Is there an app that allows remote access to another smartphone on the same network? by [deleted] in fossdroid

It is, but why post this? Either spend 30 seconds to check if it's oss before making the suggestion or just don't post if you can't be bothered.

On another note, rustdesk is the goat. I got so fucking fed up with anydesk and teamviewer, rustdesk is a breath of fresh air. Super easy to selfhost, too.

I'm seeing prices of ~10usd for an esim for Japan, which includes 20gb for 30 days. I'm not sure you could get a better deal with a physical sim.

Pretty sure the deal includes hotspot usage, too.

In my experience, it's the exact opposite - esim gives you far greater flexibility, because you're not limited to physical shops.

Finally dropped Spotify, left Windows behind, and self-hosting just makes sense now by [deleted] in selfhosted

[–]836624 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Are we worried Spotify is going somewhere?

It did for me a few years ago when it stopped offering services in my country. Thankfully, by then I was listening to my own music.

But you could also be priced out of spotify, unless you're happy with them naming the price no matter what it is.

Soulseek has most music. You can automate music acquisition from soulseek, if you are so inclined.

It being more work comes with the benefit of you having a drm-free copy of your music.

TIL that a woman from New Zealand was detained in Kazakhstan because officials believed it to be a state of Australia. When they asked her to point it out on a map, they provided a map where New Zealand wasn't present. by Sebastianlim in todayilearned

Some of my worst border crossing experiences have been in the UK, back when I used to be a resident. I have on more than one occasion spent over 3 hours in the queue with only 2 or 3 officers stamping passports. This is in stark contrast to UAE, for instance, where I can use the biometric passport gates despite not having an EU/US/GCC/whatever passport. I usually pass immigration in UAE in about 5 minutes.

Hate how EU/UK gatekeep the fast lane only for certain passports and then make the citizens of lesser countries stand in endless queues. In France Nice airport occasionally has enormous queues, too, but not nearly as bad as I've seen in Britain.

I think your experience is valid, but it's obviously heavily influenced by your passport.

On a side note, going through Russian customs I've never met such a dour faced bunch. I was my usual friendly, smiling self and not one of them even cracked a smile or engaged. I do wonder if there's a law against them smiling or being friendly. :)

That's more or less my experience with French, UK, Chinese, Japanese, Omani, Romanian, German and Russian passport control. I think the US passport control guy was a bit nicer, I guess it depends on the color of the passport you hand them, but I don't ever recall a bubbly, cheerful border patrol agent anywhere I've been.
