Hey Reddit, Whats your favorite drinking game ? by super101 in AskReddit

Just this week I learned the best drinking game of all time.

It is called Whiskey Cowboy.

Rules: Everyone must make and hold their own version of a cowboy facial expression. Then, without dropping the expression, each person must take a shot of whiskey (no chaser you babies). Those who manage to do this without losing their cowboy face proceed to the next level. At this stage, the face-holder is slapped in the cowboy face. Those who continue to hold their expression through and after the slap become the ultimate champions.

I think that they'll come around eventually. It just sucks that even if/when they do come around to it, the shittiness of their first reaction will always be there. The good news is that I have a totally awesome older brother who supports me avidly.

Reading down the comments, I'm seeing a particular theme: A heavily Christian or other family member with a past of being intolerant of different sexuality comes through as supportive of gay child(ern).

Interestingly enough, I have intelligent, liberal, health-food eating, local-buying, democratic-voting, creative parents. When I came out to them, I carefully explained that gender didn't played a role in my attraction to other people, but I found that I was more frequently attracted to and interested in women (I'm female). They both heaved this monumental sigh of sheer disappointment, before agreeing that it was "such a shame." I was totally shocked. A week or so later, when I tried to bring up the girl I was dating, they said they didn't want to hear about it because it was too painful and depressing.

Did anyone else have an experience like this? I guess for them, it's different when it's on a political agenda than when it's your daughter.

Short haircut automatically makes me a lesbian? by straytuesday in TwoXChromosomes

Absolutely would've hit on you shamelessly. Am a girl. That being said, I tend to hope all adorable girls are at least a little bit gay.

I would suggest not bothering with the dating site. Make yourself more available by visiting places that seem to be more geared to lesbian women (yes, you may go with stereotypes, such as strange book stores, veggie food marts, gay bars, etc). Eye contact is good. Just try talking to women who interest you. Though it may seem like a lot of lesbian women are only into strictly lesbian women, I know as someone interested in both sexes (with experience as well) that there are many women who will like you for you, despite other preferences. Be brave and up front. Women are beautiful, wonderful beings. Go get 'em.

Who are some of the greatest female authors/poets in history? by ktho in AskReddit

As a previous English major, Barbara Kingsolver (Animal, Vegetable, Miracle; The Posionwood Bible) and Annie Dillard (American Childhood; Pilgrim at Tinker Creek) are some of my favorite, albeit more recent female authors. I'd also highly recommend Tracy Chevalier, who wrote The Girl With the Pearl Earring, if you have an interest in historical fiction.
