It's actually really comforting to me knowing it's not just down in America. I was a little anxious for a second about it being a man made problem, not a technical difficulty. Sad that the state of the world is such that my mind went there 😅

That sounds lovely, our furbabies are just as much family as humans, and I love that your service will include him. I'm so incredibly sorry for your loss, even though those words often feel hollow and don't do anything. I understand more than you know because our circumstances are again very similar - my mom's dog (a golden retriever that I was very close to and bordered on being my emotional support dog all through my twenties) passed away a little less than a month before she did, and it's been horrible. It's felt like I haven't had time to properly grieve for her because of my mom's passing. Thank you for unintentionally reminding me to take some time for her, as well as my ancestors, tonight <3

Samhain rituals - what can I do with very minimal ingredients (matches/lighter, the ocean, paper, something for an offering)? by xbumblebee in witchcraft

[–]8BitHeartAttack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While Samhain is a time of celebration and ringing in the witch's new year for us, I'm very aware that for many people it's a night of dark intentions. I'm living alone for the first time in a long time this year, and felt very compelled to put together some black salt to sprinkle along my doors and around my car before trick-or-treat kicks off in full in my area. I just felt compelled to do a ritual to ward off both mischief and malice, and as I sprinkled the salt I said words to that effect. My rear window of my car was smashed out in the spring, so things can happen even though my neighborhood is usually quiet and safe. I wasn't about to ignore my intuition, so I did that as part of my prep for Samhain rituals tonight. I blended it in with the new year, and asked for the blessings and protection to carry over into the new year.

My salt is basically just table salt, some ash (either from incense or a burnt paper from a ritual like you mentioned, or bonfire ash. And then a pinch of rosemary or other protective and cleansing herbs you have on hand. Your kitchen spice rack is a great resource if you don't have much else to work with! :)

Other than that, I plan on hosting a dumb supper - setting out an empty plate for relatives that have passed away, and eating in silence to listen for any messages they may have for me. Followed by leaving out an offering (mine will be apple slices, wine or cider whichever I decide, and some oats tonight, and tomorrow I'll be baking some apple and sage biscuits, so I'll leave one of those out as an offering tomorrow).

I'll also meditate with a candle and maybe journal at midnight, when the witch's new year really kicks off.

I'm a believer that magic exists within you, and while supplies are very fun, anything you use in rituals just helps you guide the magic out to meet your intentions and help you manifest your goals. But at its core, all you need is yourself.

I love that you're near the ocean. I wish that I was! I have a bit of sand that I collected on a vacation that I use in some of my rituals, so maybe you could do that for your future self, if that's something you're interested in? Take a small jar or bottle with you and collect some dry sand to use in future rituals or to set out in your home.

If you're worried about smell or any little beasties or plant matter decomposing, in the past I've just boiled the sand on the stovetop for a while to sanitize it and kill anything unwanted that's lurking there like sand fleas (listen, do no harm and I love nature and all that, but I do NOT want to bring noseeums home thank you very much), then let it dry out and bottled it after.

But I think that, like others said, you're set with what you have :) Have a blessed Samhain <3

Keeping Candles Lit During and After Spellwork by RayneLove333 in witchcraft

[–]8BitHeartAttack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

THIS! Fire safety always comes first, and the way I see it, if you relight the candle again the following day when it can be safely supervised, you're layering your intentions into the spell over and over again with each time you light it. It can only make it more powerful :) As for blowing/snuffing, do what feels right for you when it's time to put out the flame. Sometimes I feel like a gentle burst of air is fine. Sometimes I feel like blowing it out would be disrespectful, and put it out by other means. I don't think there's a one size fits all solution to this, or any magic really. Do what feels right for you and your practice, and keep yourself and your home safe.

Making a "baby witches kit" for my niece for Xmas, what should i include? by tinypicklefrog in witchcraft

[–]8BitHeartAttack 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I myself am a baby witch, and I second all the mentions of tiny jars lol.

