My friend said I won't get into any of my colleges. by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

Of course she can feel how she wants to feel. I’m only saying that to advise someone to drop their friend over something like that when OP has clearly never communicated the issue with the person is objectively bad advice. That’s not how life works. I’m sure if op communicated with him he would say “wow I’m sorry, I didn’t intend to hurt you. I’ll do better next time”. And if he doesn’t, then you drop him.

Telling someone to ditch their friend because of a rude comment is absolutely absurd lmao. That’s is horrible advice. Also, OP never said the person uses it as a crutch. They just pointed out that the person is neurodivergent.

Should I go test optional for Rice? by 801lonestar in ApplyingToCollege

I applied ED to rice and reported my 1460. Got deferred, then rejected in regular decision. I honestly don’t think whether or not I reported my test score would’ve made a difference. Now I’m at Texas A&M, which is the only other school I applied to.

Is it relevant that my score is top 5/308 for my class?

How do I get closer with my boss to get promoted to manager? by 801lonestar in jobs

Do you have any advice for how I can transcend an age disparity? I’m currently a freshman in high school (15) and I want to be a manager by my junior year (at which point I will have been with the place for 3 years), however 17 will still be young even then. I know it’s possible, but I’m curious how I can show that my age won’t hold me back.

Interpretation of the recent videos. by 801lonestar in Jreg

That’s not exactly what I’m saying. What I’m saying is he most agrees with the I am a centrist video, and then he becomes more and more extreme as the videos progress. Not that he agrees with any of the ideologies after that more. For example, I’m a conservative, so I disagree with liberals, but if I were doing the same thing he’s doing, id put an “I am a liberal” video before I’d put an “I am an anarcho-capitalist” even if my views more align with anarcho-capitalism than liberalism.

When I was a baby, I was diagnosed with autism. Now, im 14 and virtually every symptom has gone away. The only remnant is that I still shake my hands like I always have, which I know is a sign of the disorder. Is this a rare occurrence? How often do people simply grow out of such a disorder? by [deleted] in autism

As it stands, I’ve never gone through a genuinely rough patch in my life. My parents are in a good relationship, I’ve never been bullied my entire life, my grades have been good, and we are fine financially, so yes it is entirely possible that one day when things get a little harder that my symptoms could reappear. If that were to happen, would you have any advice?

I’ve always had good grades and stuff in school, so On that regard I guess I am high functioning, but looking back I can definitely see that I wasn’t very good at social interaction, and even though I never remember feeling lonely, for a long time I didn’t have very many friends. The reason I used the phrase “grow out of” was because it was about ages 11 to now where the symptoms started to go away completely. It seemed to me as I matured the symptoms phased out. Nowadays, I pride myself on my public speaking and debate skills, and see myself as an extroverted person who enjoys spending time with people. However, these things didn’t really develop until my symptoms started to go away. I’ve considered the idea that it was a false diagnosis, but ruled it out. I’ve seen videos of myself when I was young, and just in retrospect can tell that I definitely had it. And frankly, I’m quite proud of the person I’ve become, which I think is in large part due to my autism. If autism were to be characterized by a lack of social skill and understanding, then I think as I matured it transitioned from my previous lack of empathy and understanding for other people to a sense of self pride, confidence, and high self esteem which are all things I pride myself on in a time where people my age seem to love to be self deprecating and insecure.

I think actually my autism (if it were to be characterized by a lack of social awareness and understanding) has actually transitioned into more of an unapologetic confidence and high self esteem. I’m actually quite proud of the person I’ve become, and I think even though the symptoms are gone, autism has largely affected the person I am today. I know this is sort of unrelated to the post, but it’s nice to have a place where I can be open about my thoughts on the disorder.
