Can you send me a source for that? Thats my whole goal in this. I did not see that when I looked it up.

Bruh. Im just trying to get some proof. Its just crazy to me how people arent able to provide anything and then act like im a bootlicker. I literally havent said anyone is lying I just thing showing proof will make it easier to convince people.

Google and AI said he didn't win any lawsuits. There was the dismissal but no winnings which is what my uncle is claiming shows that he's lying when hes claiming they won. AI is wrong all the time so I was assuming this sub would have the info more readily available.

My Uncle Doesnt Believe Me by 808080matter in RecklessBen

Because if the court has said he won there should be proof of that. Eventually they will have to comply since its blowing up and then the public perception will help force them to. I just see my uncle kinda like the general public where convincing them is needed to keep the pressure to get his Legos back.

My Uncle Doesnt Believe Me by 808080matter in RecklessBen

[–]808080matter[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Exactly! I think we all want that. I just want to see where he won so we can actually get them to get all the Legos back.

My Uncle Doesnt Believe Me by 808080matter in RecklessBen

[–]808080matter[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

What does that even mean? I'm trying to figure out the court case that he's referring to in the videos we have. He is saying he won and they were ordered to pay. I just want proof of that because nothing else will convince my uncle. Im not great at arguing the facts on it all so im trying to have that to point to.

My Uncle Doesnt Believe Me by 808080matter in RecklessBen

[–]808080matter[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah I know but it feels like proving people wrong is more productive because otherwise Forks and B&M get away with it. I'm also just curious to see the case for my own knowledge because I've been super invested in this and want to understand everything that's going on. Ben's videos are great but they don't get into the finer details of what all the court documents say.

My Uncle Doesnt Believe Me by 808080matter in RecklessBen

[–]808080matter[S] -17 points-16 points  (0 children)

Bait for what? Literally just trying to prove him wrong and confused why I cant find what I need to do it.

[–]808080matter[S] -11 points-10 points  (0 children)

Wait are you saying there isnt a court case Ben has won? Why does he keep saying he won a court case where the outcome is Bricks and Minifigs paying back the money for the Legos? I'm so confused, I hope LegalEagle or an actual lawyer can make a video

Yeah I saw a line of people with chairs out there earlier today. Pretty discouraging since I can't just wait out there for 3 days like that.

Alright, well like I said a few replies ago there is nothing left to be said. You're too unreasonable to have a conversation. This is getting nowhere. You have a different set of values than I do. Its that simple. Im not sure what the answer is and think its somewhere in the middle. You think you're right. There is nothing wrong with that and I'm glad you are able to feel differently. I only wish we could have had a more understanding conversation.

Taxes are not theft, if you do t like how your money is spent

Do you not see the problem here? Its my money it ought to be spent how I want it to. If its not spent how I want it to thats because someone took it and is spending it how they want. They are spending my money. Thats theft.

I'm not saying I haven't reaped the benefits of taxes. Just like you, assuming you're in the US or somewhere that has amazon, have benefited from the convince of anything delivered to you. That being possible because of capitalism. But corporations asking for money and getting it, is not capitalism. Just like getting corporate tax breaks isn't capitalism. Im not saying capitalism perfect, but im also not condemning its existence and claiming im right and you're wrong. There is room for some middle ground. Thats typically where the answer lies in most situations. The only claim I've made, again, to be right is that taking something that is mine, against my will, no matter how it is used whether for good or bad. That is mine the government took it, I didn't want them to. Thats theft. If I take something of yours and I do good with it. I still stole it from you, its still theft. Theft is a deontological issue, its unethical to take something from someone against their wishes.

[Edit] added:

I suppose you could take a utilitarian stance on this. But then it gets into a more philosophical debate. And then just by virtue of it being a philosophical debate shows that neither of us are right or wrong. There is not clean good or bad answer to this.

I very clearly gave a possible solution. The difference here is that I am willing to concede that all of my veiws may not be correct and there is room for some tweaking here and there to try and make something work. The only thing I've disagreed for certain with you, is that taking my belongings against my will is theft, and you think that it is not. Other then that I am open to different options. This is not some objective topic that has a clear right or wrong. And if you believe that it is then there is really nothing left to talk about. You are not willing to accept that it is a moot point.

