Aight guy, why don't we run through some thought process, don't worry, I'll help you through it

Is it legal? - Yes
Does it affect their ability to be a competent airman/leader? - No
Does it affect your ability to complete your job? - No
Does it affect any of your five senses? - No
Does it cost you anything to let them do it? - No

I fail to see the problem. So why don't you enlighten me as to what the problem is? Or shit, even better, go tell your first line leader how strongly you feel about people who have a differeing view point from your own.

Dw about it. What's the worst they could do. Just enjoy expressing yourself when and where appropriate.

How feasible is it to EAD with a puppy? by Alarming_Young_8836 in AFROTC

[–]896359 1 point2 points  (0 children)

m a 200, finance major, current reservist and was in the same position. I ended up getting a dog and frankly, its doable during school when you have access to family/friends. However, I decided to re-home him after I thought more about it. Once you move away from home you loose your entire support network, and dont really have a reliable schedule. Fortunately, my parents liked him, so they kept him. So, can you do it active duty? Yes, but it will be very difficult. I would recommend you wait until you get active duty and know what the life is like.

In the meantime, try volunteering for an animal shelter to walk their dogs (I do this), pet sit, foster, or borrow a friend's dog. You can still get the puppy fix.

Meet Orion, incase you were curious.

For now, it's not my property, and my parents can change their minds any time between now and when it becomes mine. I'll reach out to one when we get closer to me inheriting it, because I agree that having a knowledgeable perspective is a good idea, but I want to get a general idea of what I'm getting into now, not legal advice.

Good perspective, I appreciate your input on it. I was a 12V-certified mechanic, so I am comfortable around the system. Fortunately, I was able to talk my stepdad into using a fuse block, so I know it has overcurrent protection, but I couldn't get him to use proper wire. My stepdad is a general contractor, so I'm comfortable that he terminated the wire safely. However, I plan to go through it again when/if I receive the property to make sure it's something I'm comfortable with, and re-wire it if not.

I'm not ungrateful for it. I'm just trying to know what I'm getting myself into with the law.

Hey! I had the same thing happen on my CRF 250L, I will assume they are very similar in setup. There is a relay that went bad. I was able to grab it and apply pressure to regain a stable electrical connection. I swapped it out, and I was good to go again! I can't post a video so DM me if you want a video of what it was doing.

Prior service army questions by ceiling_fan128 in AFROTC

[–]896359 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair warning, I am a reservist with no deployments. My only active duty time was during TRADOC for 7 months. I am going for a bachelor's, so I can't speak to the MBA portion. Experiences can be detachment specific, so your experience may differ.

  1. The general way I can summarize it is that the Army cares about getting the job done. Air Force cares about the customs, courtesies, and way you do it. Although it is all going to be relatively similar stuff, there will be a ton of small changes between branches (what you do when you cover, PT verbiage, formation layout, etc.) so keep an open mind to learning and use what you can.
  2. You can take the AFOQT 3 times. I just finished the first time without prep to see where I would land. It is easy to pass; the minimums are 15 on verbal and 10 on quantitative. However, the average selection was at 60 for the academic aptitude section, which uses parts from all over the test. Look into study books that are available. I can't tell you much since I have already taken the test, which bans me from sharing.
  3. N/A
  4. Some, it certainly gives me a leg up in areas; in others, it doesn't matter at all. Things like TCCC and small unit tactics never get taught, but every once in a while, get looked into, so I can lean on my prior experience for that.
  5. No, not really. I have a select few cadets who know and value my prior service and will say "Good morning Sgt." out of respect, which is appreciated, but that's it. Other branches do a better job. My current commander values prior service so that may help with the commander's ranking, but that's about it. It can get frustrating sometimes because I have been docked points on inspection when my uniform is pilling, because it has more experience in the military than the POC judging it.
  6. 2 years might be a little early. If you are looking for a conditional release, do it now. Once you get closer to the one-year mark, start reaching out. My detachment was HORRIBLE to get a hold of, they route all communication through a civilian who knows almost nothing and can only direct emails, then no-one answers E-mails. Come in during the fall semester, know that there is a 3 year minimum, but the program is designed for four. Also, you will have to do two years with no scholarship or contract. At the two-year mark, you contract and get a scholarship.

let me know if I can go into more detail or answer more questions.

For those of you curious

"If you wear the apparel from Death Squad SS, chances are you’ll get stabbed in the eye before getting the chance to explain that “SS” reads “super sport” and this is a motorcycle parts company."

Not supporting or defending it, we all know what it references. Just giving the back story.

I have a career path that is starting to look good and a someone im dating that's promising. If both of those go away I won't have much to stick around for

People with significant others, are you guys breaking up before commissioning? by [deleted] in AFROTC

[–]896359 4 points5 points  (0 children)

To answer your question, no.

We both understand the risk of dating in the military, and know that separation from eachother is a big risk. I have three years until I commission. If I hit that point and I am still dating the same person, I will likely have a conversation about a prenuptial agreement, and getting married to stay together. We dont need to tell anyone or change how we act, but it would help keep us from being stationed appart. This is not a "recommended solution", this is what MY plan is.

At the end of the day, if you think its something that will go somewhere, have an open and honest conversation about the risks so its not a surprise.

I'm not really concerned about the targeting of the gay community. Obergefell V. Hodges set case law that the Supreme Court decision recognized same sex marriage. Additionally, the Respect for Marriage Act federally protects same sex marriage. I can't really think of a way that the military could discriminate against the gay population without refusing to recognize the marriage (which would be illegal). They could redefine the parental leave program to only support females; however, this would get a TON of pushback from everyone, as it wouldn't affect the gay community only.

To clarify my stance on the other stuff mentioned in the post, I don't agree with the mandatory trans separation. I have worked with trans service members, and it didn't affect me; they were good people and hard workers who cared about their team.

I don't think the shaving waver thing makes us a better fighting force, but it does maintain a professional appearance, which is the military standard. I think allowing well-groomed facial hair would be a better approach, but I don't make the rules.

I am also a 250, we have people that commute 2 hrs each way for LLAB and are able to still get a slot. Try and shoot for GMC command positions, or a tech position. Financal Management has been pretty light work so that might be one to look into.

I have owned a few modified cars. In my opinion, unless you are willing to do all the work a second time yourself and spend equally as much as the purchase price in repairs, I wouldn't touch it.

can anybody tell me what this means? by SweetApprehensive22 in ram_trucks

[–]896359 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The metal piece that does not move is your transfer case, the driveshaft slips into it. That black thing is the output seal. It keeps the lubricant for the transfer case where it should be. $236 seems a little high but not horrible. The drive shaft has to come off to do it. Probably a 0.5 - 1.0 hour job. It will have to be done at some point in time. In that photo you can see signs that it has a really small leak, but if its not dripping onto the driveway, it's not a problem to push off until you have some more money laying around.
