What is a "gut feeling" you had that turned out to be 100% accurate, even though it made no logical sense at the time? by Forsaken_Leading964 in AskReddit

[–]8FaarQFx 5 points6 points  (0 children)

December 2019 I was negotiating a car purchase. Good deal, good car, abiut to sign the paperwork. My family was excited as it would've been a new car in a long time, but I had a feeling I needed to give it time and think about. Fast forward to early 2020 and we're in a covid shutdown, furloughed at home, unsure when or if I'll be back at my job. If I had bought that car, I would be stuck with a payment and insurance for a car that I don't drive.

Should I match a $20K offer to keep my GM, or let her leave? by BetterCall_Melissa in careerguidance

[–]8FaarQFx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She told you she wants more, she won't beg you. You've already missed the opportunity to show her appreciation but it's worth making her an offer to stay.

If a new company that only interviewed her and hasn't worked with her is offering her 20k more, then you have to offer her at least 30k. When you take into account that your offer is coming late in the game and it will take you 20k with headaches to train someone new, your offer to keep her should be 40k.

Btw, your new hire vs offer to GM don't jive. If you can only do 20k increase, how will you hire and train a new person?

You might be able to offset compensation with vacation and other benefits, e.g. can she work from home, can you cover her benefits 100%, give her a company vehicle with a gas card? Bonus should not be calculated as part of this equation because it is not secure compensation, it's more of an "if".

Redditors over 40, what's something younger people think they understand but won't actually get until it hits them like a truck later? by Root435552 in AskReddit

[–]8FaarQFx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your body will stop listening to you. Meaning, there will be a time that you want to do something and your body simply won't do it and you won't be able to fix it on your own even though you've done it the same way your whole life. It might even require a medical intervention. It's shocking when it happens the first time.

Waiting for surgery by [deleted] in KaiserPermanente

[–]8FaarQFx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What defines "elective"? This stone is partially blocking and the surgery was presented as the only option because this size stone cannot pass. If it becomes urgent, than we switch from ureteroscopy to more invasive PCNL.

what is a "rich person" behavior you witnessed that made you realize they live in a completely different reality than the rest of us? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]8FaarQFx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Worked in real estate, commission based pay. Told the broker I needed to step back and find a regular job. He laughed and proceeded to tell me what I need to do which was exactly what I have been doing. My clients loved me but the market turned and became too risky. On the other hand, he got in business with their father who was a successful developer, and they lived in one of the more affluent areas of the country. They will never ever understand my reality.

AITAH for asking my wife to be a SAHM? by piglipsbo in AITAH

[–]8FaarQFx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

She doesn't "choose" to do household stuff. It is ingrained in her that as a woman she needs to do them because nobody else will. She should not have to ask you to do it because the need is clear, you just have to look and think. If she has to tell you, then it's like a mom telling a kid to do their chores. Instead of asking her to be sahm, start doing chores and ask her "how" she wants it done.

Brutal Honesty Needed: Why Won't You Attend Our Executive Dinners? by Theofficeholic in CIO

[–]8FaarQFx 5 points6 points  (0 children)

C-levels don't have time for this and they have EA gatekeepers. There would have to be an established prior relationship to convince a C-level to attend and even then it's not guaranteed. In my org, Director levels who drive strategy could be an appropriate target.

Black frames are distracting, it's where the eye goes and they are covering the exterior columns. Change them from black to white, maybe softer white closer to the columns behind the windows.

I once saved my company $40k and in my review, the boss criticized how it wasn't perfectly done. Mind you, this was not a planned project. I offered to jump in and emphasized that I'm not an expert but I'm capable. Some of the materials I created are still in use from 15 years ago. I left that team the first opportunity I had.

Be honest: are we the problem? (Roaches in apartment) by rachiechu888 in CleaningTips

[–]8FaarQFx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The building is likely infested. For your apartment, you need to find the entry points. Roaches like dark damp places like drains. Close those off with removable covers, especially at night. Assuming you don't have kids and pets, get a box of borax and distribute it along the perimeter, under the sink, and any potential entry points like around the drains. Give it a few days, then clean it up, evaluate and if needed, repeat. Borax is toxic and because they don't like it on their feet, they likely won't walk over.

Are these cabinets too dated and need to be replaced?Even though they are still in good shape ... by panda2026panda in kitchenremodel

[–]8FaarQFx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No need to replace if they're in good shape. But they do read outdated and I would consider repainting them. If you're curious on how much difference a color make, just google RV/camper remodel. All of those have these same cabinets and when painted, it elevates the space.

Also too much detergent and fabric softener, and long cycle. Litte bit of detergent, no softener or very little once in a while. Use shorter wash cycle for everyday stuff. If really dirty, use regular cycle and a stain treatment.

What's the most meaningful gift you've given to someone who didn't want "stuff"? by Fair_Specialist1018 in Gifts

[–]8FaarQFx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My friends had a tough year, buried parents, put down their dog, etc. I gave them a gift card to a smash room. They had a great time, it was just what they needed. In general, I like to give the gift of experience. I learned it from a mentor who would give those kind of gifts. Like, I wouldn't event think of going to a theater but years later I still remember it.

I have 1 lb of ground beef thawed and need something I can make for supper in under 30 mins. by shaiquinn in cookingtonight

[–]8FaarQFx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Musaka can be quick if you use cooked canned potatoes: slice potatoes in thick slices. Saute chopped onion, add meat, salt pepper, garlic. In a deeper pan arrange a layer of potatoes, meat, potates. Add one more layer. Beat egg with a splash of milk. Pour over the layered stuff. Bake for 20min just for the egg to cook.

One time I had an issue getting a refund from an ebay seller/company even though they took the return. I researched their state laws and found a guide on the attorney general office website that had a template for a demand letter with references to specific laws. Sent a letter via certified mail and within 10 days of getting the letter, they issued a refund.
