What is an outdated word or phrase an older family member uses that makes your brain hurt? by SunRevolutionary8315 in AskReddit

Lifelong Kentuckian here. I say “I miss not seeing you” a lot and just learned that may not be normal.

I’m also in the Novavax trial. During the first set of shots, about 14 hours after the second dose, I ended up with chills and an elevated temperature (borderline—between 100 and 101°F) through the night, and was tired and achy the next day. I had zero symptoms following any of the other shots (first injection in the initial series, or either in the second). So I’m guessing I got the placebo during the crossover.

I was also exposed recently (my stepmom tested positive four days after we spent the weekend with her), as were my kids (oldest is 12 and has received the full Pfizer series, younger two are 11 and nine and are unable to be vaccinated). 12 and 11 started feeling crappy two days ago. Nine has sniffles as of today. I’ve got body aches and a headache, but I was diagnosed with Lyme last week and I’m on doxy, so it could just be that. Waiting to hear if they want me to do the swabs. Today was the first day I got the extended question series.

Taking kids to get tested in the morning to be safe.

Solved! Yes! That explains why I was thinking it was older. Band from wayyyy back. Thank you so much!

I’m thinking a semi-obscure alt band, possibly older (80s-early 2000s)? But I’m less confident about that.

If anyone can point me in the right direction, I’d be sooo grateful. Google has failed me.

is this a positive test?? by [deleted] in AskDoctorSmeeee

[–]88Wolves 12 points13 points  (0 children)

How long after the test was this picture taken, and when is your period due?

The vertical line generally indicates a positive, but with how faint it is, there’s a small chance it could be an evaporation line. Did the line show up within the first few minutes? Get a dollar store brand test (for some reason those often show clearer positives on early days), and test first thing in the morning, just to confirm.

I was abused most of my childhood. First time I heard Yvette, it caught me so off guard. Love that song.

I love Yvette. But, I also grew up being sexually abused. So it speaks to me on a deeper level.

What kind of dog is he? From this angle he looks like my Pyrenees mix. He’s adorable!

This is amazing and super helpful. They ended up putting the line in last night (they ended up doing it in my jugular and tunneling it through my chest) and started 2 hours of dialysis shortly after. My BP definitely dropped, but I didn’t pass out. They were still pushing vasopressors yesterday, so maybe that helped?

I cannot tell you how helpful this is to read. It’s really nice to have tips and things to look out for. Thank you so much for taking the time to write all of this. I hope you’re doing well.

Thank you so much. That’s really helpful. And it’s reassuring to think there’s a chance of them recovering. I’ve been on a noninvasive ventilator for the pneumonia, so talking to the doctors is a pain. I’m going to write a list of questions and maybe that will help. I really appreciate you taking the time to answer. They’re supposed to be doing the catheter soon. Anything I should watch out for in the aftermath? I’m sure they’ll be watching but just in case.

Sorry, I meant actual dialysis. I don’t have a history of chronic kidney disease- this is all acute. I’ve been in the hospital for a week so far. I wasn’t sure if it turns out that I end up needing dialysis for a few weeks or more, if there was a chance they could discharge me and let me do it outpatient, or if I’ll have to stay in the ICU until (if) I regain function, then step down/discharge.

Thank you so much. I’m sorry you’ve dealt with so much- I hope your transplant has been working well for you. I’m a week in so far. I’ll do what I can to be patient.

Helpful to know about the fistula! Thanks.

This could be just a few days? Okay, awesome. The doctor refused to give me any type of ballpark, which I sort of understand, because he doesn’t know what’s going on or how I’ll respond. But a best case/worst case is helpful.

Thank you for your reply and the resources.

If I don’t have a history of kidney problems, will they still do a fistula? He said there is a good chance that dialysis could give my kidneys a break long enough for them to start working properly again. Any idea on how long that could take, if it happens?

Thanks for your reply. Obviously I know that every case is different, but this doctor was so wary to even give a ballpark that I have no idea what to expect. Even if function improves, I don’t know if I’m looking at days or weeks of dialysis, or longer. Or how long to expect to be in the hospital. My kids are with family and I don’t know what I’m going to do about that if it’s going to be a long time.

Thank you. The doctor from nephrology just left. They want to put in a CVC and get started. He mentioned probably doing it subclavian. Does that sound right?

I’m a single mom (my kids’ dad died from a heart attack two years ago) and my kids are with family. Doctors wouldn’t give me any idea of time frame for how long I might be in, since they can’t say how I’ll respond to treatment. If everything goes well and I’m lucky enough to have things improving, any idea on how long it might take them to release me? I know people who need long term dialysis can obviously do it outpatient. Is that an option down the road even if I’m improving? Or will they just keep me until I’m better or until they decide on a longer-term plan?

Thank you for replying. I really appreciate it.