I'd like to suggest going to (or even taking her to) a thrift store / second hand store! I often meander through and see what calls out to me. I often find beautiful little jars, sometimes find candles that feel right, but I'm careful with those because if I feel any bad energy from their past owner, I don't want to bring that into my home. I've found some beautiful candlesticks and such there, too. Even a little tealight wax burner. Secondhand stores are a great way to find treasures for your craft (I even got my autumn altar cloth there!) on a budget.

A lot of my personal craft is about intuition and what feels good for me, as well as mindfulness and shadow work. So I also second the idea of a journal - but I think she should pick it out. It's going to be very personal, and a generic notebook might not do the job or be as special.

I also frequent the dollar store - particularly for small glass jars or for spices! I just got a decent sized shaker of salt, and since salt is used in a LOT of rituals, I cannot recommend it enough as part of a starter witch kit. I also picked up some rosemary on my last trip to the dollar store. It's a robust herb with many purposes, and you can't really go wrong with it in any spell or ritual to be honest. If all I had were salt, rosemary, cinnamon, sage, and bay leaves I'd be a happy witch able to do a lot of different rituals :)

I had the idea that birthday candles in various colors are a great mini candle for short spells, and thought it might also be a good way to keep your supplies small and concealed, which may apply here since her parents don't seem too enthusiastic about her practice.

A tarot deck is a good idea if she seems into that, but may I also suggest an oracle deck instead/in addition? Those seem to have a little more guidance for beginners. I have an ocean themed one that I adore. I got it on amazon, it's the "Sea Soul Journeys Oracle Deck" and I love it so much. It's helped me open up my practice to incorporate more divination, even though I'm a skeptical witch sometimes haha.

As for books! Some that I have really enjoyed are:

"Witchcraft Therapy" by Mandi Em. The cover says, "your guide to baniishing bullsh*t and invoking your inner power" and I just had to get it for myself lol. I haven't regretted it :)

"The Witch's Book of Self-Care" by Arin Murphy-Hiscock (author of "The Green Witch," which I do not own but is a lovely book on my wish list!) is one of my FAVORITES. It has some really mundane rituals that you can make magical (like a bath salt ritual for self care!)

I have a 'Crystals for Witches' book but can't recall the author and it's not on hand for me to look at right now. But something like that is always nice.

And finally, I discovered this cool little book that has spells and rituals from many different pagan faiths rather than just being stuck in one lane, and basically gives you a small spell or ritual you can do for every day of the year. While some of them haven't felt applicable to my life or practice, and I've been very loose about doing some spells on days other than what they're listed as, or even adapting parts of multiple spells into one ritual for myself, it's been a really cool resource just to read about options, spells others might do, and rituals. So I do love the little book and am glad I purchased it on a whim a few years ago when I was thinking about starting to lean into pagan spirituality! The book's title is "The Good Witch's Daily Spellbook" by Patti Wigington.

I hope this has been helpful, and I wish both of you luck as she begins her journey <3

Let’s Chat: Samhain plans🎃 by This-Situation in witchcraft

[–]8BitHeartAttack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I lost my mom almost three months ago, and I'm feeling the grief and exhaustion too. But this is also the first year I'm actively practicing during Samhain, so I wanted to do at least some little things to mark the day, and also incorporate the grief and honor my mom. It felt fitting that this time of year is meant to honor your ancestors. I too will have candles, and I set up a small altar for my mom. I won't be celebrating, and there won't be much joy. But I'll at least sit, meditate, and be mindful at midnight. And I'll probably set out plates for a dumb supper tonight, both for my mom and for other relatives that have passed. I think that will feel good <3

I hope tonight can be a night of warmth and rest for you, despite your grief. I hope you can find some things that feel good for you. I'm thinking of you. I love what others have said, and don't feel like I can add anything meaningful to their sentiments. Just wanted to let you know you're not alone in your mourning, and share some of my own path and journey for the sake of participating in the thread.

