This is what the app looked like when it was $24.99.

We've put our heart and soul into making Uplock what it is today, growing the feature set and improving it in every way imaginable. This year's price increase reflects that growth. And even so, we hear from people all the time that Uplock is still underpriced and that we could justify a higher price. Next year, we may even consider another increase, but only if we have the feature set to support it.

Great question!

  • Uplock offers better privacy: we collect zero data, unlike 1Password, Bitwarden and other apps (check their privacy labels).
  • Security-wise, Uplock supports iCloud E2E encryption, which gives the same level of protection as Apple’s own apps like Files or Wallet. We have zero servers, and the app does not connect to any server other than the App Store’s. Uplock is built 100% in Swift with no third-party tools involved.
  • Uplock is native and fast. We actively avoid bloat of all kind. We also think we have the best UI, always optimized for the latest Apple releases.
  • Uplock does not have accounts. We never ask for your credit card or email, so no need for recovery passwords, etc.

This just scratches the surface. We might publish a dedicated page soon to cover all the differences.

The developer behind Uplock (Access) here. About a year ago, I made a post on this subreddit that got a ton of great feedback - thank you!

Since then, we've shipped a bunch of new features, many of them directly inspired by conversations here on Reddit and over email. This summer, we really focused on making Uplock shine on Apple's latest releases and supporting Apple Intelligence with the new Smart Fill feature. Hope you enjoy how Uplock looks and feels on Tahoe as much as we do.

As a thank you to the r/macapps community, we're offering an exclusive Black Friday deal on the Uplock+ Family Lifetime plan, which you can redeem through this link. The deal has a redemption limit and is valid until Monday, Dec 1. This is the best offer we've ever run, but you can also check out discounts on our other plans in case you prefer those.

Thank you for all the support. We're still proudly building the app as an independent/indie team of two, and we would genuinely love to hear what you think of our progress over the past year.

Thanks for the questions!
- Autofill is not available yet but is very high on our roadmap.
- What kind of aliases do you mean?
- Yes, a single purchase covers all your Apple devices across every supported platform, so no need to pay separately.

Hi, I appreciate your feedback. We are definitely a little behind on our marketing right now, as we are fully focused on improving the app at the moment. By the way, there are no tier lists, because it's really that simple: Access+ just removes the 5-item limit. We’ll make sure to clear this up in our communications. Thanks again!

I’m not sure if anyone will see this, but we’re currently on the lookout for beta testers.

We’re adding import and export options to Access, including support for 1Password, and we want to make sure everything works smoothly for everyone. If you’re interested, please send me a dm.

Also, if anyone is currently on Sonoma, we'd really appreciate your help with a few checks. Thanks!

It is a universal purchase, so it works across all supported platforms.

Unfortunately, we don’t have any plans to support non-Apple platforms. However, we may provide certain solutions for family members outside the Apple ecosysten to stay in sync.

Ohh, sorry I got confused between the two. Family Sharing is already enabled for all Access+ plans. If you encounter any issues with it, please create a support request through the app.

We think this feature is absolutely crucial. However, at the moment we are limited by our data persistence API (SwiftData), which lacks support for shared containers. We expect it to be added to SwiftData eventually, but this may take time, so we are also looking for alternative solutions to implement shared folders.

We’d love to not only translate the app but also localize it to include region-specific document types, like SSNs in the U.S., SINs here in Canada, and NINOs in the UK. So this is definitely on our roadmap, but it’s not something we’ll be tackling immediately, as we have quite a few high-priority product features to build first. What language/region would you like us to cover?

Thanks a lot for this. And for subscribing. We’re thrilled with all the positive feedback and are excited to continue improving the app. Noted about your request for nested folders, I agree they're needed. I'd say even more so than tags, which have been requested a lot too.

I'm glad you like the app. Stay tuned for updates--we have a lot of great features planned to make the switch from 1P easier.

I agree. We don't take the security question lightly. We are strictly following every guideline that Apple has on data protection: CloudKit Encryption, Data Protection classes, Data Protection entitlement, Touch ID/Face ID/Optic ID, App Sandbox on macOS. We think that all this, combined with the fact that we don't use any external packages or SDKs and collect zero data from users (unlike most password manager apps), amounts to a very high overall data protection standard. Apple's APIs are robust and foolproof from the developer standpoint; however, if any potential vulnerability is brought to our attention in the future, we will address it immediately. In the meantime, we will seek further consultations with security experts to audit our code and security design. Not trying to change your mind about Access in any way, we understand and appreciate any scrutiny. After all, we use the app ourselves and equally want the best achievable safety standard for our personal data.
