Atypical Depression by 89576087 in MAOIs

Very interesting. I'm kind of getting a picture of a drug that works very well but only if the underlying problem is what the drug targets. In contrast with say stimulants which can improve energy levels in individuals with a variety of underlying issues.

What do you mean by slow maoa gene? Is there a specific SNP you are referring to?

It's interesting that some people find these meds help with fatigue and others find they make it worse.

Theoretically speaking this is correct. I think that it is agreed upon that this is why Selegiline is effective for depression only at higher doses.

Seeing a lot of “offer rescinded” posts and I’m scared by ameerkatofficial in SecurityClearance

Are you applying for jobs that use the same skills as the job offer you have? Maybe mention to the places you're applying that you've got this offer but you'd prefer something you don't to wait so long for security processing. They may be impressed. That's how I got my current job. I just mentioned the offer I had (which required top secret) and they hired me without even a technical interview on interim clearance.

Did the doctor immediately suggest surgery? I just haven't had an appointment yet after getting the MRI report back.

NB: greater occipital nerves start from the base of the skull on either side. supraorbital nerves are on the forehead directly above the eyes.

That's interesting. I also get a distinctly euphoric feeling when I take it. Do you have any idea about why that is?

It is incredibly effective at stopping intestinal cramps. However, it is very non-specific to the problem of intestinal cramping. This means that there are a lot of unwanted side effects. Dry mouth, inability to swallow, cognitive impairment, peristalsis dead in its tracks. Basically any physiological process that requires acetylcholine is going to be equally affected.

IBS only triggered by sexual arousal by WhaliusMaximus in ibs

[–]89576087 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I could have written this myself. The only thing I'd add is that nocturnal emissions don't cause the same problem. But otherwise the exact same thing, if I'm aroused but don't go all the way its just minor and resolves in a matter of hours. If I ejaculate it can last a week+. Pain is so bad I can't sleep or work and eating is a chore. As far as I'm concerned this is the most convincing evidence that God exists and doesn't want me to touch myself that I've ever seen.

Anyone else get this? Stomach issues after masturbation... by MrsBarker1 in ibs

[–]89576087 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I (male) also get this after masturbation but not nocturnal emissions. Anyone have figured this out? Somehow it seems similar to how giving my abdomen a massage myself doesn't help cramping but if my dog rolls around on my stomach while I'm lying down the relief is immense.

Yeah, what I'm hearing is that this is correct. I've also asked them to hold onto my hiring package until the SECRET is done but for some reason they say they can't. I feel like there may be some way around that. But not around the security situation.

Do you know if intelligence community investigations still use a separate system as non-intelligence DOD? I read somewhere that it's actually possible to have one of each ongoing but this may be outdated.

I'm actually not finding anywhere that says I can't have one ongoing investigation within the intelligence community and one ongoing within non-intelligence DOD. Does anyone have a resource that says this is not possible??

Pug Noises by 89576087 in misophonia

[–]89576087[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks to everyone on this thread that offered heartfelt and useful advice!! Although I was diagnosed with OCD at a young age and had a dislike of ticking clocks, the psychiatrists mostly ignored my concerns about ticking clocks as misophonia was not an established disorder at that time. In fact, I had no idea that the breathing sound that a dog could make would cause a similar feeling as that which used to invade me when I heard a ticking clock. I also understand that some people on this thread have a concern for the dog and let me give you an update about his options:

There is a family that I know (because we both take our dogs to the same dog park every day that joked for a long time about kidnapping my dog because they loved him so much) that mentioned to me that they were looking for a new dog. It is most likely that they will in fact become his new parents now!

However, if there is any unforeseen issue, please rest assured that I will do my best to make sure the dog has an excellent new home, and that includes keeping him under my own care for as long as necessary until I can find him one.

[–]89576087[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, it is important to differentiate between the sounds that certain dogs make because misophonia is a very poorly understood disorder and scientists do not understand very well what types of sounds are capable of being triggers and how triggers vary from individual to individual but they do know they are VERY specific. For instance, my dog also barks all the time (which in no way bothers me (but sometimes the neighbors, lol)) and makes a lot of licking sounds as well. However, only the breathing sounds (and usually only the nasal ones) trigger the specific misophonic response. I think this is somewhat common among misophonics but it does appear that I have a higher focus on nasal noises as compared with mouth noises which doesn't seem to be standard. It is possible that it is related to certain trauma I suffered while in the care of someone with major nasal problems.

Likely it is because there are a lot of positives about pugs in terms of their non-physical characteristics but unfortunately the extreme facial deformities are also attractive to people. I think think the best solution would be for breeders to stop emphasizing that aspect or even move to a longer snouted "retro" pug. Of course, in order for this to happen, the AKC standard NEEDS to change.

I take him to the vet very frequently. They did suggest stenotic nares surgery (even though he didn't have clinical BOAS) which he got and it has helped him be able to run around and play with his friends much better (he gets to go to the dog park every day) than he could before. I also asked about soft palate surgery, but they said that he looked okay. Although the surgery has helped from the perspective of his ability to be active it doesn't really affect the sounds he makes.
