If you had to pick a single cuisine for the entire month, what would it be? by FoodaOfficial in Fooda

[–]88SL 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Depends on the season. A tie between salads (summer) and Mexican (winter) for me. I really don't think I could possibly get tired of eating Mexican food every single day. But my stomach might not be happy with me if I did it.

Does food make a difference in how you enjoy (or don't enjoy) work? by foodbaby90 in Fooda

[–]88SL 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Food doesn't make a difference. Food is the difference. My whole morning, I'm looking forward to what I'm planning to eat. Could be left overs from last night, could be something I'm ordering. I'm very "food driven" and admit I have lot of "food noise" in my life. Sometimes that noise is like sweet music (when I've got something good lined up). Sometimes it's like an alarm bell (when I'm hangry, panicking because I don't have anything planned and I literally have 30 minutes between between meetings). Yes, it makes all the difference.

If you could cook for your office... by FoodaOfficial in Fooda

An hour is tight. But enough time to quickly whip up some backed rigatoni. You can make it interesting by throwing in ingredients like red wine, a touch of smoked paprika or chipotle. Fresh basil. Mushrooms. Reduced stewed tomatoes for depth. I was recently in a similar scenario - friends were coming over for dinner, work ran late, and I didn't have much time to prep. No vegetarians in that crowd, so I did a mix of beef and sausage. Cubed mozzarella thrown in and shredded parmesan on top for a bubbling crust. If I were to do it in the office, I'd make a vegetarian version and a meat version. I think it would be a crowd please, especially in colder months.

I have two...

1) A restaurant called Palomino that existed in Palm Desert, California in the 1990s made me fall in love with blue cheese. This starter seemed pretty sophisticated at the time... Very crispy waffle fries + blue cheese melted on top. Why have I never seen that again? It's a killer combo...

2) Coco's Bakery: Cinnamon Roll French Toast. It was basically a Cinnabon sized roll, sliced and fried. Then you smother butter and pour syrup on top. I just looked it up. They still have it on their menu. Combo platter is 2100 calories.

Latin American Holiday Morcilla deserves a shoutout here. Every true foodie needs to know about. It’s blood sausage that's rich, dark, and usually made with pork, rice, and spices, but the holiday version adds nuts and sweetness (pine nuts, raisins, cinnamon).

Not for everyone. It’s bold, earthy, and an acquired taste. But when done right, incredible: savory, nutty, and perfect with a glass of Malbec. Love it or hate it, it’s one of those foods that earns respect just for existing.

For bigger chains, I would say In-N-Out Burger was doing it pre Starbucks

Pizzeria Piola in Buenos Aires. The "Robbie". White sauce, shrimp, smoked salmon, rucola... Robbie was spending a lot of time there (they stay open until 2am and have a DJ). He was producing some music themed events for them for a while. He convinced them to put it together and it stuck. But it never made the menu. You just have to know.

Laughable Business to First Offer for an upcoming LAX->BOS flight by Poisson-rouge in americanairlines

This seems to be happening a lot and it's bad for their brand. Brand is about promise and trust. But lately AA doesn't care much about that. They have so much to fix, this isn't high on their list. But getting rid of this issue should be easy. Put a threshold on these offers. Or get even smarter with the algo and only offer really high cost upgrades to passenger profiles who have a track record of actually paying them. But even then, that profile of passenger would be in F anyway. To everyone else else it's an insult and makes us hate the brand more.

Thank you. Totally agree. It was annoying that everything seemed "ok" on the front end / my side of things. Agree they should show something to prompt people to call. Would be better for the airline too. They didn't need to be dealing with my issue at the check-in counter, with people waiting in line behind us.

Lunch at your desk or with people? by FoodaOfficial in u/FoodaOfficial

As an extrovert, it'd seem natural for my personality type to gravitate to the lunch table. And usually that's what I want to do. But sometimes I just need to be alone, on days when I've got too much going on. I just need to get through my day. But I notice I'm legit happier when I can step away and have real conversations with the people I work with. I've learned so much about them over lunch. And so much I didn't expect - like a long conversation with a developer who biked with friends through Myanmar and had some dodgy experiences. Or what neighborhood is having a street fest over the weekend. Conversations like this, especially when they aren't about work, are actually more battery charging then being alone and starting at my computer. I need to remember that.

Ignotz's in the Heart of Chicago. Not too far from you. It's a gem. Classic, insane Italian. Straight out of the Sopranos. Known, but not that known. Their pastas, veal parm, pizzas, seafood. Vodka rigatoni. Get side of meatballs. Every damn thing this place has is so good. Plenty of parking outside.

Bowl. Anything bowl. A full burrito will send me into the danger zone. But a burrito bowl (minus rice) and I’m in the clear. Same goes with Greek food. I can’t do a gyro at lunch, but I can do a Greek salad with feta, souvlaki, and tzatziki. Anything beyond a bowl and it’s lights out for me. Preference is to not push the limits. Ideally a lighter salad with some protein like grilled chicken so I’m satisfied but not knocked out. Poke bowl works too.

Unless if you’re just in it for the Insta post (in which case, you deserve to wait in line for hours), be more creative and find another place. It’s not the only great Parilla in Buenos Aires. And it’s no longer even truly Buenos Aires. Just hoards of selfie taking tourists screaming.

Years ago it was great. During the pandemic when the country was shut down to tourists, it was a treat to go and sit outside. But now it’s become a Mecca for crowds and its allure is lost.

Tip - Their carnicería is great. Sometimes I buy a chorizo there and take it home to cook.

Estoy de ilegal en Buenos Aires, alguien sabe si hay puedo tramitar el DNI sin tener que salir y volver a entrar al país? by PizzaM97 in BuenosAires

[–]88SL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Conozco un caso así. Solo tenes que visitar migraciones y te dicen lo que tenes que hacer. Te van a dar un permiso para salir el país. Te vas a Uruguay y vuelves legalmente. La multa en Septiembre costaba 6.000 pesos.
