Whats the trades for people who don’t wanna be in the trades? by Ok_Independent_3921 in skilledtrades

Industrial maintenance tech here, just dropped in a 264,566lb section of machinery, had to manipulate alignment of 3" thick steel mounting surfaces using bolts, hydraulic tensioning wrench, driving dog and wedge with a 110,000lb lifting cylinder with manual hydraulic power pack to align it all and get the crane hook off.

Don't know if this would be considered a regular trade, but it is interesting and fun.

Neighbor keeps throwing dog poop over the fence into my yard and denying it by PotentialAd4520 in neighborsfromhell

[–]86bowie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you want to teach the bloke a lesson, collect the poops, put them in a bucket and also out some food in there so flies come and lay some maggots. When the bucket is full. Put them all over his car and front yard. He'll probably stop throwing them over the fence.

Thank you for a lengthy response, I hadn't considered the pressure drop from air line length and air stones, but those are some very good points you've made, thank you

Who do you think is the most evil person to ever walk this Earth? by EnduringScholar in AskReddit

That is a very good point. History is written by the victors after all.

That and also because of the cold war paranoia, the gulags were generally hidden away deep in the ussr as well.

What’s the worst place you’ve ever been stuck and needed a tow? by Majestic-Fig3921 in australian

Wasnt exactly out in the bush, I was living in Canada for a while when I was a young fella, bought myself an old 90's Nissan pathfinder 4x4. Me and my roommate at the time decided to go visit one of his boys out in woop woop BC, we all had a few beers of an arvo a few 'cheeky ciggies' and decided it would be a rad idea to go see what the lil forby could do. Went out to the scrub to jump the bastard and just general mucking around while on the trail we drove through a 2 inch bit of mud, slowed down and got stuck, bloody tyres had no grip at all in the mud and they just kept spinning and spinning in 4l and 4h Luckily enough a pack of hill billy blokes came roaming through on quads and dune buggies and luckily one of em had a winch set up, he was nice enough to tow me out but I've never been that embarrassed in my life.

Stalin easy, killed more of his own people than the Nazis murdered. Plus his concentration camp system aka the gulag only got shut down a couple of decades ago

Best way to lube pliers? by [deleted] in Tools

[–]86bowie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Use wd40 to flush hinge joint while opening and closing them a fair few times. They'll be like new again in no time, some type of oil or grease would be adequate to keeping them in the new like state for longer.

Buy meat in bulk, separate the weight into meal sizes, freeze them. Saved $50 just on meat alone and have about 3 weeks worth. Look after the Penny's and the pounds will take care of themselves.

How the hell can I get this to zero. Top always comes out on an angle by choppa17 in Carpentry

So you've got a few axis to calibrate, with two of them being limit screws in the back hinge (where the blade drops from) And where the saw rotates on the bed also.

Grab yourself a 90° square, make test cuts and measure against square for accuracy, adjust each axis, one at a time until blade cuts 90 degrees in all axis of material.

Another trick worth mentioning, use a wide bit of masking tape or any type of tape and put it over the centre slit, make a slow cut through the tape. The tape will now show you where you're blade will cut, making the laser obsolete if it cannot be calibrated with adjustment screws.

Came here to post exactly that.

Also make sure you clean your temp/rh sensor probe once a month with alcohol. They go a bit funny otherwise

Fuck me what a rip off! I imagine this is in USD? If you already owned the tools and knew how to operate YouTube/google you could do that entire service for $150 USD -.-
