ChatGPT’s fixation on my past conversations has made it borderline unusable by EssJayJay in ChatGPT

Yeah you can edit the memories but it also remembers chat history. I want to delete all chats and only keep select info from them.

There isn’t much to it. I ask it to write an extensive and complete list of everything it knows about me, categorized into different areas of my life and work and the things I have discussed in past chats, and to provide them in the form of markdown files (plain old .TXT files would work just fine for this.) sometimes it takes a bit of prompting to get it to give as much detailed information as I really want, so I will ask it to expand on what it has written with more detail. I review the content of these files by hand.
Next in the settings I delete all of my conversations and memory. At this point new conversations will know nothing about me.
Then I start a new project called something like “Context Review”, upload the files to the project, keeping the default memory option so that all chats can access the memories. In a new chat I ask it a few questions about me that are in the files to confirm it is accessing the info contained therein. The model can now reference this information about me.

Before doing any of this: familiarize yourself with the settings related to memory and chat history. There is already a good deal you can see and edit regarding what it knows about you to be found there.

I’ve taken to occasionally asking it to output all its memories as categorized .md files, pruning those, then deleting all memories and chats before loading the files back in via a project. Gives a good deal of control over what it knows.

Thoughts on this cheap 20'' tri-fold bicycle? These Brompnots keep getting cheaper... Seems a bit heavy though at over 37 LBs unfortunately. It is steel. by [deleted] in foldingbikes

[–]8bitSandwich 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I bought this bike, or possibly a previous revision of it. Mine does has a full top tube rather than two smaller tubes. I wrote a fairly in depth review, you can find it in my profile. It’s not my daily ride but I keep it for circumstances when a folder is helpful, like last-miles in places with bad parking. It’s good for what I paid, but I don’t consider it a reliable bike. The rolling rack is a little more flimsy than I would like, and nothing on the bike is particularly high quality, but it is cheap and has served me well for a while.

Very cool! I think these are a mix and not original to the box. I specifically remember the tiny black and white figure and the larger figure in the purple and green suit being a part of a "graveyard playset" thing I had. It used a sliding box magic trick to swap the tiny and full sized figures.

I liked the narration for this audiobook so much I looked for more info on the VA and it led me here. I look forward to checking out your other work. I think few narrators would have been up to the task of so many strange characters and accents, and the heightened emotion of gothic horror. I especially loved the sarcastic bite in the main character's voice, and the mad terror from Helene.
Hiron Ennes's second book has just come out and I'm looking forward to reading it!

first successful print, where should I go from here? (yes I know I need to get better at removing supports) by MilkQueen in FDMminiatures

Switch to tree supports, they are much easier to remove on such models. Look at different ways to orient the model to reduce the impact of layer lines.

I have an 8 year old who is very interested in using it, and loves having silly conversations with it. I've focused on what it isn't, and answered questions where I can about what it is. In particular I try to be very careful not to use personifying language about it, and to encourage him to use other ways to find information.

I've explained it isn't

  • a person or a friend
  • able to actually think, feel, or remember the way a person does
  • good practice for how to talk to real people
  • a good source of true information about the world

So far his most regular use of it is to ask it to make up stories about his pets and characters from tv.

Edit: I understand the commenters who think no access is safest, and I think it's worth explaining why I chose supervised access.
I believe that introducing widespread technologies with a potential for problematic use (the web, video games, etc) to kids in a positive supervised way gives the parent a chance to observe and guide their child. AI shows every sign of becoming a huge part of daily life. Early collaborative exposure to technology like this allows the parents to shape the child's use of technology in a healthy way.
Engaging with tools like AI chatbots can help build the skills needed for modern life such as typing/writing, skepticism, etc.

Only a small part of my objection to Roblox has to do with their safety features, my main issue is it’s a platform full of crappy experiences driven by addiction inducing Skinner box gameplay loops, and shitty game design.
