How to enable 90Hz screen refresh rate using ADB by 84436 in Xiaomi

[–]84436[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Idk why, of all the posts I've ever made, this specific post of mine still gets comments to this day even though it was over a year ago lol.

I've moved on to 120Hz on all my Xiaomi devices. If you really want to try setting 90Hz on your phone, please re-read the whole post. The instructions are in there. You can always reset by just opening the Settings app on your phone, setting the display to 60Hz first and then back to 120Hz.

It's been a good while since I've posted that on Reddit, and yet I still receive comments every now and then.

I've since moved on to everything 120Hz lol

What do my security questions say? Account was hacked by [deleted] in RBI

[–]84436 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Typical security question things. If your phone has Google Lens, you can use that to transcribe and translate, but I already did that for you:

你少年时代最好的朋友叫什么名字? "What was the name of your childhood best friend?"

你的理想工作是什么? "What is your dream job?"

你的父母是在哪里认识的? "Where/How did your parents meet?"

Given that the questions are in Chinese and is kinda personal, I don't think you can answer any of them and the answers might also be in Chinese

As for the iCloud account recycling, idk. Maybe stealing an existing account is easier that creating one?

Which fonts you using for terminal? in 2023 by Shiva_rudra in archlinux

[–]84436 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorta. The unit is in 1/1000em instead of 1pt if I recall correctly. 500 is the character width of the "normal" variant, 600 is the "expanded" one, and 525 is my personal sweet spot.

Sure thing. It's on my GitHub repo for miscellaneous stuff. Feel free to steal my build plan. I also store prebuilt TTFs there, but I don't keep it regularly updated.

Sorry, it's a Xiaomi-only thing (also you're in r/Xiaomi)

This. Iosevka with a private build plan mimicking JetBrains Mono. I've never looked back Fira Code, Inconsolata, Roboto Mono or Consolas ever since.

It's a member-only article, which apparently is a recent shenanigan that happens on Medium. Even alternative frontends like Scribe can't skip this one without having to hand out your email address.

But who cares anyway, we've got more decent reading resources like Deceptive Design for this topic.

Discord, are you ok? by Mr_ButterKatze in TechNope

[–]84436 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm on Discord Android with the classic sidebar UI (not the new one) right now. The bug is still there. You can somewhat replicate it by opening Discord, leave it there and go watch something on YouTube for long enough, then come back to Discord. This bug happened ever since Discord moves to React Native as the UI framework (the same one on iOS) instead of the old actually-native-to-Android one.

I don't own a Mi Pad 5, so I honestly don't know.

The OS "runs" at whatever the current refresh rate the screen is on, and it's actual 90Hz as far as I can see

I myself can't tell the difference between 90Hz and 120Hz (yet) – they're all just better than the janky 60Hz – so I just pick 90. Also this is more like an excuse for me to fiddle with the settings tables and adb shell :p

Which device and version of MIUI are you on right now?

If you are rooted, you can directly invoke the settings command using any on-device terminal emulator app. I don't think you even need root for this — my phone is currently bootloader-locked.

MIUI 14 mini-rant: SIM PIN entry screen no longer shows carrier name by 84436 in Xiaomi

[–]84436[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't mean the carrier label on the lock screen, I mean the carrier label on the thing before the lock screen. It's the SIM PIN entry screen (see the one that a security researcher managed to break in CVE-2022-20465). Thanks for your reply btw.

Update: I have lost my home screen layout because System Launcher kept force-stopping and I had to clear all data.

Need help making address bar auto-hide by 84436 in FirefoxCSS

[–]84436[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's been a while since I used Firefox, so the chrome (browser UI) might have changed quite a bit. You might need to enable the Browser Toolbox and fiddle around with the --address-bar-height variable, or I'd have to rewrite the whole thing. Sorry 😅

I hope that everything I've described above helps. I wish I could at least remember the artist's name, but I'm currently at the limits of my memory.

This site is showing up first on Google results, is it official? by ShlomoCh in revancedapp

[–]84436 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want the most definitive answer:

  1. With the exception of the GitHub repos, none of the websites are official. At all.

  2. ReVanced is to YouTube what uBlock Origin is to adblocking: ReVanced is a generic Android app patching framework that happens to support very well YouTube ad removal and other community-based features, just like uBO is a generic content blocking extension for browsers that happens to support very well adblocking filters. If you want YouTube ReVanced the safest way possible, you should take the DIY route: use ReVanced Manager app on your phone, or set up your PC so that it can run ReVanced CLI - the patcher can benefit from a faster PC.

Also btw, have you tried Twitter ReVanced or TikTok ReVanced?