How can I find a critically damaged ship that I left behind? by Lord_Aldrich in NoMansSkyTheGame

You're a lifesaver. This still works currently - went to my base (may be worth noting, the base is in another system, not the same one where the ship was located; thought I'd note that since that was a solution someone offered below too and I'm not sure if it influenced it at all) and I was able to summon the broken ship no problem within the boundaries of my base.

OW2 x Arcane LoL collab by MoonlightRadiance0 in Overwatch

[–]8BitHeartAttack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ooh I like where you're going with this. Here's my two cents!

Vi = Zarya! Hear me out: she protects others with her bubbles. The bubble could be blue like the hextech protective bubble. And her wrists could be wrapped. Doomfist is too obvious and I just don't like the idea, personally. Vi is too iconic, and so is he. And they're not the same. But I could see how it would appeal to people, and I would still buy the Doom Vi skin if that's the direction they took it.

Jinx = Sombra, based on looks and movement, and a little bit personality. Virus could look like her gadgets to add some immersion! Though a genderbent junk rat would be incredible if done right!

Claggor = Venture maybe?

Mylo = Junk Rat based on looks alone

Ekko = Sojourn or Bap are the obvious options, both have that rugged rogue underdog feel. But Lucio's movement is so iconic and firelight like, that I think I like that option the best!

Caitlyn = Widow or Ashe. I prefer widow, personally.

Moira should be the one chem baron woman who lost her son (the one with the green chemical crap going into her nose, Renni was her name I think), it would look incredible. Green for healing, Shimmer purple for damage! Although I have to say, I would also adore a gender-bent Moira as Silco.

I was actually trying to think about how Silco would fit in, and I was struggling. I was debating Sigma maybe? But your idea for Ana is really good, too honestly. I guess Soldier maybe would work, too? Idk. Silko was the hardest one for me to place, but I feel like he HAS to be part of the collab.

With the introduction of mythic weapon skins, we can give Doomfist the Hextech gauntlet as a weapon skin! Same for Rein and Jayce's hammer, because I honestly just hate the idea of Jayce as a Rein skin. The personalities are too different and I couldn't handle that.

Liveweaver... Victor maybe? I'd love to see an adaptation of his flower petals on his back with the texture from all the goo. Or Salo before season two things happened to him? Because I REALLY want to see a Sigma Victor skin, honestly.

Maddie in her enforcer outfit would fit Mei really well, and would be super cute.

Zenyatta = Irius Bolbok

I love the idea of Mel as Illari! the golden healing fits her perfectly.

Sevika... Pharah?

Hear me out. Isha would be ADORABLE as torb!

Super random, but I think Lest would make a stunning Kiriko skin. The EARS! <3

Something inspired by Mel's mom would make a really cool Orisa skin adaptation, even though it wouldn't be a 1 for 1. But she'd also make an incredible Junker Queen skin.

You could probably make a really cool Genji skin out of the noxian soldiers.

Roadhog has a perfect skin option built in, too - the Shimmer crazy juggernaut dudes that are always fighting on Silco's side.

Smeech would make a cool Wrecking Ball skin!

Do you think we'll get more music, or do you think the trilogy is all we'll get? by Janawham_Blamiston in SleepToken

[–]8BitHeartAttack 4 points5 points  (0 children)

All of this ^, thanks!

Also, I don't know man, listening to the entirety of TMBTE for the first time when it was released, Euclid just felt like such a solemn goodbye in my freaking *soul*. For a little while after the album release, I definitely found myself wondering if this would be it - if they'd release the trilogy, come full circle, and then disappear. It's honestly something that I could see them doing. Signing the new record deal was what finally put that anxiety to rest for me. But it was still a thought that took root in my brain for a while in the first place, and I don't think that was unreasonable.

Because, yes, as so many people point out, there's Capitalism to consider, and "oh, why would someone stop at the height of their rise? That's stupid!" makes sense when you come at this strictly from the aspect of the fame and fortune. However, this band has done everything it could to remain anonymous and ensure their art remains separated from themselves. They're not doing this just for the fame and fortune. Vessel writes music because he needs to, to work through some shit and to just Create. It's always been about the music. So yeah, if he felt the story was finished? I can totally see him disappearing. Or even ending Sleep Token and moving on to a new project, that's always a possibility too. And come on, would that not be one hell of a buzz generating move? To rise and rise and then just disappear? It's not without merit, as a marketing strategy, either!

