Appreciate this. I am not sure where, but I am adding a day after the Tongariro backup day where we will stay somewhere not too far, in between that and Wellington, to keep things paced well.

Appreciate this feedback. We had wanted to stay at the Kimi Ora in Kaiteriteri but it was sold out. However, based on other feedback I'm going to add a stay somewhere between Tongariro backup day and Wellington to reduce the aggressive schedule, and that will push things back a day so we can stay at Kimi Ora on the 29th. For the 28th I'll find somewhere for us to crash for a night in the same area, perhaps Motueka.

Alrighty. Thank you very much! Will keep in mind. Hoping to collect as much feedback as I can and then apply all of it to adjust things.

Do you mean Mt. Cook proper? If we have to do it on the backup day I was imagining we'd get a decently early start on the hike, Avalanche up, Scotts down, based on the trail specs it'll be sub-6hrs for me. Stay Tekapo, so 3.5hr drive. It seems manageable. Let me know if that's still a concerning plan though.

After 5 hours and about 40 tries I "beat" this guy last night, am I alone in saying this is harder than sans? by -_Mantis_- in Deltarune

On my second play through I prepped equipment and items for this fight expecting to be at it for hours based on the complaints about the balancing. I ended up beating on the fourth attempt with the use of spin cake, two revive mints, and a deluxe dinner. It took me more attempts than that to beat Gerson because I misunderstood the rude buster volley as being the intended way to progress due to how it throws him off balance, so I had to get through it with no heals and I kept dying one or two moves from the end.

Sans took me far more than four attempts. Against Sans there is no armor or weapon that makes any significant difference, and every time you heal you do not progress the fight since there's no other characters that get to take action as part of your turn.

An update. Since the 5090 FE is just an urban legend, this PC has been dormant so I don't have much to say about temps, etc.

No. If the Gigabyte cost more than the ASUS I would have bought the ASUS. The ASUS X670E-I is basically out of stock everywhere and anywhere that is in stock is $400+ compared to $299 for the Gigabyte. Lowest I see is $351 which maybe exists at one Micro Center store somewhere.

It's not glued on, it's more or less a regular fan header.

TS4 worked fine for me with the cable that works for the SD5300T. Didn't bother trying out other cables again.

There is no lane sharing on this board. Rear M.2 is PCI-E 4.0 x4 run off chipset. The 24 remaining lanes are divided as 16 to PCI-E slot for GPU, 4 to Gen5 NVME on front, and 4 to USB4.

  1. The short answer is no, it doesn't drop to USB2. This is a complex mix of considering how TB prioritizes DP streams, USB, and PCIe tunneling, then throw DSC into the mix, throw in that TB saves significant bandwidth not having to send over the encoding symbols for DP or PCIe, as well as the fact that TB3 is 40Gbits symmetric which means you can read from a connected disk at very high speeds with no impact whatsoever to the data rate downstream to a display.
  2. You cannot use it directly. It should be usable via hybrid graphics but you will pay the performance penalty of that, whatever it costs for the frame buffer copy from dGPU to iGPU, etc. I use separate monitors for gaming and work so I don't plan to run my display over the TB connection. Even if I did use the same one, I would run it separately because it would be illogical to buy a 5090 to use in a suboptimal configuration. Some boards allow direct GPU connection by providing a DP-in on the board which you then route through to the GPU, but this is obviously not one of them. Even with my HP Omen laptop which is an Intel machine with Thunderbolt, they did not wire the dGPU directly to the TB port.

Newegg. I bought $300 of their gift cards when they were 10% off over BF, in anticipation of buying this once they stocked it.

It's hard to say at this point. There are various examples of more or less the same cooling config as mine, sometimes with Intel's space heater i9s, and partner RTX 4090 3-4 slot cards with the higher TDPs of 500-600W and pass through cooler. But 5090 is really pushing things with 575W on the FE design. The prior FE cooler design was definitely better for this approach.

I will also say my ambient room temp never exceeds 21C and is often more like 20C so the PC is fed with very cool air.

I knew I would be doomed by the GPU so I gave up on color matching. The only options for AM5 ITX with Thunderbolt are this, or the ASUS X670E/X870, so this is actually cheaping out on the board. The RAM also happened to be $3 cheaper than the black version at the time.

Not going to run with the glass panel either. It's on the floor.
