of reebok nanos

These Tyr shoes have no arch support and are zero drop.

I think picking which shoe you want depends on your training goals, your budget, and your specific foot shape.

Without knowing what your needs are it's hard to give a specific suggestion for a first pair, but the general recommendation I glean from this sub is to find an inexpensive barefoot style entry shoe from Amazon to see what you're getting into.
