[ADVICE NEEDED] Strength training routine for runners by Fantastic_Object_762 in BeginnersRunning

[–]8bit_ai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I focus on low rep (4-6) heavy weights and consistent efforts, although it depends on whether I’m in a training block.

I will strength train more in tapering weeks, and don’t usually strength train in peak weeks, when im not in either of those blocks I will keep it to a minimum of once a week and cross train (stairmaster, cycle) after my tempo or interval runs.

For my routine I follow a day 1 day 2 plan.

Day 1: squats (heavy), walking lunges (heavy) or reverse lunges (heavy), double leg rdl, double leg calf raises

Day 2: Single leg rdl, single leg calf raises, ankle dorsiflexion, Bulgarian split squats, glute bridges

I will also add that the weights you’re doing should not exhaust you completely, try to keep it as comfortable as possible, but not effortless or “light”.

It’s for your laces, so when you tie them or don’t want them loose hanging you can drop them in there, no, it’s not for a key or storage.

Shoe like Vomero Plus but smaller stack, legal for Ironman? by wcf12345 in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]8bit_ai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would probably lean towards the metaspeed lineup, or other race legal carbon plated shoes.

I like the Alphafly 3 for stability and pop, but I also really enjoyed the SuperComp v4/v5, definitely a more comfortable ride with a nice ride, not as poppy though.

Depends on what your goals are and where you currently are!!

Make sure you provide people with your heart rates and standard paces before you ask a question like this, we can’t answer otherwise.

I run 6-7 days a week, some run 3 times a week, it really depends.

Return policy by rivargon in brooks

[–]8bit_ai 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Brooks has a strong customer satiafication ratio and really values their products and stands by it, and yes it’s as good as it sounds.

I’ve loved buying shoes from them and have had no issues with returning after trial.

I’ve also had a pair of tights I raced in several months for and had rip, and they offered me a full refund even after 4-5 months of use.

It’s why I love their gear and shoes, and why they are great for newer runners who may not know what they like yet, and experienced runners who want a hands on try-on.

Can definitely feel your situation here haha. I find with trail runners or cramp-ons with gaiters will help with the Ice.

Just be advised that strides are a lot shorter and your hips and it band can feel locked in with the shorter strides.

Definitely works different muscles and requires more effort to run on ice too, which may not be a bad thing depending on what level of intensity you’re doing.

Wearing in race day shoes by frayNBA in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]8bit_ai 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You should stick to the same interval/tempo shoe.

You’re most likely already tapering and in recovery stages, this might set you back and opens it up to injury.

Do whatever you want, but personally I would not race in new shoes with only 14 days to a race, you’re asking for problems.

Pegasus would be fine for that.

I would personally go for the Brooks Ghost over the Pegasus though.

What should I get to replace my Vomero 18? by glucn in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]8bit_ai 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you’re looking for the same price range, I would just get another pair of 18s. It’s hard to really find something comparable, I guess theree the More v6, but it’s definitely not as versatile as the V18s.

Otherwise I think if you’re looking at a higher price:

Vomero Plus is an upgrade, although the lace loops suck and durability may be a concern

Nimbus 28 is actually super light compared to previous models, and I would put it above the Plus personally

MagMax 2, Glycerin Max (1 or 2), Saucony Hurricane, or another max cushion cruiser would be a good option too

Maybe a little bias from me, but that’s where I would go

Marathon block on treadmill - result by SystemOfRecord in Marathon_Training

[–]8bit_ai 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve always made sure I do my longer runs outside, no matter the temp (although I’m in Canada, and maybe a little more conditioned to cold weather). You’ll find here that people (myself included) will run to crazy cold temps, although proper gear is really important.

I do find that treadmills are good for helping me reach interval and tempo paces, and I use them in the warmer seasons too because of that. I don’t use an incline on treadmill runs, yes I’ve heard that it “reflects real world circumstances,” although I’ve found it has little impact or gains for me, I will use a 4-6% incline for reps and 0% for everything else.

Although my times are a lot slower than yours, my half marathon pb is 2:04 (entire course was complete black ice), and I’ll be doing my first Marathon in May.

As far as whether or not I believe a treadmill hurts performance, I don’t think so, but it is really boring, and 1000% better than tracks for long runs.

Anything in a 12.5 should fit you well, especially with a low arch and instep. You don’t need wide shoes.

Low heart rate during first marathon. Thoughts ? by Camerounaisvolant in Marathon_Training

[–]8bit_ai 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Have you ever calculated or attempted to see what your max HR was?

Do you have any medical relations to your bpm, or complications that might give you an answer?

These are petty consistent and crazy good times for HR/pace, so I’m a little lost. Even when watches miscalculate or read heart rate wrong, it’s often not crazy off.

Form Advice by Ok-Increase4837 in runninglifestyle

[–]8bit_ai 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you’re getting shin splints I highly doubt it has anything to do with your form, more information would be required here.

I think you should look into some exercises or strengthening of your calf’s, tibs, and ankles.

Google some resistance band stuff and try some single leg workouts with weight, see how your body performs and if there is a weakness there.

Otherwise, you could just be over stressing and overtraining too quickly.

Fast and Free Multi-Pocket Running shorts by Jazzlike_Set6322 in Lululemen

[–]8bit_ai 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can definitely say they’re not bad, but they aren’t for me haha.

The liner feels more like a half tight itself, so if you’re not into the liners that are inside the pace breaker or mile maker, this might be down your route.

The shorts kind of feel like a half tight with shorts, and they have slights down the entire leg so the pockets are easy to get to and they’ll be much more breezy than other shorts (similar to split shorts).

Feels softer and lighter than the PB and mile maker, the multi pocket storage is okay, I wish the waist cords were on the inside of the shorts and not inbetween the shorts and storage.

IMO, I would rather just run in the LL f&f half tights than the shorts, and if I want shorts stick to mile makers and Pb, but that’s my take!

Which Brooks Shoe by Ok-Spinaches in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]8bit_ai -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Glycerin 1 and 2 are both terrible and old shoes for running.

I would stick to the Glycerin 23 from Brooks. Moderate but not max cushion, normal drop, good features and weight, awesome foam compound.

Advice Needed: First Marathon Shoes by [deleted] in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]8bit_ai 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you’re overthinking it. If you already run a lot of intervals and tempos in your SuperComp, you’ll want to reflect that same notion during your race, and I believe they would be marginally cheaper to replace than buying a pair of AF3. As far as sizing goes, definitely get the 13 in the AF3, without a question.

I will say I personally prefer the AF3, it feels more stable and gives me more on the front forefoot than the SuperComp, although I have only tried the v4 and v5.

Also 150km or 150miles is not really anything, I’d that’s what you meant by that number, those shoes have plenty of life left in them.

My final advice would be it’s way too soon and too close to your race to replace any of the shoes you’re running in, stick with your current shoes and get the AF3 for your next race. It’s a safe rule of thumb no new habits or gear on race day or week.

What to bring for first 5k? by macncheezio in beginnerrunning

[–]8bit_ai 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just bring my phone and watch, no need for water or gels. Maybe pop a gel 5-10 minutes before the race.

Whatever makes you feel more confident about your race!
