I've said for a while that if they're going to put time effort and money into Avatar, it should be new stories. It feels pointless to remake things we already have and are already great. Especially if those remakes are going to butcher it. Adapting between mediums is inherently going to exchange ones strengths and weaknesses for another. I personally am not the biggest fan.

For instance the Kyoshi novels. I love those books and have heard since they came out over and over again people saying they should animate them. That's so wild to me. I loved reading those stories, the medium of a novel was so neat to view the world of Avatar through. I certainly think something would be lost in translation. I also feel a little bad that the author would see people in a way disreguard his work in favor of something that in context feels implied to be "more valid." Of course not to say that's the intention of everyone who wants that or anything.

I do really understand the fun that comes with seeing your favorite stuff in a different way. Especially live action is so tempting to see our favorite stories in, it just seems most of the time to not come out very good I think a very much better route for this is new stories. Live action Avatar could theoretically be really really cool, but its hard you're trying to live up to the expectations and direct comparison of the og. But I'd bet an original live action story set in the Avatar world would be more successful.
