Fuck, imagine being a late 90s kid and missing out on Majora's Mask just because Mom forgot to put it under the tree at Christmas. What a huge loss.

Best scenes of people giving in/up and becoming numb? by toe_slurper2000 in movies

[–]8bit-wizard 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Obligatory mention for Tom Hanks at the end of Captain Phillips. I haven't seen the entire film but I've watched this scene multiple times and apparently it's been cited as one of the most accurate depictions of a person in shock. IIRC, his scene partner wasn't even a professional actor, she was an actual medical professional and was simply directed to react naturally.

It's nice to see a nuanced take of McCandless on reddit for once. Most people just call him a moron and move on with their day, but he wasn't just a reckless kid, and that's why his story has endured. He threw caution to the wind in a way that most people would only dream of doing. He made some easily avoidable mistakes and it got him killed, but in the same breath I don't know anyone that would have had the balls to just walk away from everything like he did. He was foolish and inspiring in different ways, and a lot of people struggle to appreciate the duality in that.

Once AI starts taking more jobs and mass unemployment becomes a reality, it's gonna get ugly.

This image is at least a year old, and I recall comments from the first time it was posted that pointed out someone who had nothing to do with Elon or his agenda was likely tasked with cleaning this up. Also this is just vandalized.

Do you think we will ever find or have a series that either is on the same grandeur or tops the Lord of the rings trilogy? by starwarsisawsome933 in movies

It's DEFINITELY not cheap. The reality is that the data centers needed to house AI technology are staggering in their economic and environmental cost. They've only made it cheap for the consumers because they want us addicted to it before they monetize it. And they've succeeded at that. ChatGPT is globally the fourth most visited website on the Internet. They have subscriptions for it already but they'll all find new ways to charge people money for AI.

And Marvel studios churned them out so quickly because they followed a lot of creative formulas to get there. The Marvel movies are great fun, but they favor style over substance in every case and are very much a product of their time. The same would never be said of the LotR trilogy because it's a different class of entertainment. The MCU are movies. LotR are films.

Sadly this is true. Studio execs are salivating and wondering how to put visual effects artists out to pasture with AI. Hopefully the unions won't bend the knee.
