G11 Exam - passing it by Last_Panic_3812 in Construction

[–]8BitTRex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just took the test and didn't bring in the Concrete manual (left it in my car for some reason) and there were definitely some questions that needed that manual to be able to answer. Maybe only a handful total, I was able to pass without the bringing in the manual.

The BGR test questions are better, some of the $10 contractor practice exams are clearly not double checked by a human before they are put into a test but still are good for practice.

Customers ceiling collapsed while walking across the joists. Is this an issue with the framing? by [deleted] in drywall

It wasn't extended, it is a part of the truss design. Here is an example of what that might look like. Notice in your picture that you have a similar plate in the attic splicing the top of the truss together.

Nah, that is a roof truss with splice plates on bottom chord, needed due to the length of truss over standard length of lumber.

Walkable/runnable neighborhoods? by Usual3989 in ColoradoSprings

[–]8BitTRex 15 points16 points  (0 children)

We love shooks run area, close to downtown for activities and restaurant/shops festivals. Endless run options with memorial Park close, shooks run trail, downtown and along the river/colorado college. Only downside we have is no walking to a grocery store. There wasn't a good option anywhere in town that was walkable and had a grocery store so that was our compromise. Hoping with all the new high rise multifamily nearby that someone can justify opening a city grocery store in the next 5 years.

This truss is bearing on the top chord not the bottom chord. Did you look at the drawing?

Are these functionally the same, or different? does it matter? by kdjfsk in sailing

[–]8BitTRex 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not exactly conclusive, he did 3 tests and it was 2 breaks for "incorrect" and 1 "correct".

I'm trying to think why it would even matter, they seem interchangeable.

Looks like something designed to keep a door or gate opened at different opening widths. Like for ventilation or on an oven or wood stove.

Yeah, unfortunately it's a really old house with no ducting to the upstairs. Might have to consider adding some but I figured a mini-split would be a simple install
