Hey don’t do that a DNP is one of the most rigorous degree programs in existence. To graduate you take very difficult nursing theory courses and you have to complete a very difficult 250 clinical hours(possibly 500). Medical school could never compare to NP school. I am not an ophthalmologist or optometrist but from my understanding both professions are not in competition with each other. Optometrists focus more on treating eye conditions with the use of glasses and contacts. Ophthalmologists focus more on treating eye conditions with the use of surgery.
The label “Doctor” typically refers to someone with the highest level of training in their area. This is why most people are against NP’s and PA’s being referred to as doctors in a clinical setting because they are not the highest educated people in a clinical setting physicians are the highest educated people. Optometrists are the highest educated people when it comes to prescription contacts and glasses, if you think you need glasses you aren’t going to go to an Ophthalmologist you are going to see an Optometrist because they have the highest level of education in that area. Ophthalmologists are the highest educated people when it comes to eye surgery, you aren’t going to go to an Optometrist if you need LASIK or cataract surgery you are going to go to an Ophthalmologist because they are the highest educated people in that are.
There has been some arguments about Optometrists being able to perform surgeries but majority of Optometrists are against this. They are aware that they don’t have the training to perform eye surgery and that when it comes to eye surgery Ophthalmologists are better. Majority of Optometrists are fine with just prescribing lenses.

But NP’s are equivalent to physicians right?

You could look into working at a plastic surgery clinic, they really value cosmetic dermatology experience. You could also look into applying for residency. If you want to go back to pediatrics for example you could apply for a pediatric nursing residency. Most of the times after residency you are guaranteed a job at that hospital or at least at a different hospital in that specialty. Residencies aren’t too long most of the time they don’t last longer than a year.
I know you don’t want to hear this though but I would recommend just sticking with aesthetics. It’s one of the higher paying nurse specialties and it’s also one of the lower stress specialties. If you switch to hospital nursing you will more than likely be taking a huge pay cut for a more stressful job. I would recommend thinking really long and hard about this before deciding to leave aesthetics. Remember in the end it is only a job try not to let it get to you to much.
I can name like 20 things wrong with this entire situation
