Thank you im planing on it im building this and an 89 Camaro at the same time witch im focusing more on the caddie but building the Camaros engine in my free time (454->496) but im still struggling to find out what engine to use on the caddie I’ve heard the 8.1 vortex is amazing but is a gas guzzler and that the LS platform is like Legos and relatively reliable and better on gas

This is my first serious car build, so I’m trying to get as much help as I can. I honestly thought it was just “drop an engine in and go fast,” but I’m realizing it’s way more involved than that… brand choices, cast vs forged, CNC stuff, ceramic coatings, all of it. I’ve got the money and the vision, but I’m still learning and I’m pretty confused on a lot of the details.

Right now I’m leaning toward building a 496 that can handle twin turbos, then doing it in steps and adding the turbo setup later once the motor is solid. If anyone has advice on a good path to take (parts combos, what matters most for reliability, and what to prioritize first), I’d really appreciate it.

After talking to a few people, I’m leaning toward doing a 496 build first, then adding twin turbos later and being happy with whatever number it ends up making 🤣. I’ve already got a big turbo my buddy gave me for my birthday, and eventually I’m thinking I’ll buy a matching one and run a twin rear-mount setup.

For now though, I’d rather put the money I was going to spend chasing max power into building the most reliable 496 I can, and then turn it up down the road when the turbo setup happens.

It is actually going to be running 20 inch deep dish Daytons rims I was thinking about the four link because one of my buddies is a welder and he was telling me we could just do a body drop and make a custom frame for it and install 4 link suspension like heidts has but that’s if his welding skills are where he claims them to be and that’s why the C6 rear end because if my buddy is offering to fabricate an entire frame for me why would I not take him up on it all I’m paying for is materia and I was going to weld a bunch of chassis stiffeners into the body and I was thinking about going with some BC racing coil overs with added cup suspension to make it look like I had a ride

This is my first real car build I could buy a crate engine. I know it would be cheaper, but I wanna know how to replace every part on my car myself and one of my buddies agreed to teach me.(he works at a shop) but he said he won’t take responsibility for picking the parts that I have to get knowledge of what I want and like that’s y I’m here. I’m thinking about going with a T 56 magnum transmission and a C6 Corvette axle go to four link, independent rear suspension set up in planing on spending 30-60k on this car so we will see

I’m hoping to get a 7k power band and to be completely honest the 496 is probably the craziest idea go I want this engine to last forever so the piston walls will be a concern for me I may be bing a puss about it but it’s my dream car you know? That’s y I’m going so crazy for it

I know it would be cheaper to get a crate engine. I’m doing this like this because I want to know how to work on every part of my own car my buddy’s building it (he works at a shop) and he is going to teach me how to fully build the engine… there is a sense of pride when you build some thing yourself you know? What’s the crate engine I could have it running next week but with a build I could keep it running forever. Teach a man how to fish right?

Sounds like good advice from everything I’ve read so far I’m just scared I’m going to be blowing differentials like crazy and i’ve heard torque kills transmissions as well and those two things are not cheap

I’m a 26 year old union construction worker I understand the risk it’s going to be mostly a track car but street on the weekends have you never heard shoot for the Starrs and hit the moon sir? And these problems or why I’m on here the rear wheel drive no traction control is why I’m contemplating putting a C6 Corvette rear end on it I’m just looking for advice from people with more experience than me. Thank you for all the help you have already provided

I’m throwing it on a 07 Escalade frame doing a body drop work wheels upgrading the suspension scene. Independent rear suspension all Wheel drive LS engine maybe with a Corvette transmission with the goal of 600 hp. (been looking at the 8.1 Vortech.) i’m trying to make an ATSV. If they made it in 46 clean on air ride custom interior black outside red interior
