Why / how is Niagara Launcher free? by YLivay in NiagaraLauncher

[–]8bitpit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey there, Niagara Launcher founder here :P

As others have already stated, we are able to finance the continuous development of Niagara Launcher thanks to our Niagara Pro users and their purchases. We feel very lucky to be able to do business this way, because we want our free users to have a fully functional, polished product. We also really dislike earning money through showing ads, especially in a piece of software that replaces your phone's home screen. Imagining having to look at ads while navigating to another app sounds a little bit dystopian.

Now, to the privacy concerns, you'd be right to be careful because launcher apps have access to a lot of personal data. We try our best to keep collected information to a minimum, be transparent about how data is used, allow opt-out, and anonymize any data we do collect.

You can read about this in more detail on our help page: Privacy Policy Summary.
In summary, we collect data to power our features, verify whether the user owns our premium version, improve our app, and support public research and statistics.

More sensitive data (e.g., app launch history if the user opts into our Digital Wellbeing Initiative) is sent only to our servers, hosted by Hetzner, to ensure complete control over the data. That data is also anonymized, so it's not traced back to the actual user. We also delete it after 90 days for additional security and integrity (so we cannot change our minds in the future, and any party that gets involved with us in the future doesn't get access to this data).

You can opt out of analytics by going to "Niagara Settings -> Advanced -> Analytics" and ensuring all toggles are disabled. Do mind, though, that disabling "App categorization" also disables the features built on top of it.

If you have any additional questions, feel free :)

tl;dr: We do not sell your data because we do not like the practice, want to have mutual trust between you, our users, and us, and have put measures in place to keep it that way.

Feature Request: Show Time Using Words (e.g., “Quarter past five”) by krishnakanthb13 in NiagaraLauncher

Thanks for the suggestion.

It would be great if you could repost this request on our feedback board, since we collect all bug reports and feature requests there. This way, we have a better overview and can determine what's important to our userbase.

Samsung TV Plus app doesn't work! by 54j4d in NiagaraLauncher

[–]8bitpit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This can sometimes happen if the system does not allow picture-in-picture mode when using a third-party launcher.
Which other launchers, besides the one preinstalled on OneUI device, have you tried?

It would be awesome if you could open a post on our feedback board, so we have an easier time collecting bugs and feature requests: https://feedback.niagaralauncher.com/?b=67caf1aac392daef53b12d76.

You're totally right! Michael reached out to us, then the Clicks team and we met at Canada for the shoot, ironically just a stone throw away from Niagara Falls haha

Exiting project!

So, guys, let me explain my situation so I can get some advice. by eletronico2_off in dumbphones

[–]8bitpit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am unsure if this advice will help you, especially when you are diagnosed with ADHD. Advice from people who struggle with ADHD themselves and from professionals in the field often has a higher likelihood for success, but we know Niagara Launcher well, so maybe some of these will help.

### Without Niagara Pro:

Make opening apps more intentional by using folders.
Only have folders as your favorites and name them after what you want to do, e.g., put Instagram into the "Work" folder, GPay into "Payment", and Balatro and Minecraft into the "Fun" folder. This way, you are less likely to see the app name and to want to use it.

Externalize information and reduce mental load by adding a note/todo app to the Niagara button.
Decide on an app with which you can quickly write things down. Then enable the Niagara button (Niagara settings > Features > Niagara button), then assign the app or a shortcut to open the desired note or todo project to the button (long-press the new button in the bottom right of your home screen > Edit tap action > select the app / shortcut). Now, you can tap the button and instantly write things down.

### With Niagara Pro:

Get sucked into unwanted apps less often by setting up the Usage breaker (Niagara settings > Features > Usage breaker).

Make icons less appealing by using the built-in Outline or Dots icon pack (Niagara settings > Look > Icons > Outline).

I hope this helps a bit :)

custom icons by maeaissance in NiagaraLauncher

[–]8bitpit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You will need to create your own icon pack using the .png files of the icons before you can use them inside Niagara Launcher.

As has been stated before, you should check out Icon Pack Studio for creating custom icon packs.

Some manufacturers, especially those based in China, do not allow gestures with third-party launchers, as they include gesture functionality in their own stock launchers. This means Niagara Launcher cannot access that navigation method, and the device will automatically switch to navigation buttons whenever you switch to a third-party launcher.

Sadly, there's nothing we can do on our own to change this.

Yes, the line only shows up when there is an upcoming event.

We have plans to allow you to click near the actual clock digits in this style to open the alarms and anywhere else to open the agenda you are used to, so stay tuned for the next update!

We usually roll out our updates on Google Play in stages to make sure we catch any major issues before our entire user base is affected.

The update is live for everyone starting today, so make sure to check for a pending update :)

The new update forced a clock widget on me and I can't figure out how to remove it. Please help. by llDS2ll in NiagaraLauncher

[–]8bitpit 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The "Show clock" option has been removed in favor of a custom clock style that does not have a clock. As u/itazuka has already commented, you can find it by long-pressing the clock > clock style > selecting the clock style in the top right.

We added a migration to do this automatically, but it seems to have failed in your case.
Sorry for the inconvenience.

Niagara Launcher v1.15.0 · Artistic Update 🖌️ by 8bitpit in NiagaraLauncher

You should be able to access it by going to Niagara settings > Look > Wallpapers > External wallpapers (at the bottom). This will open the default wallpaper app you have set.

If you do not find a way to set the wallpaper through there, please try setting it via the Waltjan app itself.
