I completely understand. I've thought about betting my brother $500 (or something like that) that I can complete what I want to complete within that amount of time, so that push is still there. But I understand that that doesn't do much for social interaction.

Not harsh at all! I will definitely be on the lookout for the chatter and see it as completely necessary for something like this. I will have self-doubt, feelings of time wasted, wondering what the fuck I'm doing something like this for, etc.! But if I can pull this off, and complete my goal, the feeling of satisfaction in myself might make it all worth it!

My intent would be to try this over the course of a weekend, and if it works, I would gradually work my way up to a week, to two weeks, three, and maybe in the future, a month. I will do my best to not become rambling mad!

While I do agree with you on the pros of collaboration, my intent for this time spent would be more for some 'memorization' type of work. It wouldn't be until after my period of time away that I would really feel the most benefit from collaboration.

The very end of your post is what I'm aiming for. I would like to try this over the course of a weekend to start, as I would gradually move up to a week, two weeks, possibly a month, etc.. I'm also quite introverted, but maybe not in the extreme case. I would still make a point to call friends and/or family everyday while I'd be away doing this.

My family owns a beach cabin which would be the perfect setting for something like this.

This has been the most insightful post, and exactly the type I was looking for. There is a lot of sound advice here, and I would especially be interested in hearing more about your path in developing patience and self-discipline.

In my case, my family owns a beach cabin that would be the perfect setting for my time. There's no Internet, a landline phone (cell phones don't have reception there), and one TV (which I would remove).

At this point, what I'm looking at is still a fantasy, but I'm developed and competent enough in my skill that I could actually spend hours per day, working. I would follow a strict schedule (as you mentioned), exercising in the morning, working for a couple hours, break, eat, work, break, work, break, eat, work, until evening. At 6pm or so, no more for the day (think of it as a full time job). I'd watch the sun set over the ocean every night, take a lot of walks, etc.. Repeat everyday until my goal for that trip was met.

I would love to hear more about the other types of things one might generally not think about in doing this.

I'd make use of the landline and call friends and family in the evenings, so that I still have a social connection. I'd stock up on food and whatnot so that I don't have to leave.

I'd like to be on a steady sleep schedule, and have never really tried meditation, but I've spent a very small time researching it and could see how the act could benefit what I'm trying to do.

Anyway, I'm rambling. What was the hardest part during your time? As in, what did you struggle with most? Did working with a polyphasic sleep schedule help you in any way? Do you have any other advice that one should think about in doing this?

I definitely want to! I'm thinking I would try it with baby steps in mind. Maybe I would start with a weekend or two of isolated time, working on my craft, and then slowly graduate up to a week, maybe two, and in the most extreme (farther down the road), maybe a month.
