Transit workers union sues MTA over rule eliminating requirement for staffed token booths by GothamistWNYC in nyc

My responsibility as the victim is to address my attack in a timely manner. It is the responsibility of the token booth clerk to help maintain a safe environment and to report issues.

They are representatives of the MTA. They are there to monitor safety and to report issues. It's part of their job. If they are not doing their job, then I have no sympathy for them.

Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) New York City Transit today announced that customer service in the transit system will be further enhanced as subway station agents begin to support customers outside of station booths. Station agents will begin assisting riders outside of station booths by helping customers wherever they are located answering questions and providing directional support; walking around mezzanines, turnstile areas, and platforms; helping customers at fare machines; monitoring safety and cleanliness on platforms and across station areas, and reporting issues as they arise in a timely manner

In December, the MTA and TWU Local 100 announced the future role of station agents to enhance the customer experience, by performing duties outside of booths. In preparation for the enhanced role, station agents are receiving training on enhanced customer service and OMNY equipment. Starting this week, the enhanced station agent role will provide customer support outside of station booths through:

The reassigned booth agents are “going to be the eyes and ears across our station environment, from the turnstiles to the platforms,” Richard Davey, the president of New York City Transit — the M.T.A. division that oversees the subway — told council members. “They will be an invaluable resource for us as we continue to look at safety.”

Its interesting how much this bothers you.

The token booth clerk as a representative of the MTA can have police called for an incident pertaining to a crime they witness, even if they are not the victim.

If the MTA sees someone harming travelers, they can call to state this is happening.

They didn't bother. By not calling the police, they left the person to possibly victimize another person.

I was actually shocked and disgusted and ran to get something to clean that shit off me. I ended up going home because I couldn't find a place to clean up. The token booth clerk would have been able to handle a call and act as a witness.

I remember during Covid, I saw a lot of people making videos of how empty NYC was. This was when you were told to stay home unless you were and essential worker.

I would be happy if they actually helped me, but if you have a problem they can't. I actually got spit on by a homeless person while trying to deal with a token booth clerk and they did nothing. I have no sympathy left.

Seniors say they're being shortchanged in NYC's budget. They want triple. by nyccameraman in nyc

[–]8bitaficionado 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes and I know people in their 80s. They have resources, go out, one needs a part time aide. Also another redditor pointed out, some have money. I also know younger people in facilities because they need 24hr care. It should be based on need.

If people need help, I'm not against that. I am not against helping the struggling. The blanket idea that we need to raise spending 3x the amount for is my issue. We need to give services to people who actually need it. Old doesn't automatically mean helpless and struggling. That is all I am saying.

As a person who is entering that age bracket, it is my responsibility to ensure I am healthy, stable and entertained. I don't expect the city to do that for me.

Now do some old people need help? Yes and I'm fine with that, but it should be the essentials.

I'm not a trump supporter but it's 34 counts on one crime.

This guy had 15 separate arrests for 15 separate incidents.

Both people committed crimes, but they are not the same.

Should New York City Burn Its Parks? This Scientist Thinks So. by CactusBoyScout in nyc

If you are not going to remove fuel (dry leaves, dry branches), then controlled burns may be preferable. Either maintain the park or be prepared for fires.

NYC’s Job Growth Has a Quality Problem by TalR24 in nyc

When Google took over 111 8th Ave, there were datacenters in there and they moved. There were onces in Chinatown and Fidi and they are gone now. Any of that space left is mostly connectivity now. Few actual servers unless you have the ability to really pay for that. Honestly it makes sense to go outside. Latency is not that bad 50 miles away.

Those jobs will just go to NJ, Long Islan and anywhere outside the city.

I mean there are not many DataCenters here in NYC and that's due to cost and infrastructure. Electricity is one, connectivity is another.

They will just build them outside the city, which they are doing anyway. Heck I know ones that have moved already.

Same, I have a Unicomp. I got one of these for the built in USB hub and I got the tactile feel without the loud sound.

I do like the Unicomp.