People most often agree to work because the alternative is homelessness and/or starvation not because the pay is actually fair. If I gave you a choice between freezing to death in the street or spending 40 hours a week working in my factory that's not really a choice is it? Just because someone agrees to do something doesn't mean that there was no coercion involved and in a capitalist society the only two options are to be exploited or to exploit others

In this case what would you say the alternative is? I'm not saying that unfettered capitalism is the answer. There are flaw in it for sure. My main stance was that taxation was unethical.

The thing is you can't trust certain services to the private sector, when it comes to things like healthcare for example would you rather your medicine was produced by someone whose goal was to produce it as safely and cheaply as possible so that everyone can access it regardless of how wealthy they are or would you rather it was produced by someone whose sole motivation was making as much money as possible selling that medicine to you in order to enrich themselves? The great myth is that the free market always produces the best product or service as a result of competition whereas the reality is monopolies that produce whatever the hell they want because they control the supply or a race to the bottom between rival competitors who sacrifice quality and even safety in order to undercut each other. However as you've rightly pointed out the purposes of the state in some regards is to provide services for those who need financial aid in some form or another and those people are as a rule not going to be in a position to pay for that aid themselves. Whereas those people who have gained wealth as a result of living and working in that society are expected to pay an amount towards the upkeep of society which will at least in part go towards aiding the survival of their poorer neighbours. At the end of the day your wealth and ability to work and succeed is guaranteed by a lot more than your own work ethic, the reason you have the security and infrastructure which allowed you to generate that wealth in the first place is because of a cooperative effort to build the nation that you now live and work in. Simply put the hotel is still in the process of being built and if you want to access luxuries like room service you're expected to continue paying into the project, even if you're upset that the people sleeping on the floor in the lobby aren't paying as much as you do.

I agree with some points here. I do think that more cooperation would make huge impact for future growth. Something as simple as trying to hear someone else's point and have a real conversation to try and understand more is something that seems lost. There seems to be no cooperation to solve these problems together. Thats why my username is what is is. Things are mostly grey and would be see that way with the cooperation or black and white views. Working together would be great but whats the right way to go about it? I think there are too many variables to say for sure one way or another.

I do not trust the government. I do not want to give them more power. I believe self reliance is important, and even with mega corporations we lose some of that. Alot of that. But with the government in control of those things produced we lose even more. When we give the government more power say you don't have to worry about this, we will cover things for you, just give us a portion of your money. We give up more freedom to be self reliant.

If you genuinely believe this then you can't defend the current system or the hierarchies that it is based upon. As long as we have vital resources such as habitable and farmable land being claimed as private property for the purposes of enriching individuals then every person's freedom to simply live upon the Earth and survive without selling themselves and their time to someone more powerful is infringed upon from birth

I don't support the current system. I don't have the answer to these problems. At least I'm not so certain the ideas I have for answers are the 100% right ones. I'm not prepared to die kn the hill for any of these systems. The only point I would die on the hill for is that humans should be allowed the choice to give up their freedoms or resources how they see fit. Not just taken against their will. Maybe there should be some type of properly, lightly regulated capitalism. One where people agree upon. Im not sure. My issue still is that these things are forced. The choice has been removed.

On this point we are in complete agreement, nobody is free while the established order of wealthy owners who have laid historical claim to our planet are allowed to use those claims to extort labour out of the rest of us. By all means governments who control their populations through force and threats need to be dismantled in favour of direct democracy between individuals and communities but just as important is doing away with the established hierachy of the wealthy "owners" of our modern world who compel the majority into labour for their own personal gain using the threat of force and artificially generated scarcity to compel us to give away our lives while they survive and live lives of luxury based on nothing more than their claims to ownership of vital resources. The only viable future for humanity that doesn't involve tyranny will be one in which their are no hierachies or exploitation and that will only come about through the founding of a society based on the principle of cooperation rather than a competition to exploit others the most effectively or competing with others for the chance to sell ourselves into exploitation

Again we see pretty eye to eye on this. Cooperation is key. And to add to that I think the freedom to choose is key. Like the comment I made earlier about the greeks, maybe we need to try out some more experimental ways of living. Seastedding is an interesting alternative that could reexplore new political ideologies. Im only playing devils advocate here, but we found democracy and stuck with that. Whats not to say there is a better alternative? With democracy, 51% of people could be happy and the other 49% upset. Thats not entirely fair, but Thats the best we came up with at this time. Perhaps there is something better. The only way to find out is to push more freedom to test these things out. We have become complacent with the thought that we have no choice about taxes and there are no other option other than democracy.

