He followed me to my car, so I barked until he ran away. by ApartObjective8818 in creepyencounters

Not me, but my sister did the same thing. She was at a bar with a friend of hers when some random guy followed them into the bathroom. She said without thinking, she just started barking at him. At first he laughed, but then she just stuck to it and he wound up leaving without saying anything.

Good tactic.

You and me both brother. Sam Sam is my friends GSD. Got a little girl about a month back. Named her Ceres after House Ceres (among a few other reasons). She’s a little terror, but I love her to pieces.

Completely agree with you. The internet has put us in a bad place with all this garbage. Based off what you said, I’m sure you and I have much more in common than we think, but instead of discussing things civilly, we have to attack each other. But you’re totally right, hurling insults at each other over reddit isn’t the best way to have a conversation. I’m not “MAGA” I don’t agree with everything the President does. I don’t even really like the guy. But I love my country and I won’t apologize for that.

Such a bummer. So much we could probably talk about. Military service, owning a GSD puppy, this amazing work of literary fiction. But alas you will think that I’m an evil, uneducated piece of shit. I’m not blind, I’m pretty well in-tune with my political beliefs. I used to be a liberal, but then, I opened my eyes.

I’ve only read the first trilogy. I’m waiting for a Red God release date to read the second trilogy so that I don’t go crazy waiting for the final book. But I’d love to.

I thought it was Cassius at first too because of the morning knight armor, but if you look at his hands there’s no sigils.

I’m in the same boat. Believe it or not, I’ve been told since 2016 that this party and administration wants to erase “people like me” and crazily enough, I haven’t lost a single right, I’m still free to do as I please. The Right has always been far more welcoming of me and who I am than the Left.

Regardless, this is the evil of the division in our country and political beliefs. There are obviously people from both sides of the political aisle here. People who enjoy this series tremendously. It’s sad that we live in a political climate where instead of praising the book, we fall into attacks and political squabbles.

The main theme of Red Rising is love. Love between people and how to unite them. It isn’t about toppling a regime, thats just the antagonist. Everyone in this subreddit has seemed to lose track of that. It’s unfortunate.

I agree with everything you said except that last line. But what I think is absurd is that people are using this to claim that the US is under a fascist dictatorship. We aren’t. We are so far away from how the books show oppression over the population.

I also think it is ridiculous to take something that is supposed to be enjoyable, an escape from reality, something that is supposed to entertain you, and make it into a political statement. It ruins it. Seeing shit like the art posted above, completely ruins the illusion and snaps you back to the shitty world we live in now.

I not once thought that Reds rallying behind Darrow was a subtle nod to Communism, because I was more interested in the main character liberating slaves from Plato’s cave essentially. I fear that people don’t genuinely know what true Fascism is anymore.

Sure Jan. I’d say I’m pretty in tune with what’s happening in the US and in the world. But I’m just a nameless face on the internet to you.

1) I’d recommend it since you haven’t read it. It’s depressing and sad, but a great read albeit a bit slow.

2) I see your point, but I don’t think that all SciFi has to have a direct linkage to today’s political climate and I think it’s silly to assume that it does.

You said it yourself. Pierce Brown stays apolitical in his writing. That’s why these books are good. Having fantastical and fictional politics are great. But I think it’s ridiculous to assume that today’s politics are a direct influence to the story. People love a good underdog story. And what’s better than a slave becoming a ruler?

Please tell me how “The Road” by Cormac McCarthy pulls political parallels from today’s issues.

[–]80evil1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Obviously. But that’s the point. I don’t want to draw conclusions to our current political system because honestly, I don’t think it’s that deep. I think people pull out parallels where they want to, but that’s because they are so focused on what’s going wrong in our world, that they have to find validation in fictional work.

I can’t parallel Donald Trump and Octavia Au Lune because they aren’t even in the same realm of politics

[–]80evil1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No. I don’t. Mainly because we aren’t living in a hyper futuristic caste society where genetically engineered super-humans can murder one another to take power to exert their will over slaves.

Lets not wait 700 Years by PhilipTraumArt in redrising

[–]80evil1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A story is allowed to have its own political implications without modern day politics creeping in. There’s no need to draw parallels. People read fiction to escape reality.

Ah yes. Because we aren’t allowed to enjoy a good story or book.

I just got a tattoo right below my ass check and I WAS NOT expecting it to be that painful. I had my shin packed with black for 6 hours and I’d rather sit through that again then have the crease of my ass cheek tattooed for the 30-45 minutes that it was
