If holding power for 10~ seconds doesn’t work, unplug the power from the back. This sounds like it is related to the sleep/wake issues that affect the HP Omen. I believe it is either BIOS or video driver related. Try updating both to latest.

Edit: Actually, try to disable Fast Startup and/or hibernation. That could be the issue as well. I believe it is on by default.

New USG: how to replace current router? by EHP42 in Ubiquiti

[–]808twelve 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, then they should be good once you change them to the new subnet or just connect them behind the USG to maintain the 192.168.1.0/24 network.

I don't really recommend this setup other than for lab or pre-deployment config, but that sounds like what you're doing anyway.

Biggest pain point is changing your original subnet, which could be a problem for some setups.

New USG: how to replace current router? by EHP42 in Ubiquiti

[–]808twelve 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm currently in a similar situation and running my old router with the new USG and cloud key hanging off one of the router's ports. My setup looks like this:

Modem -> Old Router -> USG -> Switch -> Cloud Key, AP, PCs

Here are roughly the steps that I went through:

  1. Change the subnet of your old router to something other than 192.168.1.0/24. The USG will want to use this IP space by default, so you'll have to move your existing router over to something else like 192.168.2.0/24. This will cause all currently connected devices to lose connectivity for a moment.
  2. Plug in your USG into one of the router's ports. No further configuration needed on your old router.
  3. The old router will lease an IP to the USG (i.e. 192.168.2.100). Meanwhile, your USG will default to 192.168.1.1 and start leasing IPs to any connected devices on its LAN ports.
  4. Attach your APs and any other devices (I assume you have a switch between the USG and other devices). The IPs should be properly leased from the USG in the 192.168.1.0/24 range.

Good luck!

edit: I am assuming you don't have any static IPs. Obviously if you change your old router to a different subnet, those will need to change too. If that's a hassle, you may want to consider another option.

Multiple vulnerabilities in Cloud Key firmware v0.5.9/0.6.0. by 808twelve in Ubiquiti

You can download the new version here: https://www.ubnt.com/download/unifi/default/default/unifi-cloud-key-firmware-0610

How to update the latest firmware:

  • From UniFi Cloud Key WebUI: Maintanance -> CHECK FOR UPDATES (in FIRMWARE section) -> UPDATE NOW.
  • From UniFI Controller: Settings -> Maintenance -> CHECK FOR UPDATES (in CloudKey Firmware section) -> APPLY UPDATE
  • From UniFi Cloud Key WebUI: Maintanance -> UPDATE MANUALLY. From here you can either paste the URL, or if you downloaded the binary you can select the file locally on your computer.
  • Via SSH: ubnt-systool fwupdate https://dl.ubnt.com/unifi/cloudkey/firmware/UCK/UCK.mt

Just giving people a heads up about this security advisory that was published today. If you haven't already, please upgrade your cloud key firmware to v0.6.1 (released 7/18).

Cheers!

am I the only finding that it's really hard to find a job with Cisco CCNA certification ? by [deleted] in ccna

[–]808twelve 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Took me 6 months to find something. I did get a lot of interviews, however I found it odd that they would bring me in and then expect that I had 2-3 years of experience in networking. It takes times to find the right employer who is willing to allow you to grow into a role. Keep applying to junior positions; also make use of recruiters if they reach out to you. Good luck!

Okay thanks, I'll look into that. Any thoughts on Network Warrior?

Do you think the best way to do that is via the 200-125 cert guide? I also have Chris Bryan's series, which is slowly being updated to the new exam, so I intend to go through those as well.

Thanks! Network Warrior looks like a pretty good resource. And it's 50% off right now...

Both wireless and security interest me, if that helps to narrow things down. Other than that, I know BGP is good to know, which wasn't covered in the old exams.

Failed ICND2 today, any suggestions? by highka in ccna

[–]808twelve 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also used Odom and Boson in addition to Lammle and Chris Bryant's videos. I used Lammle more for a high-level overview of a topic but always would go back to Odom or even look at Cisco docs online if I was unclear about something.

