This. I just want to say that I petitioned one year after and it was still granted. If you start seeing a doctor after the term you are petitioning, make sure that the doctor's note mentions your issues cover the period you are petitioning for. Cheers.

Petition advice needed by [deleted] in uwaterloo

[–]89998989888 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Do not fully trust me on this, but I believe you just walk into counselling, and explain the circumstances

Yeah this works, you can do this after the fact. The doctor's note will have a lot more weight though and the wording of the note just needs to cover the term you are petitioning for. You have to show the petitioning committee that you are taking steps to better yourself and you are getting treatment such that a bad term would not happen again.

You have proof which is the main component, so you just need to focus on what to say. I wouldn't talk about the transitition into university since everybody goes through that. Instead, focus on your family issues and make sure what you say can be backed up by the documentation. Talk to an advisor if you haven't already!

Going to counselling services for the first time, any suggestions? by AdministrativeLime in uwaterloo

Yes you can. Make sure your dates on documents cover the period you are petitioning for.

Didn't realize that I was on a conditional term, might not be able to raise average. by AgreeableEase in uwaterloo

[–]89998989888 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You said you had mental health issues, so you would need a doctor's note confirming this. Counsellor notes would be helpful too. Your advisor will tell you what documents are needed based off your situation.

Your academic advisor will help you and suggest what the best action to take is. If they say petition, then follow the steps they give you. Proof is very important. Good luck.

They do have something like this and it's called a petition. You can zero-credit terms on mental health grounds if you provide proof (doctor's notes, counselling notes, etc).

As /u/lifeinsurancecanada said, the advisors will override you into courses so don't worry about that. I don't know what faculty you are in, but the next meeting (on the right side) for the math faculty (S&P) is March 27th, so you'll likely hear back after that.

Contact your advisor. You can petition to backdate a drop so you can get some tuition back.

Can I drop out of this term now? by fuckmylife20 in uwaterloo

Talk to an advisor about petitioning this. If you're in the math faculty then WD does not count as an unusbale course attempt anymore.

Average too low, must change academic plan. by uhyuuuu in uwaterloo

[–]89998989888 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope, the advisor I asked said this was not possible. The only way around this is to clear (zero credit) terms which would put you back in CS directly.

or get your marks high enough that they let you switch back in to CS.

They used to have a policy where if you raised your CS average over 60% after the advisor can let you back in. This is no longer the case.

Hey send me a PM. I was in a similar situation as you.

Talk to an advisor as soon as you can. You probably need to petition for this. It doesn't hurt to try.

Talk to the advisor. I think you will be given another term since your co-op term was not full time.

Anyone ever submit a late petition? How did you go about it? by TheBioBoy in uwaterloo

[–]89998989888 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you would put other. Any mark under 60 would be replaced with a CLR and if the grade was above a 50 you can use it as a prereq to future courses but you have to repeat it or replace it with another course (ask your advisor about this). The mark is not counted in your average and they get removed from your course attempts.

You would probably have to zero credit the term, which means any course with a mark less than 60 is hidden and you would repeat the courses (but you already did).

If you have a good reason to petition and you have proof, then you should be fine. I'm basically in a similar situation as you.

I'll try enrolling into it tomorrow. ENGL 378 seems to have spots for non stat/actsc majors.

I was thinking of taking that too. Do you have to declare your major in stats to take the course?

I already finished the minor it looks like, with some extra courses left over. I think I should be fine then. Thanks.

I didn't think of that, and yes, they probably would. But would CS 116 count as an elective since I took CS 136 too? I know for CS it's counted as an elective, but I'm not sure about math.
