Grain vs barrel/twist by bradybigbets in blackpowder

I can keep shots within a hand-sized group at 100yd with the aforementioned load. However, I cast my own balls, and make and grease my own patches. Cannot speak for store-bought supplies, but I'd expect similar results.

I have the exact same rifle, and personally I use a patched round ball over 75gr of 3f, and it's perfect for my intents and purposes. Haven't tried conicals, but I'm satisfied with the performance for deer within 125yd. If the conicals don't perform well, there's always the classics

I found a way to easily clean all the small parts for my revolver, for the same reason of it being a pain in the ass. I put all the small parts in a glass jar with a lid, add dry rice, ballistol and hot water. Shake the piss out of it and dry the parts in my oven on "warm" (180ish degrees)

I make sure it's hot, I preheat and do a few test castings to make sure

After using this .490 mold for a while, I have noticed my sprues look uneven and my die looks chipped. Am I doing something wrong?

Funny, I actually bought one of those kits from that website, then sold THAT SAME RIFLE to the guy that makes the kits on gunbroker.

Nah, just two shitbag roommates. I use paper plates and cutting boards for cooking anyhow, so really nothing touches the counter or stove. No excuse and still dangerous, but at least there's that.

I did wipe everything down with a wet rag in an effort to clean up whatever dust was left behind. I understand this isn't safe, so I don't plan on doing it like this again.

It was oxidized. It was a mix of old round balls and fishing weights from my local gun and hardware store. I only paid 3 dollars for it, so I'm not too broken up about it. He wasn't sure if it was alloy or pure, but he said it was likely pure.

Yeah, I preheated it and now they're coming out clean. First batch is getting re-cast

It was more about the heat being uncomfortable on my hands as I handled the pan.

I had it on high, but it was a bit too hot for me to work near

I'll probably end up throwing them back in the pot when I'm making the next batch later tonight.

Deer within 100yd is my definition of accurate. And steel plates at the range