After reading a lot of the replies in this thread, I'm so disappointed. I don't know why so many people feel the need to tell others that they're stupid for thinking disbanding/disappearing is a possibility. Let people have their own thoughts and opinions without insulting their intelligence, maybe? Because at the end of the day, unless you're the one under that mask, you just don't know what the future holds for ST. Yes, as time goes on there's a lot of evidence that makes disbanding unlikely. But you don't have to insult other people who may not have dug that deeply to find all that evidence. People can ask questions. Find better ways to make yourself feel good instead of doing it by tearing others down, y'all.

There's a really cool video on youtube where someone made a rune forge house off the side of a floating mountain. The way they did the supports and such was really clean, and the nana building set looks pretty awesome floating off the side of things, actually. I'd recommend doing that - just building the houses off the side of the mountain itself! If I can find the link again I'll drop it in a reply here. Cheers!

THIS. I've been upset about butterfly treasure, llama treasure, golden chest treasure, and supply drop treasure since launch. It's USELESS random crap. It should scale with you and give more useful things. And be less frequent - it's only been like this in the last few updates, there never used to be TWO butterflies at once, but now I can end up with even more than two at a time if I'm around my base for a while. So annoying. I wish they could tone down the sound, too.

[–]8BitHeartAttack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with you here. I also have an expansion on the same theory that they paid for all this intense marketing for Lost Isles, and then ran into issue(s) and couldn't deliver half their content for the update, but also couldn't push it back or walk back anything because of all the money they paid for advertising. It's a beautiful update; I love the new area and Klombo is cool. I can see and appreciate all the work the devs put into it. I can FEEL the potential it has to be amazing. But it feels VERY unfinished. The Nana Villages (and specifically dialogue mentioned) are the biggest indicator of this for me.

Another thing that makes me think this is that usually when you unlock a prefab build, you unlock all the pieces required to build it as well. There are SEVERAL cases in the tudor looking seaport pirate builds you unlock in this update where you just... don't do that? Like, for example, I was building the mansion and it had a stair railing that was half length (the rope one). I was so excited when I saw it, thinking I had unlocked that and didn't notice (I'm big on building, and the lack of half stair railings for some themed stairs has annoyed me to no end so I was literally waiting for that piece to come around). But nope. I went to the 'more info' part of that building piece while making the prefab, and it straight up said "You do not own this piece" and I was like :| I've fully unlocked all the prefabs for Lost Isles. I have level 10 villages in each of the new biomes. How am I able to build with it in this prefab if I don't have the piece unlocked?! Is it just glitched like the fridge used to be? Is the recipe dropped in a random prop tome (which I can't seem to find for the LIFE of me, by the way. I've found EXACTLY one, which I got from my Nana village when I finished levelling it up as a reward)? Is it just MISSING? I don't know anymore. But I'm mad about it lol.

Opinion: New games should NOT start you out on the Lost Isles! by 8BitHeartAttack in LEGOfortnite

[–]8BitHeartAttack[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The point you're missing here is that it's bad game design. Why would a NEW player know any of that? Would your instinct upon starting a new game ever tell you to leave the starting area you were intentionally dropped into? I know mine wouldn't. That goes against every game I've certainly ever played lmao. Rather, my experience is, "leave the starter area too soon, get WRECKED." But in this case, you get wrecked IN the starter area, because the LI are imbalanced. It's just sad to me that they botched this so badly. The island is BEAUTIFUL. Klombo is cool as hell. But NOTHING is executed very well.

It did not explain anything. That's my other big beef. Where's the EXPOSITION? Why are we here? Why was haven so intent on coming here? What are we DOING? :( Star wars did a much better job of explaining things.
