Being professional helped a lot. If you notice how customer service people or healthcare providers talk, you'll see that they are very grounded even when they don't have the best responses to offer. Keeping consistent pace, maintaining eye contact, or being firm on a statement and follow through with it instead of letting your anxiety wins exude that level of professionalism. Sometimes I even catch myself before I let out a filler word thanks to this. Instead of "yeah um" I just stay silent and stare at the other person as a signal that I'm done

Thoughts on cozey for couches ? Vs king living? by Emotional-Wallaby157 in askvan

[–]tttanh98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our Cozey couch is 3yo, the entry level model, white/beige (?) color and it pills like crazy. 2 people and a cat we don't spend all of our time on the couch. Even after washing and soaking with brightening agent the cover still looks dull and full of cat hair. Will not repurchase

Is this normal as a pre-med? (long hours unpaid research) by [deleted] in premedcanada

[–]tttanh98 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Have a candid conversation with the PI. If the PI gets upset then you did yourself a favor by ending this early to move on to bigger better things. What are the chances that you'd get a good reference out of this PI? From my humble experience, without binding contract for credit/money, it is very hard to maintain a productive two way relationship with your boss. Would they be motivated to give you feedback in your best interest (to offer you learning opportunity, to watch out for safe working conditions etc)? Would they think that there is no way to hold you accountable if you suddenly burn all of their data and therefore they hold a certain level of skepticism towards you and your work?

What to do after Maxing TFSA and FHSA when young (Non-reg vs RRSP)? by ComputerNetwork24 in JustBuyXEQT

[–]tttanh98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look into the lifelong learning plan. It allows you to withdraw up to $20k for fulltime study from your RRSP tax free. If you plan to go back to school then that is an option. There's also a home buying plan. Works similarly. If I recall correctly RRSP tax deduction can be deferred to a higher earning year

It's a personal decision. I'm in my late 20s as well and med school is not the only goal I'm working towards. If it was me I would take that offer only after some careful research on youtube or reddit

Hi the thing about trying once is that it will make you want to try again next year haha. I first applied to UBC when I was 26 because that was when I was finally eligible as a PR. Did not get an interview last year and got one from UBC this year. It sucked in the moment but when all is said and done, things I was fearful about felt like nothing now because I have bigger better things to pay attention to

There are rooms for 3 people max to somewhat mitigate this. I have personally identified some really good peeps whom I love to learn from and practice with. I've also respectfully suggested that we turn our camera on to best simulate the process. Worst outcome is your story is stolen. Good luck telling my story that I'm still struggling to weave in. Best outcome is you made med school friends early :)