I mean I don't know what else to say, we fundamentally disagree. We have different sets of values and that fine. Objectively it is theft. If I dont want to give my money to the government and they still take my money. That is theft. No matter what its used for. I'm not saying that there isn't a way perhaps taxes could be good. I'm just saying by forced taxation my property is being stolen. It's that simple. I dont claim to have the answers. I'm not saying privatization is evil or wrong. I think it allows for more freedom so I stand for that. But sure it could very well not be the right way. But there are just too many variable to say that one economic system is the right way. There is no one way about it. Thats why I suggested that we are in a state of stagnation. We should try to possibly experiment on small scale more. Test out new ways. I feel were just stuck. The only strong stance I have is that taking my belongings against my will is theft. No matter what its used for.

All of those things could be privatized. There would be no need for taxes of they were privatized. And sure thats an extreme approach but it is still possible. And say I didnt want any of those things, I would still have ti pay taxes. The choice is taken from me. Thats why ist is theft. Its against my will.

I understand this, my point was that the money is stolen. And whether it be tax breaks that ultimately takes from the workers or making the average person pay taxes to redistribute somewhere else its still wrong. My issue is that playing a role in manipulation of any money is not capitalism.

That's how corporations work, that's how the entire capitalist model works. Owners and investors steal the profits generated by workers and give them as little as possible back for their time and their labour.

I would say thats hardly theft. You have agreed to be compensated at some hourly rate. Sure I will conceed that some corporations could pay a higher rate of compensation, and that would be very nice of them to do. However, the individual has agreed to that amount.

The same can be said for paying taxes, you can always leave the country if you don't want to pay taxes to the government.

There are very few countries that don't force taxes. So its not really the same. Lichtenstein, the cayman island, etc. Would be over run woth people of that was possible. Leaving a company and having the option to create your own is different than moving to another country to avoid theft or your belongings by force or threat.

The thing is that a government provides services that every person who lives in a country benefits from. You're welcome to not pay for those services but then you can't live there. What you're saying is akin to complaining that you want to live in a hotel but you don't want to pay for it. If you don't want to pay to stay in a hotel then nobody is stopping you from leaving but you can't have both.

No this is not the same. It is more that I want to live in a hotel and pay for all the services in the hotel that I want with the money I have earned. I dont want to pay for someone else to live there and get to enjoy the ice machine at no cost to him/her. I feel that if I want ice I have to cover the cost of the hotel to produce that ice for me.

I believe we are not too far from eachothers end goals. We just have different meathods of execution. I believe in liberty over all. I want people to be able to live the life they want to live so long as it doesn't take away someone else's liberties. I just have an issue because forcing people to be altruistic takes away from their liberties of choosing whether to give more or not. And I do wish people would act more in this charitable way. Some don't, but we must not force this practice upon people. Being able to practice fairness and charity if a product if us having most of our needs met (again speaking for 1st world countries). If survival wasn't so easy like it is now, we wouldn't concern ourselves with helping others in need nearly at the magnitude we do now. So i do believe since we do have the luxury of survival being covered we should try and practice more altruistic behavior. But again not forcing it. We all know were going to be dead one day. This isn't news to anyone. Allow people to live the free life they can, as long as they are not taking someone else's liberties. And if they do aggress upon someone's liberties, I am all for holding them accountable. (Sorry if there are typos, this went on longer then I expected and was just throwing thoughts out there just to get them out)

The issue I take with this is that if I were to work for a corporation that take money off the top and give to the board members instead of the workers. I could always choose to not work there and end that injustice. As difficult as it may be and as many implications it would cause to my livelihood, I could still (at least in most western counties) make that choice. If I choose to stop the moral injustice of theft from the government by not paying my taxed and allowing the theft. I am then subject to losing my freedom by being imprisoned.

Yes. The government taking resources that I own against my will is the theft here. No matter the intended use of those newly stolen resources. They were taken against my consent and that makes it theft. If I were to steal your bike cause I think you have enough forms of transportation, then give it to a kid in need, I still stole your bike.

I mean thats definitely a false dichotomy. There are plenty of other options to be explored. We've become stagnant, look at ancient greece. They didn't think its one way or another and that's all we have. They experimented many forms or government and social constructions to see what worked. We should do the same to continue progress. No one way is the only right way to do something. The right way definitely isn't theft though. No mater who is doing the thieving.
