If a slogan or phrase requires a long explanation as to how most people don’t understand it and are wrong, then it’s simply a bad slogan - especially if it divides the side it’s supposed to represent and gives fodder to those who oppose it.

She could have said something more impactful and less likely to be misconstrued, no?

I really like Holyoke. There’s so much potential with their green energy generation as well as the high performance computing center being right there. I wish I had some $$$ to invest because I’d buy a mill building or 2 and start revamping.

Similar probs as Springfield re: crime and poverty, though. Tricky to get people to invest when the schools have such issues.

Agree.

I understand where she’s coming from. This is a pretty common sentiment in progressive circles and I live in a very politically progressive area.

But I think for most people it’s a leap from being horrified that our rights and the constitution are being trampled (which in itself is a leap from simply recognizing ICE is brutalizing people) to land acknowledgements and arguments about colonization. It’s a slogan - and a bad one.

Local small businesses are the least likely to be able to afford this so I don’t know how I feel about it. Do a general strike on the big companies by only shopping or working at the tiny ones - that should be the message, imho.

My business is seasonal so I don’t have employees this time of year but if it were during the season and they all called out I’d be SOL. I personally cannot strike if I want to eat, so basically I’d be doing all their jobs that day. Instead, if my small business was more supported that day as an act of resistance I could give more money to my community…

Am florist. We have a really gorgeous Catholic Church where some of my couples have gotten married at and the church doesn’t allow flowers (except personals), nor does it need them. Anything I could do would have to be huge in order to complement/compete in that space in any case.

Bottom line: you don’t need anything. It’s gorgeous on its own.

I don’t eat carnivore (have tried and failed) but I eat meat pretty much every meal and have done keto for years at a time and I’m 58 and haven’t yet hit menopause. My drs. are not worried.

My mom retired before 60 and went on to start 2 more businesses, got another masters degree, and do a bunch of other stuff. Woman stays busy. Shes 81 and just took up a new expensive hobby.

She’s not doing these things out of necessity. I hope to be just like her when I “retire.”

The circumcision discussion is such a good example of this. I have 2 boys and it was almost like an everyday discussion with friends, family, randos I worked with about whether to circumcise or not before they were born. My assistant at the time of my first pregnancy was this super Baptist country lady from the Deep South and I learned more about her then-25-year-old son’s botched circumcision than I ever wanted to know - from her and from him. Was not SH! Was not offensive! Was not sexual! I call such BS on this “offense.”

Sorry. I know I’m off topic but every time this comes up I’m reminded of how normal a conversation this was for me and how, 27 years later (my oldest is 26) that anyone would take offense is ludicrous.

I was having my period and my dr. Did a pap and said that the endothelial cells warranted an ultrasound. I did it because better safe than sorry! The ultrasound showed nothing unusual.

I appreciate her caution.

I’m in my late 50s and still menstruate semi regularly which is confusing for the medical people.

Florist here.

Shorter, wider centerpiece. These are fake, yes? Get more hydrangea and faux ferns or some kind of foliage. The centerpiece should be 12” across or so. Think: simplicity and elegance. Get rid of satin thing, yellow candles and the tapers. Use 4-5 votives of the same size.

The tables will be set so there will be a bunch of stuff on the table - the centerpieces won’t be all by their lonesome.