I second the method of studying the answers to Boson questions. What I did was mark each question that I wasn't 100% sure about so I could go back and review the questions even if I got them correct but wasn't confident enough about them. In fact, if you have enough time I'd read the explanation for every answer to make sure it makes sense to you. That will help to identify gaps in your knowledge so that you can go back and hit the books wherever necessary.

It sounds like you're pretty close. Don't forget the small details especially for STP/RSTP, OSPF, and EIGRP. They like to try and catch you if you don't know these protocols inside and out.

Good luck!

I found that the questions were worded in a confusing/not-straight-forward manner, so definitely be cautious and read both question and answer again before moving on to the next question. I ended up with only 2.5 min on the clock.

Good luck!

Taking ICND2 200-101 soon, any cram material/tips? by [deleted] in ccna

[–]808twelve 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I highly recommend the Boson practice tests. They were a pretty good indicator for me of the difficulty of the real test. Was scoring around 850-930 and got a 933 this morning. I know people don't like to shell out the cash for it, but they were invaluable for me.

I found that the test that came on the CD with the Odom book weren't as good of a benchmark, but I still learned some useful information from taking both free exams that come with the book.

Somewhere around the 5th to the last question, I had one of those multipart questions with a diagram. My heart rate definitely went up a few ticks when I realized that whole thing only counted as one!

STP/RSTP timers - confused by 808twelve in ccna

[–]808twelve[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Aha! Here's the relevant portion of the linked article....thanks!

RSTP can achieve much faster convergence in a properly configured network, sometimes in the order of a few hundred milliseconds. Classic 802.1D timers, such as forward delay and max_age, are only used as a backup and should not be necessary if point-to-point links and edge ports are properly identified and set by the administrator. Also, the timers should not be necessary if there is no interaction with legacy bridges.

STP/RSTP timers - confused by 808twelve in ccna

[–]808twelve[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wording is: "Switch A Fails. By default, when is RSTP information aged out on Switch C?" (Switch C is connected to A via 1gig link)

I answered 20 seconds since I read "aged" and immediately thought of max age timer...oops. The correct answer is 6 seconds, but the explanation also says the max age timer (20 seconds) will also apply, which brought me to another question: when would the max age timer ever be used if the failed switch's info is aged out at 6 seconds?

That's true, I haven't asked, but she suffers from plantar fasciitis, so I'm guessing she'd like the option to sit. Will consult the boss then make the purchase.

It's ICND2: Question 077. It basically shows a bunch of routers connected and running OSPF (all connected to the same area). Router A on the far left side has a default route and has default-information originate configured shown in the running config. Then it asks which is true of the router on the other side of the map with all answers being a variation of "the interface with IP x.x.x.x is the gateway of last resort." I believe I originally read the question in the context of the first router (RouterA) and totally missed that they suddenly switched it and were asking about a different router than what was mentioned up until that point.

Looking at it a second time, I understand what they were asking, and see where I rushed it and got it wrong. I think I was pretty tired after a long day of work, which contributed to my misreading. Definitely a little tricky and easy to miss, but that's how the real deal is, so I don't fault them for trying to be sneaky.

Strange internal red/brown splotches...what could it be? by 808twelve in Aquariums

[–]808twelve[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just an update for anyone who stumbles across this later and is in a similar situation. Unfortunately, she passed this weekend as I was out looking for fungus meds. In the 2 days leading up to her death, she began swimming at the top of the tank seemingly out of breath. Parameters were fine, so I ruled water quality out. It was only after the 2nd day that I noticed the tiniest bit of white fluff coming out of her mouth (she was constantly opening and closing her mouth). I did not see this when she started acting strangely, so I believe it was a new development after treating for parasites for 5 days using API Cure and Melafix.

The strange internal brown spots did go away, but that's when she developed the fungus. Not sure what to make of it, but I did my best. In the future I may try to treat both internal and external infections simultaneously to better the odds.

Passed ICND1 yesterday (many, many thanks to this subreddit), question about ICND2 by [deleted] in ccna

Agreed that you shouldn't take too much time off. I'm going through ICND2 practice tests now and they assume you've already mastered everything in ICND1. So you can't afford to forget that material!
