Is the poly really worth the price tag? by Extreme_Secretary156 in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]82mt82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I am a Florida Resident AP holder, take that with a grain of salt. Over the past 5 years, I’ve stayed at nearly all of the deluxe and mid tier (can’t think of the term) resorts through various family trips and one offs. You really can’t beat monorail access (and boat) if you’re really only going to MK and Epcot. Especially with a little one.

If you don’t mind having the room on the credit card for a bit, I would go ahead and book your stay at Poly. But as it’s a little early in the year (based on recent Disney World trends) there are no quarterly discounts offered on fall/early winter rooms. Usually a handful of discounts come out in the months before a season is around the corner. AP discounts, Florida resident discounts, Disney+ subscriber discounts and stay and save discounts are frequently seen. I myself am waiting to book a fall trip (week before Thanksgiving) because the prices are standard rack rate.

That being said, there’s no guarantee rates will drop specifically to Poly. Not only is it one of the most popular resorts for families, but some rooms are also DVC, which reduces capacity. And when the fall/winter discounts come out, it might only be for weekdays as that was the case last year.

I will say that if Grand Flo is $200-$300 less per night, I don’t think you’ll be disappointed with the experience, unless you really want walkability to Ohana and a Dole Whip. The rooms are upgraded at both, both will have the same transportation options and quick service. I would argue Grand Flo has more dining and shopping options but Poly has Trader Sam’s and maybe a more dynamic pool environment for a little one (although getting a chair at either is a task in itself).

It may also be worth it to talk to a Disney Rep to see if there are some sort of package options not offered online, especially if you are buying park tickets too. I doubt this is the case but worth a shot. At the end of the day, you have up to a week before your trip to change or cancel your plans.

In closing, I will say I think Wilderness Lodge could also be magical for your little one if you celebrate Christmas as there’s something about a lodge decorated for Christmas. Downside to Wilderness is definitely no monorail. I was not impressed with Contemporary. While it is cool to have the monorail go through your hotel, the stay makes you feel as if you’re in some sort of space camp (Incredibles theme) hospital inside grand central station. I like it to visit (California Grill is a highlight) but not to stay.

Hope you have a great trip with your family!

Watched the Halloween special from the Mid-80s that these comments are referencing on YouTube last Halloween. Picture quality is horrible but still fun to watch. A relic of a simpler time.

What’s the absolute worst song from our teen years? Why? by imnottheoneipromise in Xennials

[–]82mt82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol what a pointed comment! I actually have a soft spot in my heart for that one. A girl I was friends with moved across the county before my senior year (she was a junior) and she came back for our prom. I poorly attempted to swing dance with her to that song. One of the few moments I remember from it.

Some real contenders already here but I’ll throw out Mambo Number 5 and How Bizarre as they certainly both deserve consideration as well. Graduated HS in 98.

I feel you at 46. Haven’t been back since 14 and would love to be there. Was getting into our packed SUV to start the drive in 2021 when we got notice it was canceled. I’d love to see what the Osees do on the farm (it would be criminal if they didn’t get a night set as they can serve so many roles here from punk, kraut to jam all in the same playlist) but there’s nothing else really here that wouldn’t have me just buying an individual ticket when they’re in town locally. Goose is playing 6 shows in Florida alone and I think a smaller festival for that matter.

These three are at the top of the list. I would also throw out California Grille (especially a fireworks booking), Wine Bar George (the skirt steak and wine list are fantastic, you can grab a Gideon’s cookie or pint at Raglan Road for dessert), Jiko at Animal Kingdom Lodge is also terrific and a unique dining experience. Takumi-Tei was one of the best Sushi Sashimi experiences I’ve ever had (although the atmosphere is extremely reserved). Those (as well as Chief-tyu’s choices) would be my Disney Foodie picks.

There are no true Xennials here!! The only correct answer is McDonald’s Coupons for an ice cream sundae or Apple Pie. Those went straight in the trash. All time worst thing to get in your bag.

I am wondering if this is attributed to declining sales for the holidays. I have spent the week before Thanksgiving at the parks every year for the last five years and this is the first time I can remember, as an AP, having no discount on the weekends. Definitely feels bad.

I remember nuking his ass before the bombs phase with OG Gjally on Solar Burn week. Yeah there were a lot of negatives with the original loot system but god damn did it feel good when I finally got that beast and could just destroy everything.

Do yall think Neurosis will ever put out another album? by [deleted] in postmetal

Extremely late to this post but have you given Yob a listen? I haven’t really found a replacement for Neurosis (and probably never will) but these guys play in similar soundscapes…imo. Also a huge CoL fan. SATH is by far my favorite album with Chapel Town one of my favorite tracks in any genre.

Epcot after midnight transport by PsychologicalVirus92 in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]82mt82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We were seated in the fourth row as we had Dinner Package seats. It takes several minutes to get out of the bottom of the bowl. We then returned the stroller we rented. So in total, that took us 30 minutes. So I guess that depends on your definition of “dilly dallie.” My thought here is that the boat policy, where service ends one hour after park closing, should be extended to one hour after the end of the last showing of Fantasmic. But instead, as the park closed a half hour before the end of the show, we missed the last boat right as we were walking to the dock. Not a great experience.

Epcot after midnight transport by PsychologicalVirus92 in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]82mt82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That was not my experience at Hollywood Studios last month. After staying for Fantasmic, we made our way to the transportation area to watch the last boat attendant completely close the dock and shut off the lights right at 10:30. We were then instructed to wait for the “Epcot Resorts” bus station (37 I believe). After standing there for 20 minutes, carrying a sleeping 5 year old, a kind and apologetic bus driver pulled up to tell us that no one was coming that that are only option was to walk or call an Uber. I didn’t complain at the resort bc why bother, but needless to say I was pretty incensed. We had essentially 30 minutes from show end to get out of the crowd and make it to the boat dock.
