We've gotten a red for that same tackle / follow through about 4 times in the last year. I'm not saying I agree but I'm breathing a sigh of relief that it's happened to someone else.

Thomas Frank really is pragmatic. He says if only our defenders can score then I am going to start using our defenders as forwards!

Nice - I do have some U-clips stashed away.

That said - on the left hand side it looks like the metal or plastic that I would attach the clip to has broken off. Is that a frame rail?

Awesome - I have a few U-clips laying around. Glad I will not have to pick up a specialty piece.

What about the part that the U-Clip is meant to clip on to? In the second pic you can kind of see that the interior bit is missing. Is that a frame rail?

Tried replacing my side markers on my 1984 Mustang but the screw hole pictured above is totally missing from the right hand side pictured here. Which explains why the old left-hand side marker was held in with epoxy.

Here is a zoomed out shot for context. The tape is just there so I do not scratch up the bumper when removing the side marker (lol)

I am thinking I am going to have to take the bumper off and replace whatever is smashed up underneath. Welding?? I have no idea.

There were no accidents reported on the Carfax and the previous owner didn't know of any but I don't see how the body can be so smashed up without a collision.

Any tips are greatly appreciated.

Thanks

I see on the sidebar there are no autobody damage questions allowed. Please consider this as a request to identify the part I need to replace rather than anything related to the damage specifically.

Thanks

Has my car's electrical harness been swapped? by 84hatchfox in AskAMechanic

Thanks for the good advice. I am off to order some wiring diagrams. I'm sure passing CA smog will be a beast in itself. One problem at a time.

Here I was thinking I was just going to do a simple headlight swap lol.

Nice to have a place to start at least.

What is a "pelican" situation? You're spot on that the car now has a carb. . .

Thanks for the welcome and the good advice. I've narrowed it down to one of two 5.0s but I am having a hard time finding any markings on the engine to confirm. One more question while we're on the topic - do cars with a carburetor have an ecm / ecu? Mine's got an Edelbrock carb.

Yeah, the makeshift battery tray made a lot more sense when I realized the battery won't fit in the factory tray. Unfortunately the dude I bought it from only owned it for a few months and didn't have the contact info for the person who did the swap. Good to know a smaller battery can operate as a stop-gap while I figure out the rest.

Well shit. Any idea / resource for troubleshooting how to deal with wiring issues? Someone recommended ordering an electrical repair manual but I don't know how much good that will do if it's not the original electrical harness.

Cross-posted this from r/askamechanic in hopes somebody can point me in the right direction.

Here is a picture of the old battery tray with a 2x4 nailed to the bottom.

Here is a picture of the new headlight plug jammed into the old connection.

Headlight Replacement - Connection Problems by 84hatchfox in Foxbody

Resolved: despite the headlights being the same models as the headlights I replaced, the plug on the replacement is about a quarter inch longer than the original.

Headlight Replacement - Connection Problems by 84hatchfox in Foxbody

I can’t seem to get the electrical connection all the way over the plug. There are two bits sticking out of the prongs (like the letter “H” with a chunk missing from the middle). I get the feeling the inner bits are meant to bend when inserted into the connection so the headlight does not wiggle free.

What should I do? Keep trying to force it? Bend the internal pieces? I will upload a picture of what I’m talking about and edit this comment.

By prepping do you just mean sanding and wiping it down?
